Could not locate date this was on giveawayoftheday. Downloaded and installed w/o a problem. In past few days getting a pop-up asking me to register, and today got a pop-up something like "Only 10 more uses left". Maybe I did something incorrectly when I installed it. Anyone know anything about these pop-ups?

Hi SeniorCitizen,I am not 100% certain on this but fairly sure that Moosoft, the makers of the cleaner disabled the registry code. This was because the code worked with the new version, the cleaner 2011,they had to disable It.
The code was leaked to a lot of warez sites and other sites and would have cost moosoft a lot of money in licenses so Moosoft decided that they had no choice, they did offer any-one who got the cleaner2010 from give-away of the day a new code to use,but again this proved unworkable because they could not know who had downloaded and who didnt.
So to sum up.You most likely did Install correctly and the registry code that had worked has now been disabled, turning the cleaner 2010 into a trail again,I think you may as well uninstall It because after you use It 10 more times It will be totally useless.Posted 14 years ago # -
Thank you for the explanation, judydog. I went to control panel; removed The Cleaner. Re-started my computer.
I GIVE UP !! In the 2 USB-holes in the front of my computer I have 2 Flashies inserted. AGAIN my computer is not recognizing these drives. I don't understand what, if anything, I am doing wrong.
... and with the Avir AntiVir pop-up driving me nuts, I'm really going nutsy. In the decade plus I'm using a computer I've never had so many computer-related problems. ... and so goes life.

If you mean the avira pop-up that keeps telling you to upgrade to the paid version, there Is a small program you can download to stop that all together,It was on softpedia the other week,If you want to check It out here Is the link.

Thank you again, judydog. Have downloaded NoNotifyAvira and will install it. Funny, just as this screen opened the Avira Notifyer popped up for the gazillionth time today. I'll let you know tomorrow if the NoNotifyAviro works. Again, thanks for your help.

The Cleaner got deactivated by the developer. I had a thread that talked about how to bypass its activation check, though I'm not sure if it will work on the latest version of 2010. It's easy to reset the use count, just change the value corresponding to "x" (the first line) in The Cleaner's config file.

Hi GMMan,yes changing the value does still work even on the 2011 version.

Tried to install NoNOtifyAvira and they asked if I'm using Avira Classic 8, Avira Desktop 9, and something else. Am using Avira FREE (!) so wasn't sure what to do. So I removed NoNotify and removed Avira from my computer.
Downloaded AVG Virus (whatever) however, tomorrow will research virus protection software (free and purchaseable) and get one. I do NOT need email protection as I have it. I do NOT want to be reminded to UPDATE. I want to be left alone by software and reminders, if you know what I mean. I would like NICE, SIMPLE, UNDERSTANDABLE software. That works. Period.
Also, as mentioned earlier, I use what I call E & F drives. Well, today I don't have my "F" drive, but do have a "G" drive. Never had a "G" before! LOL.

Avira just released version 10. It has both free and "premium" versions. The free will look for updates daily (if the default settings are there) and the only way you know that an update has happened is a BIG splash screen ad asking you to upgrade to "premium". Just close it and go on!
It's about the only thing that I let update itself. I don't even let Windows update itself. I allow them to check for updates and then ask me. I just got a notice that Windows wanted to do a "cumulative security" update for IE8 (8.8 MB). I said OK but it had to ASK first!

Hi seniorcitizen, sorry to hear you uninstalled avira,In my opinion you have Installed something a lot worse than a pop-up,AVG,sorry but dont like It.
You would be better off with the free one from microsoft, called microsoft essentials,It Is getting good reviews, and I have Installed It on a few machines for people and It seems to be good at what It does without you having to babysit It all the time.Posted 14 years ago # -
Try Avast. The latest version's interface is pretty good, and registration is free.

still ok just put in the # and it OK update and working good did you try put in the # from the readme.
If they say that "Unfortunately the Giveaway of the Day code was stolen and distributed to warez sites so we had to disable it." that is all the time, may be they need give new # as per user?
I can not give the name of the warez sites as per rules.Posted 14 years ago #
