Yeah I noticed they had got Alpha Centauri. I gave the original away some time ago. It was available on several of the abandonware sites for free until GOG got their hands on it. Personally I always preferred the original Civilization to Alpha Centauri. For some reason I could never quite get into it the same way I did with Civilization. That said, if it's selling for the lower price (usually $5.99, then it's worth getting. (I've not seen what they are selling it for yet)?

The full price for Alpha Centauri and Crusader:NR is $5.99 each. These are both great games. Like WR, I liked the original Civ (or at least 2 & 3 which were more the same time period better than Alpha Centauri. That said, there are others that preferred AC and I agree it was a great game. I also really like Crusader: NR. Great buys!

Thanks for posting graylox. GOG are still one of my favorite destinations. i'm looking forwards to seeing what other EA titles they are harbouring. (I've got my fingers crossed for a few titles)
I think I'll certainly get Duke Nukem: Manhatten Project. I got the latest when it was released last week and was rather shocked when I found myself peeing into a urinal at the very start of the game, then I grabbed some poo from the toilet and spread it around; it landed with a rather disgusting splotch and left an evil looking smear wherever it was thrown.
Definitely not the opening to a game I would have expected. Looks like the developer or the distributor are trying to garner notoriety, which inevtably leads to more sales. It's definitly a game you shouldn't be letting your kids play because there's also explicit nudity involved in the game. Nothing wrong with that, but definitely not for the young ones. The earlier games are pretty violent things also so it may be an idea to keep the kids away from those as well. You can get some of the earlier Duke Nukem games, including one of the 3D ones for free via the free games synopsis.
you'll find Duke Nuken 1, 2, and 3D HERE

Summer Hidden Gems: Celtic Kings: Rage of War 60% off

Your family is dead, a piece of “collateral damage” in Rome’s war continual against the Gauls. This game is an innovative RTS that dares to do things differently. There are two modes to this game: the strategic and the adventure. Summer Hidden Gems: Ground Control + Expansion 60% off
.

.
Yeah, I saw it on your face as soon as we pulled up. At first glance, I’ll admit, Krig 7-b seems like a worthless little dustball, doesn’t it? Okay, okay. At second and third glance, too. But what I’m trying to tell you is: sure the planet’s a bit of a fixer-upper, but it’s got history, man. History in spades!
Look, back in the 25th century, this place was a happening little ball of mud. One of the largest battles in the Xenofact Wars was fought right here. And here’s the deal: in addition to getting this planet at the kind of price where I’m cutting my own throat to sell it you, I’m also going to throw in a fully interactive historical simulation of the whole campaign.
That’s right, don’t think of those craters and trenches as “ugly eyesores.” No, siree. Think of ‘em as “adding character.” Here’s the dilly-yo: For a ridiculous price of $2.39, you get the historical simulation Ground Control and the follow up to that, which is called “Dark Conspiracy.” And I’ll throw in the planet with it, too, because you look like nice folks. You have the opportunity to re-enact the battles between Crayven Industries and the Order of the New Dawn with a completely controllable camera in a 3-D environment. So you can see what the place looked like, you know, back in the day. Before they blew holes all through the place.
It’s a real time strategy game, see, and one of the interesting features about this piece of software is that it places a strong emphasis on tactical placement. Your units will shoot each other, if you’re not careful, and the heavier units, like tanks, are very vulnerable to damage to their sides and rear, so you need to position them carefully for maximum damage and survivability.
This tells an awesome story, man, filled with epic battles, treacherous betrayals, dark conspiracies, and heroic sacrifices. That’s a kind of history that you just can’t match, buying some pokey old planet in the inner Core with all of the trimmings and fixings. Sure, this planet hasn’t been redecorated since the Dawnies nearly blew it up, but that just means you can put your own mark on this, and turn this planet into a home.
Now what do I have to do in order to get you to sign the paperwork to get this sale started? This deal’s only good today, man, so you better act fast. And if this ain’t your style, man, no worries. Check back in tomorrow and see what’s for sale here. The prices are so low it’s like I’m giving these away!
Except I’m not, you know. Except, like, in exchange for money.
.

