#157, I don't believe what Rixane told you. Unless they temporarily change the settings and then change them back, they leave my power settings set to turn off the monitor. They don't create a new power scheme, they use and rename whatever one you're using. Even if you leave a Rixane Power Scheme and re-create whatever one it wiped out, the next time that you run the screensaver it will rename your power scheme again (but for whatever reason, you'll only have one Rixane Power Scheme). I would definitely characterize this as malware.

I just got a reply back from Rixane about the 'Rixane Power Scheme' issue which people have mentioned (myself included).
Apparently the screensaver edits the power scheme in order to set it so that the monitor doesn't turn off. Presumably this is so you can enjoy the screensaver without worrying about the monitor turning off and spoiling your fun. In order to keep that change to the settings, they say they have to name the scheme, and since they can't determine what name the user had before, they just set the new scheme's name to 'Rixane Power Scheme'.
Oh, and unless your system settings are locked down by your administrator, you should be able to easily set your power management settings back to normal, like I did with mine. If having the RPS entry there really bugs you, there should be a delete button you can use to get rid of it.

damn it. I am really appreciate GOTD but you have no right to keep deleting my quote since I am not using any kinds of swearing. You should be thx for that.

This company is changing our computer power system without mentioning any w0rd. How about that comment number 155?

Favour? Do you think what they are doing is favor? changing our system without any kind of notice nor our permission?

Do you even read replies?

I don't need to waste my time explaining all over again from the beginning. You go ahead believe what you want to believe or read replies and you will find out what this company really did to us.

hit : check your power settings. You will notice something. I am not sure if it is true but somewhere from those replies, you will find that this stupid screensaver changed our computer system's setting and it's destroying our computer slowly.

Favor ah?

Like many sites or stores offering 'free' stuff, that should in no way mean they should offer the same useless thing over and over. Comments like "please no more of this" should be taken into account.

Other comment like #42 are getting on MY nerves.
It is not because it is for free you cannot complain. If you want to do something different from others, and get som ad-money, you should get people to you and not drive them away. If a person dislikes something, they will walk away and not even look at other links or items.

So, as I am appreciating GOTD's work, I think at the same time they should get a lot more selective ASAP!

Uhh...No #53, I think #42 hit it right on the head when he said that he was tired of all the complainers that complain about the complainers...he's totally got it right about the negetive feedback being an integral part of what the sponsors are looking for...if only positive feedback were allowed, then they would all just be living in ignorant bliss..."Oh, My ugly screensaver must really be a big hit...maybe I should charge $30 for it" I check this site everyday and there are definately useful programs such as Advanced WindowsCare V2 Pro & IObit Smart Defrag, but c'mon, a screensaver that costs $19.00? No Thanks...still love the site though...

CJ is missing the point. Yes $18 for a screensaver. Rixane Interactive have put their program up to see if people like it and would pay for it. My answer is no. By people saying, wow its free, or wow it sucks, neither of you are helping. make a comment on the software, thats what the sites about.
same thing everyday, people complaining about other people. Talk about the software.

I quite despise reading the comments on screensaver days. Deja vu anyone?
Try not to be so predictable please. It's like listening to the same track over and over and over and ...
The "$18 for a screensaver??" v "Stop whining! It's free so don't complain" tit for tat is awfully tiring.
The only comment of any value is bladedthoth's (as usual). Thanks for the heads up on this rather bland piece of software.

Installed the screensaver on one of my systems, and it works great.
Looks great, too.
My only beef is that at the start it shows a black screen for a few seconds, then the music kicks in and a few seconds after that, the visual stuff.
But still, I like this saver... so it's a keeper.
A bit of tweaking on the system, and turning off the music, and it should do away with my last beef.
Hopefully next time there'll be a saver with the same fields, but that has buffalo's roaming.... and interactivity in the shape of the user being able to plow through those peaceful fields in a really really heavy, really really big tank... ehm.... never mind....
And yeah, I could get with the environmental program, just turn off my monitor when not in use... but dangit, I already do piles to help the environment.
Think of the employees at the powerplant, you friggin hippies...
They lose a job, economy takes a plunge, and pretty soon you treehuggers won't be able to afford those solar-powered computers which you use to access the intrernet so you can post about how people need to turn their electric stuff off....
You want to save the environment?
Give the right example, turn off your computer, stop using the internet.... you know how many electronic thingamajigs you're accessing just so your message about turning off a monitor ends up on all our screens?
Where's my tank, dangit.... I wanna plow through some hippies!!!

