    Thanks, Merri.

I googled and found the same thing. I think I want to try it.

My friend on the EMS board said the same thing - they picked a popular one and got overloaded. I'll keep trying.

Does anybody know where they are based? I would like to know their timezone.

Dragonlair, as Wizz stated previously, they are in Bothell, WA which is just NE of Seattle so west coast time.

Site is currently working. I just downloaded.

I always though Glyph was a decent match three game. It's slightly different from your usual match three. The graphics are sumptious and the game play easy to medium difficulty (IMO). I didn't find it as riveting as games like Treasures of Montezuma or 4 Elements, but it's got something that makes it worth downloading in my opinion.

I like Glyph a lot; I remember playing a trial of it, so I'm very happy to get this one. But I am wondering, do you have to install these the week they are offered, or does the registration code continue to work. (I've not much room at the moment.)

I just got it, too. Except for the slight inconvenience of having that "play" window before and after the game (similar to the Alawar games from Gamebox), there were no headaches and no toolbar! I simply had to register to "purchase" it. I even got the unlock code before I got the email receipt. It was on the same page as the download!

Scarlet, I haven't tested, of course, but I suspect that the unlock code will continue to work long after the week. Like the freebies from Big Fish, it acts as a "true" purchase and you can use the unlock codes whenever.

Just for info, does anybody know if there's a way to bypass that "Play" window? I checked if there were any hidden files (and there weren't). It seems to be built into the main executable.

If anybody has any ideas around that, please post. It's minor but I would prefer not having that extra overhead.

    thanks for a great link!

I just tried to download Glyph, and Avast blocked the download, saying it contained the virus Win32. I submitted a "false positive" report to Avast, because shortly after I first installed Avast, it identified two games already on my PC (both of which had come from GGotD) as containing Win32. Both games had been on my system for a while and had passed scans by other AV and anti-malware products, so I submitted the files Avast claimed were infected with Win32 to the online scanner Virus Total, which ran them past a whole array of antivirus programs. Only Avast and one or two others said they were infected/possibly infected; all the others said they were clean. Eventually, after I submitted the "false positive" report to Avast, they changed their definitions file so that it no longer flagged those two games.

If anyone else has Avast and it blocks the download, I'm thinking it's a false positive. If anyone else has Avast and it does not flag the Glyph download, I'd be interested to know that. I suppose that would suggest that there is something particular to the file I was downloading that had been altered, though I doubt that's the case.

Avira checks it out clean. A manual scan of the downloaded file says it's an "archive" with 1571 files within it. A scan of the installed program was also clean. I suspect you're hitting a false positive.

However, since you can't download it, it may be difficult to report. With Avira, I have to send them the file (a trick when the file is over 8 MB). How can you do that if you can't download it in the first place?

    Dragonlair,

go to the following file and create a shortcut from it.

    "C:\Program Files\Glyph\bin\prog.exe"

This is a hidden file as it's icon is slightly grayed out.

Thanks, Dolores. I knew there had to be a way! I figured it was a hidden file trick but never thought to look in the other folders!

Actually, in my case it's Activity\Zprod\Games\Sandlot\Glyph\Bin. I never use Program Files unless there is a REAL pressing need (usually the reason is I don't have a choice).

    Dragonlair,

I'm glad to be able to give something back. I had been putting games in c:/games folder but I guess I got lazy and let the installers use their default folders. Staying organized is not a strength of mine.

Maud, I have Avast and yes it DID flag the Glyph game so I simply turned Avast off, downloaded the game, then scanned it after it was installed.
Nothing came up, it was apparently clean so I could run it while playing the game with no problems...

(I wonder if the NAME "Glyph" somehow triggered the false positive?)

Remember when Avast was flagging Big Fish games as threats?
I guess it is just a learning curve for any anti virus program...

    Dolores,

"Organized" is my middle name. :) I even keep a log of my installs (not just games), a spreadsheet and other documentation of tricks I learn.

I did let M&R Tech products (PCStitch line of programs) install into Program Files\Hobbies\ because I had so much trouble getting the Pattern Libraries to work when I went to Vista. I never did figure out what was wrong. I just finally got it to work!

Your trick worked so great I tried to see if it would work for Alawar games as well. It doesn't. Has anybody figured out how to bypass that "Play" window for Alawar games? I would be SO grateful!

Merri - Thanks, I will do as you did. I have been thinking about switching from Avast to Microsoft Security Essentials, about which I have heard good things, before my Avast registration needs to be renewed shortly. But doing what you did will allow me to download Glyph without needing to get the other done first as well.

Dragonlair - Thanks for the info. I did report the false positive without actually sending the file since, as you said, I don't have it. Avast flagged the download during its course, and there is a button to click on the alert which brings up a window where you can enter info about the download that you think is being flagged incorrectly. It may be something they check out only if they get a lot of such reports; I don't know. On the previous game files they flagged which were already on my PC, I was able to send them the files and they did, after a few weeks, change their definitions so those files were no longer flagged, but an offer like this one would no longer be available by the time that had occurred.

