Been using it a few weeks now and my initial impressions holds.

1) Good looking, fun to use, and powerful . . .
2) . . . as long as one heeds all the comments above about how dangerous this can be. (And thank you very much, to all the commenters!)
3) One can take it stepwise. I first looked it over, learned about it. Then I did stuff with the disk space and looked for duplicates. Then I optimized the startup processes. There is no need to jump right into things like cleaning the registry.

Anyway, just popped back to leave a single downside comment; "In Glary's Process Manager, I miss having stripcharts for total CPU and RAM, like Task Manager has on its Performance tabs."

Thanks, GAOTD and Glary.

It crashed my machine - superb !!!! It has removed my DllHost.exe files and my COM Surrogate - my machine only works in safe mode. Don't even think about it doing a reg clean or a defrag, it wipes out the machine! THere is no way of repairing it, and my machine has to go into the shop for repair and who knows when I will get it back, there goes my business for X ammount of days! Thanks

I just wanred to an update to my previous post about this program. I have been using this since it came out and I have to say I am impressed.
It actually did speed up my puter and has not caused any problems with any of my programs. So as far as I am concerned this is a good program.
I even used it to do the registery entries which I wasn't keen on doing but in the spirit of testing I did it anyway and no problems.
I have been using tune up utilities 2008 and Glary has actually out done a program I have said was the best.
So think I will stay with the Glary program and thanks to GAOTD I got it free!

This software deleted important registry entries which controlled the ability to drag and drop and double click icons on the desktop as welll as being able to use hyperlinks on web pages to jump to other pages. Luckily I was able to restore the entries using the application and immediately removed it from my computer. Stay away from this program. It is dangerous.

Seriously? You judge a software based on it's name? How's that working out for you?

This software was featured in Lifehacker. I've been using it for over a year. It's amazing.

This is a great program and to be given the opportunity to use it, for FREE, that is amazing!
I recently read an article in a very well known PC nmagazine which was comparing utilities like this program.
Out of ten such utility apps, this one was the 'recommended' choice!
I highly recommend it too.
I have always used CCleaner to clean crap from the registry and it is great.
I ran the registry cleaner from this program though and, surprised or what - it found a whopping two hundred entries. I know enough about computers (i build and fix them professionally) to know that most of these registry entries were not just silly things to make it look like the prograsm was doing a great job (as a lot of similar apps usually do), no, the entries were indeed just stuff left over by bad uninstall program routines and, although theier effect on system performance is negligable to zero, or it is at least up for debate anyway, I still like to think the PC is better without loads of entries to files that no longer exist.
The other utilities in this program also removed vague and old files that were no longer used and, after rebooting I have found no ill effects from removing everything the program found!
EXCELLENT!

- And it doesn't uninstall. It doesn't require a reboot to go in, but it requires one to come out, and it leaves directories lying around on the hard drive. Very, very shoddy. If the install and uninstall are so slipshod one has to wonder about the rest of it.

- This also put a "GlarySoft" directory off the root of the C: drive. VERY bad form! I never asked for nor do I want stuff crammed off the root of my C: drive. Either put it under Admin's tree, or put it under the install directory. If I'd paid for this I'd be asking for my money back, regardless of how well it worked. There are tons of things with similar functions that work as a normal user and don't litter the drive with directories where they shouldn't be.
- So this one's a thumbs down and it'll be coming off.

The duplicate file finder is pretty useless. Just say I copy pictures from my camera two different times but one time I rename them. To use the Glary dup file finder for this i have to uncheck the "same name" and "same time", so all I have left with is "same size". I don't think I'm going to depend on the size matching to find a dup file.

I also don't trust the reg cleaner - I have Vista x64 also.

Last summer I actually reviewed Glary Utilities as one of my favorite downloads from GAOTD. That was before it deleted a necessary registry key, jacked up my system (I was foolish and hadn't backed up the registry), and forced a system restore. I lost many wonderful programs from GAOTD that I'm still waiting to reappear.

As if you didn't need another warning, here it is-- backup your registry if you're going to use this! Even better, don't use it! A "dirty" registry isn't going to kill your computing experience! Missing registry keys will! Sorry Glary!

