Has anybody tried MyPlayCity's new game?

Earlier today MPC added a new game (number 285 if my count is correct) called "Halloween Night Riddle". It's similar to "Last Conundrum of Da Vinci" but with a single-height block. You have to "remove" every block on the board before the purple "exit" will work. Most blocks can only be "trodden on" once while some (marked as a brick) need a second step.

There are supposed to be 30 levels. I got through the first 15 with no real problem. The game flat crashes on level 16. I got to the level once or twice but "fell off" so had to restart. Now I can't even get it to show me what the level looks like before my OS gives me the "game.exe has stopped" message and the game crashes.

I have emailed MPC but I'm wondering if anybody else has tried this game and gotten past level 15.

same issue here ,i also got through the first 15.
but on level 16 the game crashes.
I got to the level twice
any solutions?plz

Thank you, Ben! That confirms it's not just me. I'm still waiting for an answer to my email to MyPlayCity but I really don't expect an answer before about Tuesday.

i personally don't play usually these kind of games(interested especially in fighting arcades) but by exception i tried this game & that was great.

Talk about shoddy support! I got an answer back from MyPlayCity (BTW the email address is a .ru) and I have never heard such off-handed denial of a problem in my life!

Their "explanation" is that not all the games are supported under all graphics cards. HUH????? This game works fine for 15 levels. That's half-way through the game. It even lets you in the game for that 16th level the first time but if you don't succeed, you can't get back and can never even see that level again (under that "player"). That's not a graphics problem.

I replied that in the one case, I KNOW a different graphics card than what I use was used. I don't know about ben osman's case. This is the worst customer support that I have seen in many years (if not THE worst ever).

You can't reply to the email you get either - it bounced! They do have a link that allows you to "update" the problem and I'm trying that. They've got my stubborn side triggered!

i see,
i also am not convinced about the graphic compatibility problem
cause i tested the game in both intel gma 3100(integrated) & the 9600gt
but in the end i obtained the same result
i rethank you dragonlair for your effort & i will try the link in their website

I have the exact same problem, and my video card is NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. I also tried it on my sisters pc, which has an NVIDIA GeForce 8600, same result. So yeah, the graphics compatibility excuse is complete BS, but given the response they gave you I'm not truly expecting them to do anything about it.

My graphics board is NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE. NVIDIA is one of the most common boards out their and if they don't support NVIDA - they've got REAL problems!

I just tried the two old standbys for Vista - compatibility mode and Admin mode. Not surprisingly, both failed. However, I did get to see the layout before it switched to 'loading'.

There is obviously something wrong in the specifications for level 16 that is causing the problem but, as a long-time (but rather inactive) programmer - I know how hard it is to get another programmer to admit they've got an error.

Too many programmers never learned Chandler's Law - The only completely debugged program is the one no longer in use!

I think I found the problem!

In the game folders is an "Interface" folder with a bunch of "levelintxxx.int files (xxx varies by the level). They are text files. I looked at levels 15, 16 and 17.

They all start with (except for the level number):

levelint15
main.tga,1024,1024
light,off,4,-4,4,1,0.5,1

Levels 15 and 17 follow that with pairs of "[window]" and "plate" lines. Level 16 ends after that "Light,off" line above! It is being over-written by the program because it has today's date where the others do not.

If they try to give me a brush-off again, I think I'll have a few answers for them! It's still a programming error - the data file should NOT be over-written like this but it says there may be a way to restore the file (by a re-install) to get it back and then SAVE the blasted thing to put it back!

Well, I got the response for my second message what I expected the first time. It still doesn't help and I'll probably remove the game until I get verification that the problem has been fixed (how will they tell anybody?)

Now they say they passed my information on to the developer.

What gets me is ANY "player" can get to it the first time - it's when they fail that data is destroyed. Why this one level is beyond me.

I have never had any malware problems with myplaycity. I always decline the toolbar and so forth and have worked around the initial (initial only) ad. The only hiccup with games from this site (as with GameTop and FreeGamePick) is the game opens your browser to it's home site when you exit. It does NOT hijack your home page, it simply opens to that site. Since half the games you get elsewhere (such as Alawar and PopCap) open a window upon exit (not the browser), it's not much different. I just close it and go on my way.

Also, I just did a WOT check on the site and it has a GREEN rating! It has the highest ratings possible on Trustworthiness, Vendor Reliability and Privacy. In fact the ONLY difference I see in the WOT rating of this site and MyPlayCity is the Privacy rating here is a slightly darker shade of green!

They fixed it! I got an email today telling me I could download the corrected version. I just tried it. I had totally removed the old one (yesterday). I got to level 16, failed and it went right back to it. I backed out and then went back in. I don't guarantee that there are not other data problems but they at least seem to have fixed this problem!

They started out bad but the customer service turned out to be pretty good. I did NOT expect an email when the problem was fixed!

Aww, I lost out on the chance to fix it myself. Did they update the version on their website?

(Now if I just visit this place more often...)

The email I got said to download the corrected version. They have changed the build on the website. As far as I can tell, they only changed the one file - level15.lvl. All the others are dated 10/18/10 and that one is 10/28/10!

I have 20 games from MyPlayCity (including this - now corrected - new one) and not a single one has had any complaint about any malware!

I do decline any mention of toolbar or anything like that. I also change the shortcut to avoid an initial ad and I remove unneeded files from each game.

I am running a special Avira check for all the games. The results are:

Best way to avoid the junk: extract installer with innounp, delete all .url, .ico (though you might want the alternative game icon, if applicable), delete the FireFox folder, and any other useless stuff.

GMMan, A+ Certified Tech (and Game Hacker) Think that the way to go I did scan with AV & Antispyware it said all ok but was not ok, I do decline all toolbar's free or not free addons not just game's but wallpaper allso only get .jpg no to .exe
