#31 Naslapi; thanks for the info, I have downloaded Fotografix and will see if it can do what I need. #40-Em if you re-read my question, above (#17) "17.Does any one know of software (free) that allows you to draw and cut part of an image? Hallmark cards allows this and I love that feature, but unfortunately, you cannot save the cutout for other uses." my usage of the words "draw" and "cut" should tell you immediately that I am not after cropping as Irfanview and Fastone does this nicely. Hallmark furnishs a pencil tool wherein you draw around a face and simply cut it for use in a card that you design. You cannot save the cutout alone and that was my question. All the programs that crop are 9 out 10 cropping squares! I want the face only. Hope you understand now! "draw & cut".
#42 & 44. Thanks for your suggestions and #44 I will look into Artrage as I do have paintnet but that is designed to remove what you don't want. Thanks!

@GOTD
Please banish Filestream and Algologic, as long as they does not ensure functional registry.
I have more than 300 giveaways. All registered as full versions. Registration without problems. But of Algologics giveaways (GOTD and DSG) don't run 5 of 6 as full versions, and of Filestreams giveaways don't run 2 of 2.

Many hours wasted.
Aargh ... I am so sour ...

What - nobody ask about Giovanni? (i assume mod guy put stop to that... perhaps as he/she should...)

As it turns out, i get to go (near) last (gotta change my hrs?) and very few will read my wise observations... But, i gotta say all of us should read the "rules" before posting here. All of us should find examples of our tirades (by others) and see what the responses are! Suggest you write your masterpiece, get up and walk away, and then come back later and read it with clear eyes - BEFORE YOU POST...

Sorry but i don't have time (and resources now) to research past pages, but i'm willing to bet that some that frequently post here don't realize that either their ideas or their names (apparently) invite some seriously negative marks... Almost without variation, posts that ask for help garner the same. (Agreed: this is NOT a tutorial site... but occasionally i, of 'average' pc skill, might like to see certain questions answered. What the poster might not realize is that the negative marks mean that not only could their question NOT be ignored - it had to be flagged as being an aggravation...)

Well... if this non-relevant post happens to get added, let me add one more thing: GOTD is the proper way to abbreviate
"Giveaway of the Day"

Running Windows Vista Home

Downloaded and installed fine. Enter Registration Key under Internet Registration not off line as licence file is requried. The program it’s self is a simple watermark program that a has a varity of templates that may be used to add a watermark to you photo’s. Easy program to learn but again there are many freeware programs that can do this sort of thing. So for $30 dollars I would of expected a few more options within the program, or mabey some more Templates.

1 Good point is tha Batch option which allows you to watermark multiple Pics at once.

Personal I would not pay $30 dollars for this type of program as I could do all of this with one program that does so much more like Infraview and it is Totally Free.

This would be a Good Back up Program in your Software Collection.

Thank you GOTD and PixalApp for Todays Download.

There is absolutely no point to filling out the registration form. Just email anything to the address outlined in the readme to get the "password".

If I assume the same registration system as the last FileStream program, this one is widely unpopular. I only got key 1/7003, while last time it went to key 3 or 4/10002. As usual, keeping the key as plaintext in the installer is a dumb idea.

It does seem that GAOTD has come up with a lot of zonkers lately but it is a site that promotes products from small developers. So maybe this program doesn't do everything it advertises but maybe, just maybe, the developer will look at all this feedback and improve the program. It's either that or throw in the towel and go back to being a dishwasher. Either way one cannot blame GAOTD for this or any other offering that falls short.

I would suggest that anybody concerned with giving an unknown(to them) company details-valid email address, etc. There are many free email providers available to use as a junk address for circumstances such as todays giveaway. Using one of these (fake personal info of course) todays offering installed easily. Program is very limited in capabilities, IMO not quite ready for commercial market, but with a little more work might be worth about half of stated price. Thanks GOTD & FILESTREAM for a FREE diversion

"zephyrdell"... as a reply to you, I can heartill recommend both Paint.net and ArtRage to you. They are awesome programs and are FREE. Paint, net will do pretty much anything that the big-box program does. Tons of add ons, and help at their forum.
Not all versions of ArtRage are free, but the basic level is free always, and is a wonderful toolkit of tools to do great things with images of all kinds. Art is such a joy !

Not worth commenting on, but will say one thing--this is not ready to put in front of the public.

Question? Why does it seem the first or second comment is always a glowing remark followed by "just what I was looking for. Thanks!"

Most everyone is having trouble yet @2 resized a batch of 50? Yet couldn't find a free program to do this, even though there are pleanty of alternatives and this "saved his life" meaning it was very important--but not enough to go looking.

