This software worked great until today. Now it is telling me that the license is no good. It says the key is already in use by another skype ID

Installed the version that was available as GOTD last time around (version 1.7.x). Worked fine.
Installed this latest version. Worked fine on 15 October 2010. It isn’t working today; I get a message saying “this key has already been registered using a different Skype ID”, and saying that the license key is invalid. It seems that the G-Recorder Pro setup file was updated and that re-downloading the archive and re-installing the software was suggested.

How to solve this issue (as the giveaway is no longer available for download) ?

Installed without issues. I've also got the previous version of G-Recorder offered at GAOTD. Excellent as well. Keep up the good work!

@ Andrew Tylycho. You are not correct in saying that antivirus vendors reverse engineer software to check for malware. Most software licenses contain a clause that forbids reverse engineering their software, and antivirus vendors are held to that restriction unless they receive permission from the software maker. But even if there were no restrictions, there is not enough time in a day to reverse engineer the tens of thousands of software programs that are offered to the public. The majority of websites that host software for download do run the product through a virus scanner, but they do no reverse engineer them. The irony of your comment is that your own software contains the restriction against reverse engineering!

#10 Asschaff and others were basically Trolls using this site to drive traffic to their various web properties. (It's a free country (USA) - nothing wrong with that) - But anyway Asschaff's "reviews" were about as useless as teets on a groundhog. They were long-winded statements of the obvious, mixed with lots of conjecture, finished with some unfounded opinion and more than a few outright factual errors. Every piece of software was "fairly easy to install" and "somewhat of a memory hog". His principal complaint was always the inability to re-size a window. Technical knowledge was nonexistent. But he was entertaining - I miss that aspect of the "reviews". We urged him for years to actually set up some benchmarks and then objectively review the software against those benchmarks instead of using vague and misleading statements - but the advice never sunk in.

Give these strangers my Gmail password? Are they insane? I'm certainly not, and not about to do this. For anyone who did, consider the advice of the great philosophers Mr. T and Nelson and change your password immediately (before someone else does).

Is not necessary to use Gmail or others. You can from settings to store what you record only on your computer and at Mail Server use:Offline. If before you use gmail for example, choise :Custom and delete your account name and password, next use:Offline.

I would worry more about free software, cos I don’t know how their authors expect to earn anything with them. --Andrew Tylychko

Not everything in the world is about money; some people create just to be creative and others create to try to better the world or just to be helpful.

If the software is open source and everyone has access to the source code and can compile it themselves, then what's to worry about. If the software is dodgy, then the open source community will quickly raise the red flags.

Free (or even commercial) "closed source" programs are much more risky (when they're from smaller firms with smaller groups of programmers looking over the code) and suspect (especially when they request user names and passwords to third-party applications). The problem with closed source things of this nature is that one can never be sure that the program isn't also sending your information to some server somewhere else and storing it. You just have to take the developer's word for it.

I'm sorry. I just don't know you well enough for that.

The reaction of Andrew Tylychko from Grecorder I would call at least 'suspicious'. I get the feeling he does no like someone mentioning the privacy questions and dangers of his software, as he is trying to talk about other software. But other software does not ask us to share our secret passwords of mailclients ! For unknown reason this software maintains a live-connection with it's makers, or who knows with whom else, and where they doing it for, not for the upgrades anyway as GOTD software does not offer upgrades, strange ! Know what you are doing by installing this.

imagine you installed a nice screensaver yesterday. do you think there's any danger? more than with g-recorder? any software can keylog your password or do any other harm to you. G-Recorder is a commercial product, so it's supposed that its sells will bring some money to the authors. I would worry more about free software, cos I don't know how their authors expect to earn anything with them.

there're lots of different antiviruses, or windows defender etc. that are supposed to warn you about any malware you try to install on your system. their teams reverse-engineer a lot of different products daily to check if they can do any harm to you. g-recorder was checked by downloads.com, tucows.com and many others software catalogs. just check our web-site

Why don't you just run a sound recorder whilst talking on Skype? Then it could work for other programs too, and you could name it what you want, save it where you want, and what format you want, at the same time.

And most messenger software save chat logs anyway, if you know where to look.

