@94 Andrew,
thanks for the info, I will give ceedo a try. I didnt succeed in installing VOS - it would not accept the serial number? Hope it gets offered again some time.

Win 98 is quite an old OS, I just do not know if Ceedo does work in it. As I said, this software, is on an entirely different category from what VMware, or VirtualBox is. It is something that you can install on a USB drive, and when inserted on another computer, presents itself with a desktop launchpad where you can use it normally as a computer with all the softwares which you have installed within it. If you will go to www.ceedo.com, and download a trial of Ceedo Personal, with a free 30 day trial, you will understand fully what this is trying to accomplish. But as I said, this giveaway seems not to be working as expected. For your virtualization need, I will advise you try Ceedo, and see if it suits your need. I find it very useful, can almost install anything into my Ceedo USB, and make almost any application portable, at a very affordable price, with very good support, and generous licensing. I believe that many here are still not so very clear on what this software is, because even their website is not so clear on what it does and how it does it. If you go to www.ceedo.com, and read or better download their free 30 day full version trial, you will understand what this really is.

I have Sandoboxie, indeed a very good sandboxing software, but this is an entirely different software from the one being offered here.

@66 WTF
You are right!
Unfortunately it is a long while that (mainly Internet marketers) many started using that expression in the sense that you can put your wallet away because you do not need it for the simple (promotional) reason that they are giving you for free something that normally you should pay for...
This of course creates a confusion about the original meaning of an idiomatic expression and its part of the "evolution" (distortion?) of any language in any country...
Conclusion?
We all, no matter the language, should pay attention to the way we use words, idiomatic expressions, quotes, proverbs paying attention to what we really intend to say/mean!

Hi Everyone, Well, I was a bit down when I found out That Hopedot VOS Security would not run on the WIN 7 64bit version? So I can't give it a thumbs up or down in all fairness as I could not use it or test it? So I'll just stay neutral on this one! (o;
I was kind of hoping it would work as a possible alternative to my old standby Returnil System Safe 2011 Version 3.2 is free or if you pay for the full version it has a few more nice things to play with but you can Download it from:

http://www.returnilvirtualsystem.com/returnil-system-safe?

I have used it for years and it does get a new version now and then. They have new deals all the time but right now you can buy the pro version, Returnil System Safe Pro 2011 (3 PCs) Buy 1 get 2 free For $39.95, for 1 year or go up to 3 years for 89.90! and they have versions for business too all at what I feel are fare prices for what you get. There site support ether by e-mail or phone is very good and easy to work with, or you can chat with tech support while your looking at there site. Might want to check them out for a 64 bit alternative?
The Free version supports the full virtual disk and the virus scanner and protection works very good as well, They have a very nice full Restore and File Recovery the only one that don't work on the FREE version is the Real-Time Restore Analysis, So most everything works and its very fast and smooth operation. So if it seems like something you might want to use or try just check out there WEB site. there is a lot of information there and the site is very professional.
Well that's it for me, Neutral Vote on GOTD, sorry guys I love just about everything you offer but If I can't test it myself I can't give a true or accurate feedback of the company or the way it works, I guess that could be a no go on the fact the test version does not work on 64 bit OS systems, That's too bad.. Have a great day, Take care. Rick D..

After reading all the above I have decided NOT to install this GAOTD. Ceedo seems to be the same type of program without the install headaches and security trust questions. It cost $39.00 and if I really had a need for this type of program I would be willing to pay for the capability--IF I knew it could be trusted and had a real solid track record. Google Ceedo and HOPEdot VOS. Read "legit" reviews, then you decide for yourself.

Incidentally, in the middle of the initial setup screen (if you bothered to go that far) you will see: "Welcome to visit our website: http://www.Hopedot.com."

I won't go into the difference that the www makes; I'll leave that to someone else who can explain it in fewer words than I can, or you can Google it.

You may find this as interesting as I did!

I started reading through their license agreement and in section "2. LICENSE AND RESTRICTIONS:" I found the following: "No Modifications. You will not undertake, cause, permit or authorize the modification, creation of derivative works, translation, reverse engineering, decompiling, disassembling or hacking of the Skype Software or any part thereof."

Is this what I think it is, mainly that they swiped the license agreement from a Skype install? This gives me pause....

People, you are playing with fire downloading virtual drivers form a Chinese company.
Their back door access to your computer is built in into the software and it is very difficult to detect while using it.
Virus scanners are useless and when you will be hijacked they will cover their traces by deleting you MBR and or disable your operating system, which will lead for you to install fresh OS after your private data has been stolen, all the while you will be thinking that you hard drive failed beyond recovery.

Jon3, what I try to do is simple:
Look at the homepage myself and tell other people what I see on my PC.
I dont defend the Chinese or anybody else ! I try to be very serious about my observations when it comes to software and hardware. I like to share my tests and results with other people and hope that they will share their tests with me, so we all can get something usefull of the conversation.

In my review there is missing the words that express negative feelings because I hope that people can see what I am trying to observe... the software, the homepage, the developer and the overall impression of that specific give away offer !