- Nicely comprehensive, but since Activate.exe is bundled with setup.exe, it's impossible to Activate this as other than the required Admin. Great functions ... vastly inferior installation model. Other GOATD offerings have not suffered from this limitation ... Registry Doctor Pro for instance, on GOATD just the other day, loads as non-admin with reduced functionality. This should do the same.

Install does not touch registry, so these be backed up for use in USB stick or external hard disk.
For free alternatives, see TuneUp or ASC.

Don't believe the limitation about "No free upgrades". After you install the Giveaway of the Day - Glary Utilities PRO 2.9, you can visit the website of Glary Utilities, download and install the Free version 2.10.0.622. The Glary Utilities PRO 2.9 will upgrade to PRO 2.10 and, yes, you can always use the same way to upgrade the Glary Utilities PRO to the latest version. Just remember don't remove it from your system, the license may get lost.

There seems to be much confusion over which cleanup utility is best. The answer is none. The solution is simple and you won’t have to worry about deleting registry files, applications that won’t install properly, applications that interfere with each other, which utility is best, and all the rest. Just follow these instructions and your system will run fast, smooth, and efficient.

1. Copy all of your pictures, music, video, and documents to an external hard drive.
2. Perform a one time and last time clean install on a smaller hard drive.
3. Perform updating and install your other primary applications.
4. Install Acronis True Image.
5. Use the disc cloning feature in True Image to copy your clean install to a third HD.
6. Take the clean install HD out and put it in a safe place.
7. Put the cloned HD in your computer.
8. Use the cloned HD to test GAOTD or other free software.
9. If you are sure the tested software is a keeper, then install it to your clean install HD.
10. If your cloned HD shows any sign of a problem, just re-clone it.

True Image has backup and disc clean-up features and more, but you will not have to worry about your registry again. If you want to speed up your computer, read Gizmo’s Tech Support Alert article –“How to Make Vista Run Faster” which is found in the section – “How-to Guides and Tutorials”. The part of the article in which start-up applications are turned off can be applied to XP. Also check out his article – “Never Re-install Windows Again.” And “Gizmo’s Guide to Securing Your PC. Acronis True Image is the best software I ever bought. Cloning a HD takes about 10 – 15 minutes with True Image. If you like to experiment with new software products, this is the way to go.

It's good enough that I can get Glary Utilities PRO so I'm downloading and keeping it. Used the trial before and benefited. Thanks, GATD!

Just 2 observations:
- This is not the newest version. Newest is version 2.10.0.622 as the website says (http://www.glaryutilities.com/gup.html?tag=download), so beware of updating and replacing GATD's offer with the latest since only a trial of the newest version is free.
- Glary doesn't have Advanced SystemCare's Firefox/TCP Optimizer, Smart Defrag and Smart RAM (these latter two work in the background) so I'll still be using these features of ASC.

This is nowhere near as complete or polished as TuneUp Utilities (and the 2007 version is now free vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/2231665/tuneup-utilities-2007). But I'm sure many will find this useful, just use the registry cleaner with caution.

Many people use the registry cleaner in Glary Utilities - but use extreme caution as the registry cleaner does identify some valid and needed registry entires as being bad - and if you delete all found "errors" these will be deleted.

Only use the registry cleaner if you know what you are doing and manually verify every dound error otherwise you could have problems. Post #34 explains some of the problems with the registry cleaner.

If you do want to clean the registry then the registry cleaner is TuneUp Utilities is very safe to use as 99.9% of the erros it finds are actual unneeded registry keys and are safe to be delete.

Also the registry cleaner in the free CCleaner is also safe to use (but not paricualry thorough). However it is best to disable the check for obsolete software as in very rare occasions, empty software keys are needed).

Also I must add that cleanning the registry rarely speeds up your computer or fixes errors or crashes. Even if you have hundreds or even thousands of "registry errors" - mostly these registry entries are just uneeded junk in the registry - but are completely harmless and there is no need to remove them. Very few invlalid registry keys cause problems. And if you remove a valid registry entry whuch most registry cleaners do - you run the risk of making Windows unbootable - you won't be able to start Windows, meaning unless you really know what you are doing you will have to reinstall Windows.

To #120 I'm sure Premium Booster is not locking up - it just takes time to back up the registry and your computer will freeze at times. I suggest you leave it for 10 minutes and see if it finishes.