GOTD thanks for this software, but how do we know that the truth behind this software is not that it is actually a tool of third parties for spying on us ? What guarantees do they can give that this software eventually cannot and will not be controlled from outside, with or without a government involved ? I don't trust this kind of software as many organisations of doubtable reputation could use this very well against us. What guarantees do they give there are no hidden functions, and how they guarantee our privacy ? Skype in China contains software that makes the government able to fully automated spy on the people based on keywords, I see this clearly coming to the west as well. This software can be potentionally used against us, when it is not made for what they make us think it is.

#10 - I wonder where Ashraf, Mike and Fubar are as well?? Although, trying the software and offering their insight and knowledge thereof was a thankless task, maybe they were unaware of the number of us who read and trusted their reviews and opinions. It is a loss to this site, indeed.

Thank you GAOD as always.

Thanks! Installed and registered without any problems. :)

For anyone who had trouble with it saying "invalid username/password" when trying to connect to gmail, I had to make sure IMAP was enabled, tell gmail to not always use https, and use the full address instead of just the username portion of it. Then it finally connected...

2 Critzujay: have you tried to contact G-Recorder Support? Because we're always ready to help you.

about your issues:

1) G-Recorder sends skype chat logs to your gmail because it's one of its main functions by design. if you use desktop mail client that doesn't support gmail in full (e.g. MS Outlook), you can configure rules to resolve this problem, e.g. a rule to delete permanently all mails that contain "Skype chat" or "Skype call" or "Skype group chat" or "Skype group call" in the subject and "G-Recorder" in the body.

2) as it was described in comments to the previous G-Recorder GOTD day, this issue appeared only for users who hadn't registered G-Recorder properly as was described in readme.txt. There were simple 3 steps. This time we decided to simplify this process and reduced it to one simple step - "run setup.exe". hope this helps

3) again, please contact G-Recorder Support, it's pretty easy - go to G-Recorder tray menu and use "Report a problem..."

I tried this in the last time it was offered,

it had the following issues,

1, it sent me updates of my skype text logs, (which I keep anyway) It would make text memos into email messages every hour or so, thus my email box got loaded with parsed skype text logs.

2, it expired in around 30 days and required purchase.

3, it never really recorded my voice logs.

Now if it could record the voice only and keep the mp3 as logs on the local machine, that would have validity.

First, I'm wondering what has happened with Ashraf, mike, and others who previously gave us useful evaluations of the software here.

Second, I don't understand what's with all you folks who give thumbs up or (especially) thumbs down, but don't make a comment about the programs. More and more of this is happening but I find it more stressful than helpful-- IF YOU HONESTLY HAVE STRONG FEELINGS, BASED ON EXPERIENCE, please be so kind as to share with the rest of us what you do/don't like. If you are simply voting to push an agenda, please quit!

Thanks.

Used version 1.7.X (I think) a bit. Worked fine and was unobtrusive.

Not quite sure why folks talk about skipping GAOTD offers when free alternatives are available unless the other software is more useful/effective.
Here they ARE free, albeit for 24 hours and with some limitations in support and/or upgrade and/or other constraints.

I realize the developers/companies offer these so folks can try their work for more than a usual shareware/trial limit and hopefully, will buy the next version or upgrade. Sometimes, the offers do seem more like beta versions for which feedback is hoped.

Still - thanks to GAOTD and all those companies/developers who offer up your wares.

best

Activated immediately, no issues.

However, it should be noted that during install, you can opt to store Skype conversations solely on your home pc rather than in Gmail, yet even if you choose that option, as I did, the install cannot be completed unless you provide not just your Gmail address but also your password, which I was not about to do.

It seems bonkers to me, in terms of security -- they're not only going to have your Skype number but also your Google Account (which of course gives them access to way more than just email, if you're big on Google apps).

It also strikes me as odd that this software should be so narrowly applicable to Skype calls. You'd think, if they're going to be all over your Gmail Account, that you'd also be able to use it with Google Voice & Chat.

(for that matter, if I'm going to install a workstation app capable of recording telephone calls, why wouldn't this app also record any and all soft phone conversations emanating from my computer?)

And there's no indication on the developer's homepage that this app will ever be applicable for anything besides Skype.

I'm actually in the market for a nice integrated bit of software that seamlessly records my calls. I do lots of interviews as a writer & researcher and currently use a digital recorder, which is far less convenient.

Unfortunately, given the limited appeal of this product and the unlimited access it (supposedly) requires to my private data and communications, I can't even consider it.
