Bitdefender said there was a problem. So I decided to disable my AV program and installed this software. After working for some time with it there was a strange message coming from WINDOWS advising me to save and finish my work because of HDD problems, a message I had never received before. Because of so many posts here about this new GOTD offer, I really think there is something dangerous for the system's stability.

Very good product

I don't understand why there are so many dislikes. I haven't found an equivalent/better freeware application. It has a simple, and intuitive UI that doesn't look like it's from the 90's. Useful tools such as speed inc/dec, reduction of frames, and cropping. It's also very fast and smooth (not choppy).

Cannot install-having problems that others have reported-this seems to be happening more frequently. Unfortunate-looks very promising and comes from a fine outfit.

Thx anyways

another comment. here is the animated gif that i made:

http://i.imgur.com/YBdflAN.gif

it was a big file, and editing down was so very easy, i made the length and width smaller!!

and once again..this did not come from my own video, i found it on facebook, and cut out a fraction of the video to make this animated gif, just for practice, but it came out so good, i wanted to share what a 'beginner' can do.

this is definitely a keeper program.

one more comment, i am really really excited. i found another random video on facebook and took a random clip of it into an animated gif. it turned out seamlessly. i.e., a horse is in a kid's pool, kicking at the water, then he sits in the water and then stands up and continues kicking. totally and completely by luck it is 'seamless' in that there is never any 'jerk' like there are with so many animated gifs when it finishes the rotation and starts over. i'm going to try again, using one of my own videos and see if i can make it into an animated gif.

in the ancient long ago, i could click on my animated gifs and they would 'work'. perhaps i have to check my computer and 'associate' the file with something. now i can't see the completed project by just clicking it, in my case i opened it as an html file.

as an addendum to my comment: wow, this is really fun. i just went to facebook, saw a random video, and made a little animated gif from it. i easily (extremely easily) deleted the first frame, so, editing was EASY. obviously, i don't have the rights to that particular video, but it was a test. this was really fun, and extremely easy to do.

downloaded and installed easily. registered easily (reading directions). i was aware i might have problems since there seemed to be a lot of issues with this in the comments, but no, very, very, easy.

i have made a lot of animated gifs in the long ago past but this program looked and worked differently. it wasn't necessarily intuitive, because it didn't look anything like what i'm used to.

i wanted to make a little gif from a piece of a .mov file, no luck. maybe it is possible, i have to play around yet.

i did see the tutorial on the website before i downloaded the program. it looked interesting, i need to go back and watch that again to see if i can do what they did. that did seem to come from a video, but i don't know what file format.

i did add three images to make an animated gif. it didn't seem that intuitive, and yet, boom, it did make a little gif. not a good one since i just threw something in to test it.

it seems nicely organized in terms of finding the files i wanted.

i do think this has possibilities and i'm excited to play around some more. i do recommend it for those who want to 'play' at making some gif animations.

I have to say that i love this program. it *is* intuitive once i got going. i was able to make an animated gif from my .mov file, it is just that i didn't do it right at first. very very easy once i understood.

Nice software. The positive comments do not match the low voting. I guess its because there is no indication on web pages like mine showing thumbs up or thumbs down. Regrettably, even I made mistake of clicking thumbs down instead of thumbs up. How I wish GOTD can make it possible to reverse mistakes like this! Thanks to the maker of the software and GOTD anyway.

I am having the same installation failure as described, yet no one program claims doing the dastardly deed. I have triede 2 downloads from the site 12 hrs apart, so it seems there has been no correction of any kind. I would LOVE to try this, and even Facebook posted my dream of making animated avatars with this program. I sure hope that somebody comes up with a cure for this soon!!!! Thanks, GOTD and Bandisoft, for all your hard work getting this to us. I truly appreciate it!

Can install. But FAILED to run.

Error message.
[ This program is not responding ]

Uninstalled. No great loss.

Please note that after Revo Uninstall and the usual registry clean, using RegSeeker discovers there are 9 more registry entries many of which are remote access parameters and "pending file rename" to pih.dll

I tried to install this on my Window7 machine, but it said that the program failed! I temporarily disabled Bit Defender and unzipped the program before installing, but still no joy!

Reply   |   Comment by Charles Brotman  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

@Charles Brotman,

Is it a "Failed to Connect. Please try again later." popup error message? Or other failure?

If it's the 1st one, that also happened to me the first time i downloaded the zip file. Try to re-download the zip file and give it another try.

And honestly, there should be no reason to have to disable any AV, I believe most AV developer's have updated their definitions to exempt GOTD's Setup.exe and Setup.gcd.

Out of the hundreds of software and games that i have downloaded via GOTD, I have only come across 2 incidents, both of which were proven to be false positives by GOTD and ESET.

Running Windows 7 SP1 64-bit.

I chose to block TouchURL.exe (located C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\AppData\Local\Temp) via firewall because i also did not know what it was for. But it does not have any affect the activation process.

According to Park via Bandisoft's bandizip forum "touchurl.exe reports install count of bandizip to our server. Of course, It does not send any personal information."

Same as #2 and more..Bitdefender stopped it on my HP-Desk 8.1, Symantec blocked it on a second computer HP Laptop 7.xx, McAfee blocked on a third computer Asus Laptop 7.xx...I keep them around for testing things just like this....Although I really like the programs presentation and would love to give it a try because the company also has an additional program that I would be interested in purchasing after checking out their Website (from which there were no issues on over 10 pages of their website...it appears to be clean as can be), it really has some inherent issues with some very small virus additions to programming that is not user friendly and potentially dangerous. disabling antivirus and trojans, may work for some but be sure to isolate while testing. Which is wasn't this way. Bummer!