Hi all!!

Great tool which does what the slurp says even though I still didn't understand the difference between the FREE and PRO VERSION of GLARY UTILITIES that can justify the different price besides the “Automatic care in background” option, as I can't see what the developer means by saying “Much much more powerful utilities” when he describes the GLARY UTILITIES PRO VERSION.

BEST FREE ALTERNATIVES TO THIS GAOTD:

- TUNE UP UTILITIES 2007:

Free here:

h ttp://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/downloads/2231665/tuneup-utilities-2007

(remove space at beginning)

- ADVANCED SYSTEM CARE

- SWEEPI 5.4

h ttp://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Sweepi.shtml

(remove space at beginning)

Sweepi 5.4, despite being less known than GLARY and the other utilities setmentioned above, makes your system run faster and more efficiently, protecting your privacy and removing useless data stored in your PC. In its last version, compatible with VISTA, it has also a new nice tool to optimize the RAM USAGE (Sweepi RamOptimizer) and the “CleanUp Wizard” which serves as a guide through the cleaning process and offers answers to many questions (Sweepi ConfWiz), so perfect for newbies…LOL!

The last version has also a new BootManager Version to check out and organise the Windows Autostart entries and more Program-specific CleanUp components such as:

* SWEEPI SHORTCUTTER, a tool used to find and destroy Shortcuts that are no longer valid
* SWEEPI SLICER which allows you to safely destroy files so that no one can restore them.
* a NEW QUICK-CLEAN OPTION that makes Cleaning even faster.

Did I say that it’s FREE?

Finally, since GLARY UTILITIES PRO doesn’t appear to be a reliable REGISTRY CLEANER, I also suggest you trying to use these free better alternatives so as to clean your windows registry more in depth:

- FREE WINDOW REGISTRY REPAIR 1.5 (very good)

- ARGENTE REGISTRY CLEANER 1.5.2.1 (EXCELLENT)

- QUICKSYS REGDEFRAG 2.1 (VERYGOOD)

- GLARYSOFT REGISTRY REPAIR

http://www.download.com/Glary-Registry-Repair/3000-2086_4-10372101.html?tag=mncol;txt

Despite being developed by the same Software House of GLARY UTILITES (Glarisoft) GLARYSOFT REGISTRY REPAIR is in my view a better and more advanced registry cleaner than GLARY UTILITES PRO with many extra features such as a short explanation of why each key is no longer necessary, an option to decide which programs launch on start-up and an option to automatically back up the Registry before removing anything.

I used it a couple of days ago and to my great surprise it found more than 100 problems to my windows registry that Glary Utilites, Advanced SystemCare FREEWARE version and the award-winning CCleaner did not detect previously!

Finally for VISTA users like you I also suggest trying “DTweak Free”, an advanced tweaker and optimizing tool designed to enhance the performance and the speed of your PC and its processes especially for PC running VISTA as OS.

You will be surpised at the speed your PC will be having after you use this little GEM.

With DTweak you can:

- defragment disks and registers,
- clean registry sistem,
- tune computer performance,
- optimize and increase the speed of your system without manually modifying registers or ini files.

h ttp://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/DTweak-Free.shtml

h ttp://www.download.com/DTweak-Free/3000-2086_4-10800709.html

(remove space at beginning)

As you can see it got VERY GOOD RATING from users in both sites and not just because it's FREE...lol!!

All in all GLARY UTILITIES PRO is a keeper although in my humble view it's not the best REGISTRY CLEANER product available on the web.

Moreover Glary Utilities PRO doesn't have a couple of extra features that Advanced SystemCare has, such as DEFRAG TOOLS and since the main purpose of these kind of programs is to keep our system running more quickly and smoothly I personally prefer a program like Advanced SystemCare with defrag tools rather than an application like GLARY UTILITIES PRO with a file encryption feature instead of a defrag tool, not to mention that even the Advanced SystemCare PRO version can now be downloaded for free...LOL!!!

Good night from Italy!!

Installed with no problems on P4-133 Win XP Home SP3 secondary rig.

1st Post install run found a lot of issues relating to my uninstall of Comodo BoClean and Firewall. Obviously the

Comodo uninstall didn't clean up very well. Scanning through the other 264 registry issues it found all looked to

be correctly identified based on other updates and uninstalls (such as IE4 references).