OK, this is the last time that I'm going to say this. All CRT's burn-in long-term static images; newer CRT's simply burn-in more slowly. LCD's can retain long-term static images due to charge build-up across the LC cells, but the effect can be reversed over time with dynamic images (and the backlight will eventually burn out). Screensavers are simply executables that display (typically) dynamic images; they can be executed standalone, which is how I use them. Since I have a CRT, my screensaver first blanks the display, then powers down the monitor, and if the computer isn't doing anything, it goes into standby.

The vast majority of so-called free screensavers aren't. All of the websites that I've seen that claim to have thousands of free screesavers have a significant cost--spyware/adware. The Magentic link that #98 gave claims to be spyware/adware free until you read the fine print--once they reach their target number of users, the adware starts.

To GOTD: the fact that Rixane Interactive messes with the users' power schemes is very significant. Almost all software installations do some damage, but that's mostly due to poor (incompetent) programming. What Rixane Interactive is doing is essentially malicious, and occurs every time you run their screensavers. GOTD would be wise to stop promoting Rixane Interactive software until they stop this practice, as GOTD could potentially be held liable.

#90, uninstalling won't restore your power schemes. The damage is done every time you execute Rixane Interactive software. However, it doesn't do anything that would impact your ability to edit your power schemes or create new ones. If you can't edit your power schemes, it's due to some other reason.

Bit Of A Joke, Really The comments, that is. Me thinks someone should be collecting the comments and making a book or something from them. The comments are a good source of entertainment, and I can see there's some sort of competition to come up with the most entertaining response to an exciting description of a fields untouched by man (but not boy, girl, woman, or perhaps robot?). There has to be a foot or machine print in there somewhere to account for the rows of grass.

So please, keep giving us really awful software so that we can develop ever more clever things to say about it!

And once again, we have people whining and nagging and complaining about something that's being offered (for 24 hours) absolutely free.

I've said it before on this site, but I'll say it again - be grateful for the service this website is providing, because it's free. Remember, downloading these programs is not mandatory, so if you don't like a program that's being offered, please just shut up, don't download it, and wait for the next free 24-hour giveaway. Stop cluttering up the comments boards with "Oh, no, not another bleeping screensaver" and other similar comments. There are those of us out there who greatly appreciate the service this website is providing, and we would rather not share the blame if this service is withdrawn because too many people did not appreciate (abused) the generosity of the kind people at GAotD.

It's Easter. Be nice, or, as El Fabuloso rightfully says, enjoy your rabbit scat tomorrow.

As for this program, the graphics look great, all I have to do is upgrade my graphics card.
Thanks again, GAotD, great work as always.

It's surprising that anyone would actually post here who hasn't at least tried the software. Do you think anyone cares if you've decided to "pass?" This is where people comment after they've actually tried something. That's all we're interested in. The rest is childish graffiti. Why not go ride the bus and put gum under the seats instead?

It's pretty stupid to post a comment like, "not another screen saver." When others see that, they think of you, "not another moron."

Just like games, screensavers aren't necessary for a computer these days, they're simply eye candy. A lot of people like eye candy. This one happens to be pretty decent.

It's also pretty stupid to bother commenting on a price, when you have paid nothing for something. So your price was 0, and you complain about a price you didn't pay? For those of you who even mentioned this, population control was invented but sadly failed.

On the plus side, reading some of the dumb posts here makes me feel like I'll have a huge advantage if the world ever goes into mass starvation. Most of the whiners who post couldn't even figure out how to climb a tree to pick an apple. They will just stand starving at the bottom of the tree and say, "not another free apple."

Screensavers harm the environment!
turn your effin' monitor off when you're not using it... think of the trillions of watts of electricity that would be saved world wide
by just having your OS turn off the frigging monitor whie you're away....
a simple keystroke will turn it back on.

get with the eco program people... stop wasting electricity
on something as stupid as a screensaver that no-one is going to pay attention to anyway.

your computer dies more everytime you turn it on than allowing it to go to screensaver. Obviously, if you're done using the computers... TURN IT OFF. If not, or someone else, like kids or roommates, then leave it on. Don't whine over something good and free.

Instead, maybe tell us other alternatives like turning the computer or tell us not to use the computer period... anything is better than people's whine.

Yawn Ooo a screensaver. That'll stop me from turning off my system when not in use to save energy and the planet! I can now keep my system running, the processor and graphics card working away, using vast amounts of power and getting nice and toasty for eyecandy that I can't see anyway because I not at my computer. True the operational life of my computer system will now be shorter but what luxury.