Installed fine but when starting VOS (splash says Loading user config...):

----------------------------------------------------
Hopedot VOS Startup Error!

Hopedot VOS failed to create a virtual environment.
VOSErrCode:0x9, WinErrCode:0×534
----------------------------------------------------

So, i went to their site/Advanced Technical FAQ section, where the Q/A says:
5. Error: Hopedot VOS failed to create a virtual environment
They mention to delete VOScore.sys but there isn't one and never was, they mention to disable antivirus, i never will do that (i already scanned the VOS folder and files for any hits but everything was clean so no need to disable the protection), UAC control was already disabled, it was installed to the root of the hard disk, it had access thru firewall (but it doesn't matter if it has or not, since it works online and offline), i already restarted Windows earlier, i fulfilled nearly every single requirement what they say to get around with the problem but it simply doesn't work on my 7 Ultimate (SP1) x86 and i surely declined to send an error report about it.

Uninstalled! -> Critical Windows Error. Windows will restart in less than 1 minute, please save your work.
Well, it does exactly so without logging off or rebooting the regular way, it was an sudden restart.
After reboot, i checked for any further errors, there wasn't any, so i might have had a good portion of luck today, huh?

Very interesting is, that the hosts file of the VOS contains 2 entries of prayaya, 3 from hopedot.

I let it uninstalled for the time being, until someone comes up with an working solution (since there are many other with the same error). Otherwise, i have to delete the whole thing and don't bother installing it anymore because i wouldn't be able to use it or even test it out..

Anyway, thanks for the offer today.

Hopedot requires, when installing, that you set a maximum partition size (the minimum is 100 mb)

I set mine too small, near the minimum, and now I can't import many programs because of this limit.

So, be sure you set a large partition size.

Does any SD'er who used this terrific piece of software know of a way to override the initial partition size that one sets?

thanking you in advance, Matt

Whilst the market is waking up to flood in more virtualization technologies, in my not so humble opinion, I do believe they are trying to fight fire with fire.

What’s really needed is not more or less or a little more little VM stuff.
What we need is better host operating systems.
That’s key.

Linux is to date the better operating system candidate, but too restricted due to licensing issues and therefore Windows is winning out as home PC.

Prognosis, I wanna live to see the big change for a new operating system that doesn’t need “3rd party add-ons” to make it “more secure” and PC life “easier”.

The selling phrase “our product enables you to take your settings with you” doesn’t cut it. There is already a thing called Synchronizing work-loads and it works just fine, or maybe you never were bothered investigating.

good day or evening all

cheers

I installed Hopedot VOS to an old slow USB thumb drive, giving it 1.5g to work with. I installed Firefox 16 to it. I'm writing this comment using Hopedot VOS and Firefox. It's a little slow because of the old thumb drive I'm using but useable. I like the idea that once it's running nothing is being written to my PC hard drive and the data on the thumb drive is secure. Once I add some more software to it I'll have a thumb drive that I can take to any Windows based PC and run my configuration without effecting the PC I'm plugged into. It's a keeper for me.

Windows 7 32 bits. I thought it had use for me, but neither this programme nor Prayaya wok under W7. I installed both progrmmes on my hard disk and did not work, on a memory stick and I got the very same error code all the time: "Hopedot VOS failed to crete a virtual environment VOSEErrCode=x9, WinErrCode0x534. Select yes to let us collect host environment information to better solve your problem"
The worst thing is that I sent my information to this publisher but I do not know how to sort it out or if they'll fix it. I am concerned now whether my information will be used or not as the other comments state.

Well, as far as I am concerned, boot on linux, insert a usb stick and type just one line in command mode:
dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sdb2 bs=4096 conv=notrunc,noerror

sda_x_ being the source, sdb_x_ (it may vary, depending on your system) being the destination.

I think people forget that the planet has time zones, which may explain why, at "just after Midnight", there may be a dozen or so votes.

Bear in mind that votes of this nature are purely subjective. If the software title looks like something you can use, then don't look at the votes and try the software out yourself.

The above mentioned alternative program at :http://en.prayaya.com/index.html has malware. My on-board AV (BitDefender) could not scan the downloaded program file because it is pass-worded. Many AV's cannot scan a pass-worded file.

Uploading it to virustotal.com, reveals "Trojan.Sckomoroh.7" by DRWeb.

Uploading it to VirSCAN.org, reveals "PUA.Win32.Packer.Msvcpp" virus by Clam AV.

Thanks to Andrew's post, got some understanding of what this software does.

The software developer does not hide that they are a PRC company based in GuangZhou. Thought only Romney is desperately misusing China-bashing to save his sinking ship. Here too?

I don't think I will ever have occasion to need to use such software. No matter how good it is.

If you use this software and plug your USB with it into a Host Computer, would you not be violating the Host Computer company's security policy?

To #32 Pit Tuch,

Most of Chinese software comes with hidden or encrypted files as a bundle. Some are zipped too. They never tell you exactly what else is installed besides the main program.
You'll be better of if you don't proceed further. I just wonder if your computer has been already hijacked. Never trust Chinese software and keep vigilance all the time.