Spammer is what I think. Pure do-do.

@ #15 (and others)
The reason for this type of registration is because FileStream want to force you to give a "valid" email address to them so that "FileStream" can send you all those "offers" later... ;-)

And to make matters worse then you cannot unsubscribe from their news letters emails unless that you send FileStream an email from the email address also - they apparantly won't allow "opt-out" by a simple clink a link in the bottom of their emails either....

FileStream can keep this one as far as I am concerned....

But thanks to GOTD just the same....

my 2 cents: I use ACDSee Photomanager 12, a paid program, but it does everything right, everything that this does and more - it will actually take thousands of photos and manipulate as you desire, without crashing and in reasonable time. The attributes of ACDS12 are too many to list - I've used ACDSee ever since it first came out; it has equals, but none better, and none more intuitive.
Thanks anyway on this one.

"1 – The resizer is too basic – what they call resolution is only the size, and you can’t change the resolution. There isn’t a checkbox to keep the proportions the same either, which most resizing tools have."

You can enter any wisth and height of your choice, or select from the quick pull down of popular screen resolutions.

"2 – For emailing, it only uses your default email program. You can’t use an online mail service, such as Gmail."

In that case, it is best that you export it to a folder of your choice and then e-mail the photos from there.

"3 – You can’t modify an existing project. I tried to change the frame on a project that I reloaded, and it didn’t change it. Why make you click through all the windows on an existing project if you can’t even change it?"

Yes, you can. There is the Recreate function to update your changes.

"4 – I did finally figure out how to undo the photo effects I didn’t like (go back, select the photo and click on “recreate”) Neither intuitive nor convenient. I didn’t test the photo effects a lot, but from what I saw they aren’t very good."

There is no telling how many photos are in the project. It is not a good idea to instantly update all the photos when a change is made. The Recreate function provides the users more control of when to do what.

"5 – It puts several junk files in the output folder."

There is an Output JPEG only option on the second wizard page (Step 1). Make sure you only input photo files, however.

"6 – I didn’t like the photo show either; you have to click on each photo to bring up a too-small image, and then click on it again to close it."

If you have ideas for wish list, feel free to send it to support@filestream.com.

"7 – For the slideshow, you can’t control the size or the timing of the slides."

It is really an added extra option. The main purpose of the program is to batch compress and stylize group of photos. You may create your own slideshow using your own slideshow program after batch processing your photos with FrameShop.

8 – If I had actually paid the exorbitant price, I would certainly have asked for a refund. As it is, I’ve only wasted my time.

FrameShop does compression and does it very well. It maintains visual quality of your photos when you resize them. For example, if you have 3000x3000 hi res photos, by resizing it to 1000x1000 you will reduce the photo size by a factor of 9. The key here is FrameShop maintains visual quality with its resizing operation.

#26 - I think you're looking for Quick Image Resizer, you set up a size and then drag a batch of fotos into one side of the window and they appear, resized and compressed on the other side of the window. I use it a lot, works great.

Unfortunately, it's shareware with a 30 day free trial. I got it here at GOTD. The website is dzsoft.com

This program sounded interesting, so I accepted the tedious registration process and installed it.

There are too many things wrong with this program for me to want to keep it.

The good:

Some of the frames are rather nice.

The bad:

1 - The resizer is too basic - what they call resolution is only the size, and you can't change the resolution. There isn't a checkbox to keep the proportions the same either, which most resizing tools have.

2 - For emailing, it only uses your default email program. You can't use an online mail service, such as Gmail.

3 - You can't modify an existing project. I tried to change the frame on a project that I reloaded, and it didn't change it. Why make you click through all the windows on an existing project if you can't even change it?

4 - I did finally figure out how to undo the photo effects I didn't like (go back, select the photo and click on "recreate") Neither intuitive nor convenient. I didn't test the photo effects a lot, but from what I saw they aren't very good.

5 - It puts several junk files in the output folder.

6 - I didn't like the photo show either; you have to click on each photo to bring up a too-small image, and then click on it again to close it.

7 - For the slideshow, you can't control the size or the timing of the slides.

8 - If I had actually paid the exorbitant price, I would certainly have asked for a refund. As it is, I've only wasted my time.

Well, I hope that this comment will save someone else from wasting their time on this badly-conceived software.

A definite thumbs down.

For resizing, as others have noted, there are plenty of choices. For frames, I have used the free Frame Fun and found it pretty good, but am still looking for something better.

"Step 1: output requirements
Strange thing: max resolution is 1024×768!?? Luckily, keep original format will work too AND there is an option to set custom resolutions.
You can also put a max. limit for total photo size output AND/OR total amount of pictures. Strange options. If it were PER PHOTO, that would have been nice."

