I have a licensed version of spyware doctor (through some 90 day free thing) anyway I would like to know how it is possible to remove that information from the registry or whatever in order to use the free version.

    http://pack.google.com/intl/en/product_info.html?sd&2.1.810.31257

Which I know is a crippled version, but I rather be using the crippled version of the program because I also have Webroot Spysweeper 5.3 running. Thank you.

  2. Michelle,

You could contact customer support and ask how to do this. I expect doing a full uninstall and reinstalling the free version might be all that is needed.

I already did that uninstall and install the free version (did that a couple times), but it remembers my license information. I tried to route through the registry myself and I deleted a key to it but there might be more than one key that has to be deleted that remembers it.

I'm really wondering if that really is free (or just a free trial). It would be nice if someone here installs it if they don't have spyware doctor installed and see what it is. Thank you.

Sorry,...just missed your post Do you have a Registry Cleaner? Uninstall the program then run the cleaner. Reg Mechanic have a free online scanner - I'll see if I can locate it.

Uninstall the program as normal and then download and install Registry Ripper

    http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptregrip.asp

Use it to scan for all instances of "Doctor" and the delete the references to Spyware Doctor. Then install the version you want.

I have Registry Mechanic, but I don't think that is going to work. Besides I download spycatcher express (free, but it does have false positives). You have to be very careful what you delete. I am only going to use it as an on demand scanner, found stuff others missed.

Be careful if you download and install it.

Good - Saved a 'Super Search'!! Grrrrr, thanks but no thanks on that one. I'm maxed-out on anti-spyware.

Michelle, RM should find all instances of registry entries from an un-installed program.

Which version do you have? If it is 5 or 6, try it.

I didn't try to get it with Registry Mechanic, didn't even bother running a scan with RM. I have Registry Mechanic 5 (which I got for free through some promotion). I also use Privacy Guardian. I also use that for free (might put a link around here somewhere how to get that for free)

So are you standing there with your arms crossed, stomping one foot into the ground, and screaming, "No! I'm not gonna run it..If I wanna run it, I'll run it when I feel like it."?

    Whaahaahaa, poor diddums.

Sorry, RM=Registry Mechanic, not RegMon.."sniff grmbl".

OH P.S. I don't know whether you only HAVE Reg Mech., or if you have it and have used it before, but you can just scan without doing an auto repair.
That allows you to exit without making auto changes to the registry. Manual scan - You check what you want to delete and hit 'repair'. You can also do a restore as it saves a backup of your registry,..just in case.

No, it's not really a big deal that I can't run Spyware Doctor (free edition).

I registered for the pctools forum. I had to pm the moderator my license information, being that the license I received was a free license, I just sent him the e-mail from pc tools about two months ago when I got the license. I think everyone has to do that I guess before they give you the license removal tool.

Got the free version up and running, imo it isn't as good as webroot spysweeper. I think it is a lot slower and I am only using it for on demand scanning and removal (if it removes), but at least they have a free version. Webroot Spysweeper really doesn't, I only get to use it free because I am a msn member.

Well, good that you got it running. Funny thing is, I had an opportunity to get it free today, as part of a package. So I checked some security forums and found several people uninstalling because it bogged down system resources. Perhaps they were using 386's? haha! But it seems a common theme.

Webroot is doing the job here. It may just be a case of 'less is more', with the right combination of tools.

Thanks for the McAfee site advisor link. I put it on Firefox and IE. Interesting to see what it came up with - Desktop wallpaper sites are pure evil.

  16. With multiple antivirus tools - I would only recommend having one tool with "Real-time" scanning/protection active.

Additional tools should only be used for "on demand" scanning/protection.

    Thanks BuBBy...

I bought Webroot without anti-virus as I already run Norton Security.
Hey, I got a free Win Washer with Spysweeper - Nice proggie with DOD x3, NSA x7, Guttman x35 and Random x1-100 washes. Also does disk free space clean and total erase from a bootable.

Wolven just look at the pctools forum. A lot of people are having problems with the 5.0 version (and you are right it seems buggy). My system was running so slow when the real time protection was on.

I received privacy guardian free also. I also have registry mechanic 5 also free through some promotion. I really can't complain about PcTools (although I wouldn't use their antivirus). They have a free antivirus version and a free firewall.

They both do a pretty good job. I can't complain they were free.

I wouldn't say that, it depends what program is free. I do go around and look for free stuff from time to time, software and stuff. I received Ace Html 6 Pro free a few months ago

    http://software.visicommedia.com/en/partners/acehtmlpro/register.php?idre=dynamicdrive

    Promo Code:dynamicdrive

See if it still works and you can still get it for free. Not sure if it will but doesn't hurt to try.

Lol for a moment there I thought you called me a freeware idiot, lol.

    Michelle,

Haha! Site Alert and WOT are throwing up red flags at Visicom Media for Adware-WhenU and Adware-Url. Users are saying some of their downloads are packaged with WhenU. Quickie question: When you setup Ace Html 6 Pro, did it ask if you would like to install WhenU toolbar/software? I'm tired of removing that rubbish - Quite often you can say, "No thanks, I don't want to install your grubware", then sure enough when you check later, there it is on your machine anyway.

I'll head over to PC Tools forum now - Wish me luck keeping my eyelids open..."yawn!".
Meantime, if you run across a site promo offering 'free sleep', you know where to find me.

Good luck, yeah I know, now it gives you a choice to install the toolbar (or the last time I installed it did). A lot of people were complaining about that since it isn't free.

I don't have it installed right now. I use to be into that web creation stuff a couple years ago, but since it was free I thought I might as well take advantage of it. I think it is like almost $70.

Good luck on the pc tools forum.

lol..PC Tools forum..lol! Some of those comments are classics,.."This software is a virus",..."This program is a wrecking ball"..Whaahaahaa!

It just seems that SD5 has more bugs than Return Of The Mummy. I've found similar comments on other boards. It does not say much for PC Tools, to continue pushing the product without a bug-fix in sight. Unless your SD5 is running well, I would turn it off and wait for the next update/fix.

About WhenU - Grrrr, that junk really shrinks my shorts! Until recently you could always remove it, and similar adware, without problem. Lately I have setup a few progs, removed WhenU and the parent program refuses to run until I reinstall WhenU.
Well, Cya later parent program...There are generally comparable freeware proggies available without that rubbish attached.

    P.S. So where's the fire?

Lol, yes I do have Spyware Doctor off. My computer really runs slow with it on.

Lol you know who I am on that board. ffwfire, I got the name from a Metallica song. Fight fire with fire, the song is off of Metallica's Ride The Lightning Album.

Wolven I did take it off though because I noticed a major slowdown on my computer even though I took the real time protection off.
