Idea: "Best of" or "Back by popular demand"

The subject of this might make the idea obvious, but maybe one week or just even one day registered users could nominate and then vote for a piece of software offered in the past that they would like to see reissued. I know some may respond to this with, "put we already have the old stuff." But, this idea is coming more for those like myself who may have missed some of the first few months not being aware of the site - OR, for those days when you weren't able to (forgot) to check and missed a day.

Also...there was piece of software awhile back called "Brutal Wars". Not sure if that is the name or not, but it was a game that also offered a Pocket PC version. Basically my idea above is stemming from that day because I missed the game and wanted to get it for my PPC - but it would also be cool if there more PC/PPC compatible software pieces available out there.

Thanks. I think this site is great.
    Thanks for your work.

I vote yes! That is an outstanding idea, if it does not create difficulties for the GAOTD team. Personally, I could use fresh copies of Flash Spring, Aston Desktop Shell and Icon Constructor (shameless hint!).

Sounds good but a nomination/vote by users would not guarantee a give away repeat.

It's not just GAOTD but also developers who determine what will be offered. If the developers didn't agree then there could be no reissue of any particular give away, despite site visitor votes. Some developers might even figure if so many people want it so badly they might just consider buying the program. ;)

There have been a couple repeats lately though.

It.is.a.figure.of.speech. No one expects a vote or nomination to guarantee repeat offers.

We know some developers peruse the forums; we suspect most do. To that end, this is just a 'wish list' (another.figure.of.speech.).

    Why bother? Read on.

Advertising budgets are often larger than R & D budgets. Offering free older versions of products we -want- allows them to post adverts for new, state-of-the-art software front and center on the GAOTD page, where they gain exposure to a world-wide audience with no cash layout from the advertising budget.

We are drawn to the free software; our interest is piqued by the advertisements. We become familiarized with the company's name.

Later, when faced with the task of purchasing a program we -need-, we are far more likely to choose a familiar name over an unknown, agreed? Now, add a 50% discount coupon, like the ones offered with the freebies; sweeten the entire deal with knowledge that the developer has OUTSTANDING customer support. The choice suddenly becomes a no-brainer.

The company makes a sale they would have otherwise missed; we are thrilled with 50% savings. We all win.

    Brilliant strategy. Simply brilliant.

No need for sarcastic use of punctuation.

Considering all the whining already going on in the comment sections do you truly believe any kind of user voting would result in no one expecting that a voting process would result in a guarantee? Or something close to a guarantee?

You would not expect such and neither would I, but I don't think either of us can speak for all site visitors.

I just stumbled into your website, and I think is a terrific way to promote new pc games. After reading all the comments for this day, let me say that some people just like to complain; if they are not getting the type games they like, that's too bad - go and buy them, but don't complain when you are getting a free game. As for my taste, I can't wait until you give away the next WORD game, because I love them; it would also be really cool if you would repeat the Key Words game and the Numericon game give away, because I am pretty sure that a lot of people that just learned about your program would love to have those two games. Keep this giveaway program alive pleeeeaaaseee!

    Hello everyone,

I support and agree with mikevelas. It would be nice to broaden the variety of games offered from time to time, by including word and puzzle games and other 'thinking' type games.

I've seen requests for these in various comments sections from other people in the past, so there's definitely a group who will embrace these happily.

Thanks for bringing that up mikevelas - good call. ;)

    Hello Bubby, ;)

Thank you very much for the links! The games look great and look as though they'd keep my mind occupied for a good while. I'm in a download frenzy now!

    Good morning GOTD! ;)

How did you like the public response to yesterday's Mahjong game? Wasn't it fantastic to see all the positive responses?

It's well known that (in general,) people love to exercise their brains in a game environment. I really hope you include some word games soon! Thank you SO much for yesterdays offer - I spent quite some time playing it last night ~ *laughs*

  13. Direct WAV MP3 Splitter v2.4
    VideoGet

Both these apps I installed and registered, then few days later (I believe my disk cleaner did it) they became unregistered.

Watermark Factory v2.55 also do a video batch watermark version, not yet been posted, I would like it if someone is reading that can sort it!

Apart from that, I would like an application that will scan my system and display all the serials to all my software that needs serials, then stores them in a backup file so I do not have to trance around searching the registry when I reinstall items, or my text documents that have them written upon becomes corrupted then I am sorted.

I really like the idea of the visitors of GOTD voting at the end of the week for the software they missed or for the software that they did not know about as they visited GOTD at a later date. I would request Premium Booster to be put as a giveaway again as I think it is a very useful program and I'm sure most people would agree with me too.

  15. @Vipersonic - I'm sure most people would agree with me too.

    Clairvoyant? Survey?

I don't agree with you. Premium booster was just a glorified registry cleaner. I uninstalled it as I found that for me it was unnecessary, and around the same time time a number of other registry cleaners were offered on GOTD. I put Registry Booster into the "me-too basket".