There is no max resolution. You can enter any width and height you want. The resolution pull down is only there listing common screen resolution to save some typing.

Often, e-mail client or e-mail server, upload sites, other devices may have a limit on the total size of files or photos. For example, your e-mail may only allow a total of 500MB attachment. That is the reason for this option.

"Step 2: select multiple photos. Folder selection is NOT possible. Missed chance! I really need my mass-tools to recursive search folders. Once the photos are added, you cannot use Ctrl-A in the program itself to select all photos. One needs to work with the mouse to select (after the initial Add photos)."

You can use the Windows standard Ctrl or Shift key to multiple select photos to be entered and after they are entered.

"Step 3 Layout and Style
Actually here are a few nice options. For layout: crop photos / best fit without cropping or picture frame. For frame you can select 9 patterns. I like “Bevel” – it looks like a 3D pop-out :) There’s also an option Border. To me, it’s just the same option as Frame. They work on top of each other, and I can’t say it works really transparent :s
With Shadow you can add an extra border to give the effect of a shaduw. In practice, this looks ugly, unless you use a size of 1."

There are a lot of options depending on your original photo size and orientation. Try any of the four options, like Crop Photo for Best Fit, then check the buttons above, like Frame, for different styling. Buttons not available for a particular option will be grayed out.

Click the Help button for more detailed information bout each option.

"Step 6 (4): Create and Fix photos
Options: Recreate / Auto Level / Auto Contrast / Auto Smooth / Auto Sharpen. I’m using the default Example Photos of Windows. I enabled all options (except Recreate). Again, photos have to be selected manually. Actions are applied immediately. Extra options: Auto Colour / Blur / Old Photo / Black & White / Negative / RED EYE CORRECTION / remove colour cast. These extra options need to be applied individually in “Edit”-mode. Too bad."

You can use the Windows standard Ctrl or Shift key to multiple select photos for batch processing.

"Step 5: Sequence: decide which order you need."

You can select one of use the Windows standard Ctrl or Shift key to multiple select photos, and drag and drop to rearrange the sequence.

"Step 6: Send Photos
THIS IS VERY STRANGE AND A REASON FOR UNINSTALLING!
You must SEND the photos to an email address!! The program uses Internet Explorer for this! It IGNORES my Chrome! To make matters even worst, all opened IE screens were EMPTY (Internet Explorer blows such big balls :0).
To complicate matters further, the program thinks it has sent the files successfully once IE is opened. Then it ONLY allows to send again (which fails) OR TO QUIT THE PROGRAM!"

There are four option at this step: Send Photos (via e-mail), Export Photos (to a folder), Creat Slide Show (built in player), Create (3D) Photo Show (built in 3D photo player). The e-mail option uses your IMAP e-mail client. It does call or use any web browser.

@dadams(#15) Please speak for yourself. I do not appreciate this offer and judging by the comments there are many others who are less than thrilled. Why would I appreciate a developer that makes you jump through hoops just to register their product? Then once it's registered you find a confusing, poorly developed mess that pales in comparison to so many freeware alternatives, yet they have the stones to put a $50 price tag on it. People are supposed to give feedback here, and they don't need you speaking for all.

What's up with the ultra-slow download speeds? I've noticed over the past several days that the maximum transfer rate on downloads from both this site and your sister site (Game Giveaway of the Day) have been between 33 and 50kbps - a far cry from the nearly 1MBps that was common previously.

Have you moved to different servers, or perhaps using a different ISP? If so, the slow speed is often indicative of a shared server, where user accounts are "throttled back" to ensure equal access for all accounts on the shared server.

Then there's the increasingly contorted registration process. Quite obviously, the developer for today's offering is quite intent on capturing a large mailing list of potential customers (including your street address and company affiliation, even though this software is prohibited from "commercial use"), without any discernable "Privacy Policy," which means that your contact information could be sold by the company on the "leads" market to unsuspecting internet marketers who think they're getting email addresses of people who want to be contacted about THEIR product or service - so brace yourself for a barrage of pure SPAM (being an online marketer myself I don't use that term loosely, but I believe it will apply in this case).

I also found the program to be quite confusing, with buttons all over the place and no clear explanation of what they do. I also take issue with the "one-click" claim, which is blatantly false!

Pickings must be getting pretty slim if this stinker is the best GOTD has to offer today. Everyone has a bad day, and I believe that by the time this one is over, that's the column this program will end up in.

I gave up half way through the installation process. To the publisher... there is a readme file with every GAOTD offering. Why don't you do everyone a huge favor and simply include the needed serial number in this file? It would save lots of people the bother and earn more good will from the users here. Everyone here greatly appreciates your offer but you need to make it easier.