That's true about no longer being available Maud, but once you have the registration code they provide on the checkout before you download, you'll own a copy. You could always come back and download later once they've sorted the false-positive.

    Maud,
I have Avast and it did not block Glyph. It downloaded and registered smoothly. I downloaded at 8:20am EST on 11/25/09. They may have changed something by now.

My A-Squared Anti-Malware flagged the uninstall today for Glyph, but I'm chalking it up as false-positive.

It, in reality, is NOT a false positive. You set A2 to detect "Hidden Files/Programs"(I did also) and it did it's job. It detected the Hidden exe in the bin folder. It is up to your discretion as to allow it or not. And that is probably what Avast did also. I use Avira and it didn't detect it.(Which scares me.)

It also tries to set up something in Startup(per Startup Monitor) but I denied it. Sorry I didn't notice what it was as I got interrupted in the setup by the hubby and I just clicked "Deny".

First, Thanks everyone for the links and the info. I'm having a problem that no one has mentioned yet.

I downloaded and installed 'Glyph' with no problem, but am having trouble unlocking it. I entered the Activation Code and got:

"Unable to find part of the game filename error (-15)."

I hit OK, since I had installed to my 'Games' folder and thought (hoped?) it would work itself out. Then I got:

"Unexpected unlock key error (-22). System is not configured correctly."

Again, I hit OK and got - Nowhere!

I tried their "Need Help?" which I did - but found nothing useful except the opportunity to send it to Customer Support - which I did, but then wondered if perhaps you guys could help faster/better (and, you know, with more love!)

So the bottom line is - I still need help and hope there's some out there...

    Face,

Did you type in the unlock code or COPY it from your receipt email? These things are so tricky that you should always use the copy/paste method. Be VERY careful not to get anything in front of or behind the actual code.

Delenn, Uninstall.exe is not a hidden file. Why would it flag that file if it's not hidden? It did flag the hidden prog.exe file. Virustotal.com lists the file as being malicious in 53.66% of the A-V programs used to test it. Sounds a bit too mixed to me. I think for the sake of "better safe than sorry," I'll uninstall this one or at least try quarantining the file and seeing if it had any effect on the game.

Aha I've found Face's problem. Without the prog.exe file in place, I get their error word for word. Did your A-V flag the file and you quarantined?

OneNita - you're right, the newest Avast definitions don't block Glyph for me anymore, either! Thanks for the tip.

wizzard_of_ozz - you're right, too! I should have remembered that since I have my receipt/unlock code, I would be able to download later.

delenn13 - I can't speak to A2, but Avast wasn't flagging a hidden file. It specifically alerted to the presence of the Win32 virus which, as I said in my first post, it has done to 2 other game files in the past, and both of those were false positives, also. Still, better safe than sorry, even at the cost of the occasional false positive.

Well, Glyph had quite a lot of work for Kaspersky, 190 lines only in the "Activity Filter", but at the same time there were lots of items even in other logs - but they are not clearly named.
The first attempt to install the game was stopped by Kaspersky, I had to change the rules first.
Wiz, I PMed you the log file. Just for your information.

Here's the VirusTotal report for prog.exe if anyone is wondering.

Sorry, Wizz. It only flagged the "prog.exe" for me..twice. And like I said, it did try to install something for "Startup".

Yes, Maude, it is better to be safe than sorry.

I am gonna run a few proggies tonight and see if anything pops up, especially after what Lady Grey said.

And I guess I am gonna add to my arsenal, IceSword , referred by Raymond. IceSword Displays Processes and Files Hidden from Windows Explorer I will set it up and see how it compares to WinPatrol's list of hidden files.

I just got an e-mail that they are offering 25% off all of their games if you use a code. Sale ends 11/30/2009 at 12:01 AM PST.

Has anyone heard anything more about that prog.exe file in Glyph? I've got it safely quarantined (Comodo Inet Security called it "Unclassified Malware"), and have a report in to Sandlot Customer Support (including a link to the Virus Total report, thanks to Wizzard). Several people reported problems with the file on the Sandlot Glyph forum:

    http://www.sandlotgames.com/w5/component/option,com_agora/Itemid,7/id,492/p,1/task,topic/#p3769

but the moderator didn't seem to think it was a big deal...

New game for the week is:

Snail Mail, which you can get once you've signed in or created a free account. The link to the game is on the front page which can be found HERE, It's a racing game on the lines of Star Racing which is always free from Gametop. You can get Star racing HERE

Also Gametop now have a new racing game which is also on similar lines to this called Sky Track. It has better looking graphics than Snail Mail.

Gametop games always open up your browser when you close the game down, but don't have any in game advertising like you get with gamehouse games. also make sure any tick boxes are unchecked during installation otherwise you may get toolbars and your home page changing. Still a worthwhile download though. You can get it HERE

I found out too late that they had a big sale today. Different games were 50% off. The titles changed every hour. They announced it via Facebook. I was actually thinking of getting Kuros so I'm bummed I missed it. Maybe they'll do it again tomorrow but I doubt it.

Darn they were supposed to end at 5:30 PST so I stopped checking and now I see they offered Kuros again until 6:30. I guess it was just not meant to be.