Comparison to CCleaner -
Temp Files MB Registry Issues
Glary 10.69 264
CCleaner 43.7 67

I ran the CCleaner temp file cleanup then re-ran the Glary module which found 238.81 KB of temp files - all of which

were log files. Not a lot, but hey, every bit of garbage is still fit to be trashed.

I ran the Glary Registry module & ran it's 'Repair Problems' process. It took four successive runs of Glary to

finally reduced the list to three enduring entries that won't go away. CCleaner still reported 44 bad registry

entries which I did not clean up.

Looks like it's time to re-boot.

No issues reported on startup. Ran Firefox and all OK, NAV and Windows Defender also running Ok. Ran a few apps

which all look good as well. Only long-term testing will tell for sure.

My take - Looks like each has it's strengths and together they look like a winning combination.

Registry Cleaners: I personally use them except as a last resort - I prefer routine system reloads over the risk of

deleting registry entries I may not know the full effect of.

Temp File Cleaners: I run CCleaner almost daily and have never found any real negative impacts. Just make sure of

the settings you use (cookies to keep, apps to exclude, etc.). I was surprised that this app found some files

CCleaner missed so will be adding it to my arsenal.

History Cleaners: I don't have a reason to use them but have never seen an issue caused by running one.

Overall: Thumbs up - valuable addition to the toolbox!

Not that anyone will read this far down the page, but I've used various tools like this in the past and this one seems to include more tools, easier to use tools and a great, simple interface.

It's quite powerful for those that want it and can take care of things for basic users too. Very helpful tool that I'll be keeping. Thanks for this one GAOTD

I've been using this since May of '07 [GAOTD] and have always found it to be durable, dependable, reliable, easy to use, and so far has never created a problem. As mentioned earlier it updates the GAOTD registration with no penalty, and of course always use caution when working in the registry. Thanks Glary for the great software - thanks GAOTD for providing the offer.

ASHRAF said:

". . . my suggestion for one single system tuneup/optimization utility would be Advanced SystemCare - especially since you can
get Pro currently for free."

As far as I can see, it's only FREE if you make a purchase of
another specific brand of software. To me, that's not FREE at
all.

"Advanced SystemCare is easy to use and overall a nice program
- it is my recommendation yet again."

I downloaded it the FREE version. Immediately it began "scanning"
and enumerating a number of "problems," many being Spyware/Adware,
many being "Registry" problems, others being "cleanup" problems --
deleting files that Advanced Systemcare deemed "junk" and
unnecessary.

Nowhere, however, did I see a way for ME to choose "what" I wanted
to keep and what I wanted to delete!

All I could see was a choice of either DELETING or clearing away
the "problems" it had found, or CANCELLING and not going ahead.

Nope, I wasn't about to blindly let it clear away everything IT
deemed a "problem," esapecially when it first claimed there were
230 Adware/Spyware "problems", then later showed a pop-up claiming
there was only 1 problem!

It made a similar claim regarding Registry "problems." About 2600
of those, as I recall.... but later showed only a few. Can't it
make up its mind?

Unless there's something I'm missing, this software is just a bit
TOO "automatic" for my taste. If it's finding so many "problems,"
why aren't we allowed to see a list of them? I don't enjoy the
thought of pressing one button and having everything "cleared up,"
especially when it disagrees with itself as to what is being
"cleared up."

I decided not to chance it, and cancelled the "go ahead" option.
I want to learn more about the experience of others with this
software before taking a chance with it. (Sure, they suggest
setting up a Restore Point just in case.... which I did.... but
who can be certain when things go wrong that "Restoring" will
solve anything?)

I'm going to see what "Google Groups" has to say about "Advanced
SystemCare" before I go any further with it.

Installed Glary Utilities Pro v2.9 (as above) on Win XP x32 SP3 Ok & ran it with 1-click Maintenance. This did give an option to look at the individual entries to be deleted which I took advantage of. Followed the built in link for the update & downloaded & installed it OK. Still Pro & still registered. When I ran the v2.10.x version 1-click Maintenance it now added a Clean Up Internet History option. Looking at the details of the Internet History to be deleted I noticed that it was offering to delete ALL of my cookies! Since this would have disabled most of the auto logons on web sites I unchecked this. Be careful. It's still a keeper for me however.