Annoying installation.

When you start Setup.exe, you are greeted with a serial dialogue.

For this serial, this is what you have to do:
1. Go to http://www.filestream.com/register/frameshop-gotd-register.php
2. Fill in the form. Product name should be automatically filled in
3. Go to you email program
4. Send an empty email to: ppfm@filestream.com
5. You will receive an email with your serial
6. Copy and Paste this serial to the setup and continue setup (serial can be pasted at once)

When you start the program, you will be greeted with a 6 step wizard.

Step 1: output requirements
Strange thing: max resolution is 1024x768!?? Luckily, keep original format will work too AND there is an option to set custom resolutions.
You can also put a max. limit for total photo size output AND/OR total amount of pictures. Strange options. If it were PER PHOTO, that would have been nice.

Step 2: select multiple photos. Folder selection is NOT possible. Missed chance! I really need my mass-tools to recursive search folders. Once the photos are added, you cannot use Ctrl-A in the program itself to select all photos. One needs to work with the mouse to select (after the initial Add photos).

Step 3 Layout and Style
Actually here are a few nice options. For layout: crop photos / best fit without cropping or picture frame. For frame you can select 9 patterns. I like "Bevel" - it looks like a 3D pop-out :) There's also an option Border. To me, it's just the same option as Frame. They work on top of each other, and I can't say it works really transparent :s
With Shadow you can add an extra border to give the effect of a shaduw. In practice, this looks ugly, unless you use a size of 1.

Step 6: Create and Fix photos
Options: Recreate / Auto Level / Auto Contrast / Auto Smooth / Auto Sharpen. I'm using the default Example Photos of Windows. I enabled all options (except Recreate). Again, photos have to be selected manually. Actions are applied immediately. Extra options: Auto Colour / Blur / Old Photo / Black & White / Negative / RED EYE CORRECTION / remove colour cast. These extra options need to be applied individually in "Edit"-mode. Too bad.

Step 5: Sequence: decide which order you need.

Step 6: Send Photos
THIS IS VERY STRANGE AND A REASON FOR UNINSTALLING!
You must SEND the photos to an email address!! The program uses Internet Explorer for this! It IGNORES my Chrome! To make matters even worst, all opened IE screens were EMPTY (Internet Explorer blows such big balls :0).
To complicate matters further, the program thinks it has sent the files successfully once IE is opened. Then it ONLY allows to send again (which fails) OR TO QUIT THE PROGRAM!

This means I give up. Too bad. I still wanted to give my Thumbs Up because of some features. Also I think I would have like the export to slideshow option.

For now, I'm done and really uninstalling.

I'll repost some alternatives maybe tonight - including collection of what's suggested here.

One I should mention before signing off: http://www.irfanview.com/

Peace!

IrfanView is a great tool allowing you to resize and batch convert photos as well as many other useful features. Better still, it's free at http://www.irfanview.com/

My thoughts on first use of Filestream Frameshop:

1) Ridiculous long-winded registration program for such cheapskate software. It isn’t as thought it competes with Microsoft or Photoshop!
2) Loaded 8 photo’s and selected ‘Send Photo’s. The program crashed!
3) Loaded 15 photo’s to create a slideshow.
4) Selected basic options, no borders, no shadows, just a simple slideshow
5) Program crashed.

Windows 7 64 Bit. 6 Gig RAM

If two attempts out of two give 100% failure then there is something seriously wrong with this software.

Uninstalling immediately.

This offering has a stunningly ridiculous interface, which makes it look like it was put together by a under-talented novice programmer and compiled hastily, never going through any testing or review. The so-called "wizards" make no sense whatsoever. For starters, the program description (here on GOTD) calls for a application that "can process and resize your entire photo collection"; Yet on starting the program the choices are "Send Photos," "Export Photos," "Create Slideshow," and "Create Photo Show." There's countless illogical choices and descriptions everywhere that are totally confusing. For instance, under the drop-down field "Name your project", there are two buttons: "Copy" and "Delete." Not only does it make no sense for this field to use a drop-down, but the buttons serve no purpose at all. The description of the "send photos" wizard itself: "Send more and high quality photos..." (!) is a strong indicator that the programmer's English writing skills are on par with his/her coding skills. I could go on and on.

Add to the above that the manufacturer's website has all the features that should raise half a dozen red flags pointing to a typical scamming site, and you will probably conclude that you should avoid downloading this offering altogether. Too bad: GOTD has some really nice offerings lately from companies that are well worth supporting. This one sure isn't one of them.