Before download, the annoying Facebook page appears. Though just cancelling it works and you get the program, it's nevertheless not a good idea, as it may put off many users. I'd advise GAoD to reconsider it.

Installed on my XP. During activation, it wanted to communicate repeatedly with base and though this is normal, the number of connections seemed high. Then, the first notification that it was successfully activated crashed. The program seemed activated nevertheless, as it subsequently informed me. It also wanted to install Software Informer, but I don't know if that's due to the program or GAoD. But at least it didn't annoyingly ask for name and email.

The program opened OK. As first task, I tried to Import a webm video, hoping to convert it to GIF and then edit it. But though the webm format is claimed as supported, it wouldn't have it. Either the program doesn't do what I expected or I have to spend the rest of the day/month/year trying to figure out how to import a video. In either case it's not much use to me.

Uninstalled, but if I'm informed of something I did wrong, I'd be prepared to give it another try.

For now, I haven't much use of this program. But I was enticed by the screenshots, so installed it.

Downloading this GOTD opens Facebook. Once, I had to create a fake FB account in order to get a software. Here, no log in required. But I'm afraid my IP and whatever FB got will be there for a long time... and sold... sigh. I've been putting off running Tails for every single Internet request, perhaps it's time to move on.

The setup dialog, contrary to standard wizards, shows all in one window (location of program, shortcuts, license...). It saves clicks, you don't have to go through several steps. Well done.

I found an usage: recording my typing. Guess what? You can select a scrollable window! By this, I mean a window object, a TextCtrl or a StyledTextCtrl (a Scintilla text editor widget) or whatever, not just a window application. Much easier than selecting a rectangle. Unfortunately, if you move the window, the rectangle does not follow. This dampened my enthusiasm quite a bit.

Overall, Bendisoft did a very good job with the interface. They deserve a palm, especially when compared to too many poor designed other GOTD.

The only serious drawback: you have to go to preferences to set up the duration of the recording. Unfortunately, the recording relies on this setting ("maximum recording time"), even though there is a stop recording button. It makes more sense to put it on the recording window, and not in preferences (2 clicks), along with a checkbox for accepting unlimited/unknown length.

There is room for improvements:

- Importing images has its weaknesses. All images must have the same size, which depends on the first one; the others are resized. Cannot add any .jpg/.png/... images after initial import, only animated images.

- When recording, the window goes up beyond the top of screen. Is it a bug? There are ways to hide this kind of panel (see virtualbox, teamviewer...).

Also, I would have preferred a local help file.

Last remark: the webm license (www.webmproject.org/license/) is missing.

Of course, I keep this GOTD. Thanks Bendisoft.

Yesterday, I got an amazing -63 votes for what was a mere mockery about funny software requirements.
- "CPU: 1GB or higher" -> Do CPU have giga bytes? No.
- "Hard Disk: 1GB or higher" -> What kind of software require that much disk space?
In any case, "higher" should be "more". Imprecision in language allows welcomed (mis)interpretations when intentional, incomprehension at best otherwise.

I'd like to thank Bubba for kindly providing pieces of advices I hope they have helped somebody else ---not me, because in mockeries, you have the right (and the obligation) to exaggerate.

NOTE: Nothing personal is intended -- Please look at the line which appears at the bottom of each GAOTD comments page: "Please comment only on the software here..." This could be why some comments receive negative replies; they're not constrained to comments on the current software give-away.

As was pointed out in the forum, right click the download button & select save link as [or whatever's appropriate for your browser]. Other possibilities of course are the Tor Browser [& similar] or a VPN or Proxy.

.
Just FWIW, I got a chuckle out the specs & your comment pointing them out, but maybe for a different reason... Assuming they meant a CPU running @ 1 GHz, I was trying to think of how old the PC would have to be to run slower than that, & what version of Windows would they have to be running? The hilarity *to me* wasn't the thought of running hardware like that, but the idea that someone running that setup would think it could run that GOTD.

At any rate, from me at least the mockery was appreciated. And I guess like all good comedy, funniest to more people unexplained. :)

Bitdefender stopped the installation process, citing that setup.exe is infected with Gen:Variant.Symmi.34317

It may be a false positive of course but it will be interesting to see what other AC products flag up.

Reply   |   Comment by PhilS  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+30)

Same here. Odd thing is if you do an on demand scan of the setup file or the .gcd it shows clean. VirusTotal 0/55 score, so pretty sure false positive. The program being installed is in the .gcd so it looks like maybe BitDefender's on access scan doesn't like something with Giveawayoftheday's wrapper? The on access scan triggers as soon as the setup.exe gets extracted to the temp directory.

Weird kaspersky flagged it as well and stopped the installation process too i have never had that happen with an application from GOTD has to be a false positive

From reading the documentation, the program apparently uses RAM to store the recorded frames as opposed to saving them to the hard drive during the recording session. This would allow a smoother capture while creating less lag for the native application being recorded (as in capturing animated screenshots from a game).
The settings let you specify the size of the RAM area to be used ("RAMdisk") to avoid out-of-memory conditions with longer recordings.
The explanation you highlighted in bold could have been written better, agreed, but English is obviously not the first language of the company or the people creating the text.