I still use version 2.0.0.3 of this software and am unsure of the upgrades for it offered here today. I have been using this APP for along long time and like it very much. It has a ton of different little options to clean your system and get it screamin fast again. A cool feature that i will mention that i like is the ability to explore the computer file sytem and graphically see the size of al the folders- a quick way to see whats eating up the most hardrive space. This App has a ton of little features like this. A+

Wow, I used it to clean up all tracks of my computer use, internet and otherwise and my recent/favorites from the start menu in XP disappeared! Other than that I like this program it catches other stuff which advanced system care misses. Good program. Thanks hosting it again.

only flaw with this that i have found is that it deletes the registry data for my brother control suite, so i had to reload that software so that i could use the other functions of the printer IE scan/copy other than that it seems fine, but that one thing is worth unchecking the registry portion of the cleaner.

I downloaded and used Glary Utilities the first time GOTD offered it and I learned to love it.
I have been hoping for a long time it would come back on GOTD.
Now I have downloaded on a vista desktop and a vista laptop and on an XPsp3 desktop and an XPsp3 netbook: no problem on anyone of these machines,it found and fixed many problems that have been overlooked by CCleaner, registry doctor and tune up utilities (I know I'm a bit paranoic).
So thanks very Much Glary and GOTD.
really, thanks

Thanks GOTD! I've used Glary's before and liked it very much.

BTW, I was at CES last week and found that Phoenix Technologies was giving away a free temporary Test Drive to their driver updating program.

They own the website "DriverAgent.com" which I've used for years to update my PC's.

They charge an annual fee of $29.95 which I pay because I support a lot of computers.

But for 3 Days you can run it for FREE.

Go to: www.driveragent.com/ces

Been a user of ASC Free for quite awhile now (love it, btw), and all the clatter about getting the Pro version free had me curious... and disappointed on actually doing the research. It's not entirely free, it's a TrialPay scenario: "Complete ONE offer from brands like X, Y or Z and we'll send you a Pro license...." but only if you hand over a legitimate email address to which they can send it (and whatever junk they feel you need to receive in the future!

A few mentioned about startups from applications and preventing them, spybot does this very well (teatimer) it warns anytime any application wants to put something into your startup and most registry changes also.

This sounds like it does a lot of what I use CCleaner for but has a few more goodies.

Installed and updated to newest version on XP SP2 with no problem (reboot required after the update).

I was not impressed with the uninstaller, as it looks to merely bring up the Windows Add/Remove screen. When uninstalling a program (Premium Booster, as it always locked up on backing up the registry), all it did was bring up the program's uninstaller. I then had to "remove" the program from the Add/Remove list. I could have just as easily used the program's Uninstall file and done it all in one step instead of three.
I was impressed with the results of a Registry scan. It found things that Registry Booster 2 did not find, and unlike Reg Booster, I could expand the window to see exactly what the whole line says! For this reason, I wish I hadn't paid for Reg Booster!

I will continue to use this as a secondary reg cleaner, but as with any, very carefully!

Thank you GAOTD and Glarysoft!

Glary is decent but it has serious bugs on Vista.
I'm glad to see somebody discovered Desktop Maestro from PCTools . Surprised to see so many "connaiseurs" ignoring it !
# 111 - Mar I've gaved you an YES :-) for bringing that up .
OMG that free promo on for-free-on-internet.com is still valid ?! That's where I've got a free licence in September .
I strongly recommend Desktop Maestro ( yes it has Registry Mechanic and Spyware Doctor engines inside ). Just try it and you'll thank me .
Keep the good work GAOTD and friends!

TO: #12 - Spin, There is a Firefox extension called "Clear Private Data" available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1280
This is a great extension to clear temp files..

Todays program is one of the best of this type. I have been using it for
awhile now though I usually do my reg-cleaning manually for safety.
I give it a 9.5 out of 10....

(PS - Anyone know why the Firefox link above is using 'https' ? When did they start using an 's' on URLS ? )

#104:

I did the upgrade from an earlier GOTD install of Pro just now. Checked the status page and it still shows as registered to GOTD with an expiration date of "NEVER".

Thanks GOTD!!!