I have read all comments available from no. 1-11 before this comment !
----------

(#3 - their website is very poorly programmed - product page does not even open)

My review:
1. Nice looking homepage at first sight, but one title is using 2 lines, which covers over some of the text details written. The page itself use a long time to appear on my PC, despite that I have a fast connection 20/2 M-bit. (16.4/1.6 M-bit in test).

2. I did navigate around all pages without any trouble and could see all product details.
----------

(#4 #6 #8 - It does not support 64-bit OS)

My review:
On the download page the developer write that VOS (Standard Edition) & VOS (Security Edition) does not support 64-bit OS.

Bonus information: There is no download link for the VOS (Professional Edition) and no pay link either. So you can only buy and download the VOS Standard & Security Editions !
----------

(#9 - still remember Hank’s comment (n.21) yesterday, regarding Chinese software...)

(#11 - WOT (Web Of Trust) evaluation : very bad, spammer.)

My review:
There seems to be a lot of negative "feelings" against Chinese products for the time being, so maybe there should be a more concrete demand for true proves (your own well tested statements)...

What I am saying is that, you are building your stories on other peoples negative feelings and point that feeling against a whole country ! It is not the whole country that is involved in espionage... if thats the case here...

I dont disagree that some software developers have a weird way to launch their products... and that I also warn other people about my discovery, but I dont state it against a whole country...

No 64-bit support kills it for me. Can't remember the last time I saw a 32-bit OS pc for sale at any of the local big box stores. And, Fubar, you're dead on,and it's something that's going to come back and bite us in the future. Privacy is becoming an increasingly alien concept, and it's gonna cost us more than we can imagine.

#1 "Only 3 minutes into the giveaway and already 6 positive votes....". Perhaps they have used it in the past did not have to download and install today.

#9 If you have a fear of Chinese software you should add to the list software from Russia, US and most other countries that have governments, businesses, and criminals that want information about you.

#11. The results on Web Of Trust can be very misleading. I do additional research before I take anything on Web Of Trust seriously.

The Hopedot VOS website has useful How-tos and Blog articles in their Resource section. Hopedot VOS sounds like a useful piece of software. The idea of having my system portable on a USB drive is appealing to me. It will take some time to test it so I can't comment now but when I complete an evaluation I will post my opinion of the software.

NR 1, about as fast as 60+ can give a thumbs down for an offer that's been online for few minutes (see past offers).

As far as this software goes. I like this "Using Hopedot VOS, you can take your familiar PC environment with applications, private data, even desktop preference to any PC anywhere without compromising the data security policy". Well you may not COMPROMISE security but you will violate no less than a half dozen other company policies that could get you shown the door. Unless of course you work for the IT department.

Free "LinuxLive USB Creator" can install one of many Linux distributions to a USB flash drive, enabling you to use it like a "normal" OS (just insert the pendrive into your computer and boot from it). It can even virtualize the portable OS directly in Windows.

I would like to see a comparison of this to some other live disc Operating Systems such as Ubuntu, which is also somewhat "windows-like". I get the idea that today's software may be aimed at people who have use of a workstation on a network where, because of restrictive policies, they can't run some applications they need to, but they do have access there to a drive that they can use to load this OS and whatever apps they need that they prepared at home. Correct me if I am wrong. Sounds like just the ticket for some cracker who wants to exploit a network or otherwise evade corporate security policies. If I were to use this software, is there any good help and support available either from the vendor or some community forums?

#9 proclaims "The Chinese" as if it were some sort of monolith and all those who happen to be from China reporting to some sort of mother ship; all intent on stealing #9's data.

That's not an assessment of a product, that's racism. And paranoia. If there's a backdoor to this program, where is it? What does this program do which suggests this?

I'm not defending this company nor this product, because I don't know it. Just as #9 knows nothing about it except for its country of origin. The difference is that I am not a paranoid racist and I hope that you are not, either.

So will I be using this? No, Virtual Box works just fine for me

I usually try programs and not just take advise of others on this page. Today is an exception, if there is no 64 support, why bother downloading this software. I'll pass. BUT I still did NOT give it a thumbs down as it may be a great program, if your running something other than a 64 bot operating system.

Well I disregarded all of these security warnings that other people posted and went ahead and installed it.

They say that it is an encrypted session or whatever and I was forced to make a password for it. It gave me the option to install onto a USB drive so I did that as well. After installing, I made an account to log onto the VOS. Booting up, I saw my windows 7 shell being taken and my desktop got cleaned of everything. (The VOS doing its work) Programs were cleaned too. The environment was a little slow because it was like two OS's running at the same time. Exiting was fast, and all my settings were given back and whatever I did in the VOS was saved in there.

Like someone else mentioned, This is very similiar to Prayaya (Given away here long time ago)

My personal rating: 3.5/5

One of my dozen plus PCs are 64 bit. The majority of computers in use in the world are not.
