Useless in W98se despite claims otherwise.

When launching IC 3.0 and wishing to create gallery, the only oprion offered was for .icg files (Image Comparer Gallery files). Now, what good is that, if one has not been able to create any gallery to begin with ?

Next, I used this GAOTD image Comparer 3.o to check for updates. It did; successfully. It downloaded updated 3.1 which displayed "W98 compatibilty fixed". YAY !And that does work for W98se with one major problem. It is trial. The previous GAOTD activation key won't work.

Now, I understand that these GAOTD products cannot update or offer support. That's fine, but at least the thing should work. Inasmuch as it doesn't as there's a bug in the release -until one does update - what the heck good is it ?

I rate it *ZERO*. Useless.... Bah!

"IM0062.jpg to Clear Lake.jpg"
i prefer:
IM0062.jpg to ClearLake0062.jpg. Occas that same number 0062 shows in another filename, but it's easy to spot those files as different.

to all: try doublekiller. fw. fast. compare includes crc ( a kind of checksum). a few conveniences (when changing directories) and inconveniences (would be nice to somehow view, even including the win context/shell menu in DK's context menu would be good)
I found my self opening both folders to rename and slightly reorganize my folders. so it's a reorg tool for me.

i haven't used i much, but after some checking, it seemed to make no errors. however DK is a pure dupe finder; DK is not trying the semi-utopian "find me the best version of similar images" task.

I don't get how anyone can find DupDetector to be better than Image Comparer except maybe for ease of use. Especially if DupDetector requires the pictures to be in the same folder - that just seems meaningless. Some of the other tips might be worth checking out, but for my use Image Comparer does the job just fine.

Steve (#35) look on softpedia for imagediff, it shows the differences added by filters, etc. freeware.

Not exactly freeware, but not too spendy if one is broke, either- anyone try PictureRelate? worth a shote, eh?

<a href="http://www.walthelm.net/picture-relate/index.php" title="PictureRelate" rel="nofollow">

personally what I need the most is to find different pixel sizes of the same image, so this may work fine. take a while lining up candidates....

I installed this application and it said it was activated but when it
started to run it put up an error screen saying thet the Ic3.exe has
encountered a problem and must exit. Anyone have a simular problem or a fix. loaded it twice and got the same issue.

I downloaded this program and ran it against all of my vacation pictures from a cruise I took two years ago. Then I went through to see how good a job it did. There were some cases where it was dead on. For instance, two very similar pictures of the same ship showed up with 95 percent accuracy. But more often, it would say that there were pictures that matched that were nowhere near the same thing. For instance, one picture I have of the ship we were on had three matches with 95 percent or greater. All three of these were pictures of cliffs and other rock formations. Definitely not even close to the ship.

So while it did work pretty well in some cases, it totally missed the boat (haha, couldn't resist) in many other cases. Interesting idea though.

if you edit pics a lot i guess there is a 0.000002% chance of being a little bit useful, but its probably better to look at a picture with yoru eye than having a computer program compare each pixel or set of pixels that make up a picture. I guess someone was just trying out a new algorithm or something, but not worth the cost in my opinion.

Hi,

Thanks for those who told about Dup Detector. I know we 'suppose' to try today giveaway and give comments. But after reading all the comments,(which not too 'attracting') I don't think I want to 'risk' it cos my pc crash before (I don't mean Image Comparer will cause this. sry) So need a handy tool to help.
Thanks GOTD as I won't get to 'know' so many of other valuable alternatives from the readers, if I didn't know about your site. :) God bless you guys. Have a wonderful day.