.
What's cool about it:
Includes the original Ground Control along with it's expansion Dark Conspiracy
A unique mix of strategy and action elements with an intuitive interface
An epic campaign with a great storylineOverview:
In the year 2419 war has been outlawed on Earth and has moved to the stars. Across of colonized worlds the Mega-corps fight endless battles for control of desperately needed land and resources. Two competing corporations have gone to war over a distant world.
You thought that this battle for Krig-7b was just another brushfire war in the long standing dispute between Crawen Industries and Order of the New Dawn. But this time it would be different...
Your reputation as a brilliant military tactician and fearless leader has not gone unnoticed. Your employer, Craven Industries has chosen you to command an army of ground and air forces begin deployed to the distant world of Krig-7b. Victory is your only objective.
Multiplayer notice: Because WON.net is no longer operating, playing over the Internet is no longer possible. Playing through a LAN is still available.

Summer Hidden Gems: Dark Reign + Expansion
.

.
Today we have uncovered a hardcore RTS hidden gem ;) Dark Reign® + Expansions is really the true, real RTS you’d want to play. A lot of innovative features were so hardcore that the modern games of today are using the pseudocasual counterparts.
First and foremost the whole setting, the new Hard Sci-Fi world that was created for Dark Reign is unique. You are the lone survivor of the Tograns, a human faction whose homeworld was devoured by a brutal civil war between the Freedom Guard and the Imperium. Now you have to be victorious in battle simulations of some of the famous battles between those two. If you prove yourself, you’ll get a chance to use an advanced probe launcher to go back in time and save the Togran’s leader and scientist Alpheus Togra, thus saving the whole civilization. The expansion pack adds a second campaign involving the Imperium, a rogue AI, and a secret research facility ;)
Dark Reign is full of innovations, it’s the one of the first RTS games to use fully 3D models and terrain that impact physics and damage. Fast paced action obliged the design team to drop the Fog of War system and implemented a Line of Sight that changes with the terrain elevation and the landscape. The two sides are totally heterogeneous in terms of design and units, and speaking of the units. To minimise micro-management which can be a chore with this many units and fast paced RTS action a new system was implemented, you can set the general attitude of your individual units. This regulates their rules of engagement and eagerness to fight. Top that with a simple and reliable waypoint system and you get the picture of how deep the gameplay is. All of that is driven by one of the best soundtracks in the history of RTS.
Buy it now only for $3.99 today and check out one of the best RTS games of all time!
.

.
What's cool about it:
The pack contains Dark Reign®: The Future of War and its expansion, Dark Reign®:The Rise of the Shadowhand.
Many mods and impressively polished unofficial patches created by a still very active community.
Complex AI mechanic allows you to create and execute unique strategies.Overview:
A colossal war between the Imperium and Freedom Guard is annihilating your world. To save your civilization, you must enter the heart of an empire at war. Command over 35 units with specific orders and deploy suicide bombers, hostage takers, saboteurs and more. Use precisely calculated battlegrounds to your strategic advantage and play against a highly responsive and unpredictable AI that detects and adjusts intelligently to your tactics. Vanquish the military powers to alter the destiny of a galaxy.
Age requirements: PEGI Rating: 7+ with Violence.

Summer Hidden Gems: Independence War Deluxe
.
Today is the last day for our Hidden Gems Summer Extravaganza! To celebrate today's hidden gem, we're adding soundtracks, artworks, wallpapers, and a reference card to Independence War Deluxe's bonus content. We've also added soundtracks to Independence War 2's bonus materials today. Pick that game up while you're at it for double the rockin' soundtrack awesomeness.
.
Dear Smartypants McAdviceColumnist;
I am looking to pursue a career as a commander of an interstellar dreadnought. What should I do to train myself in preparation? I am 12.
--Starstruck
P.S.
What did you do to make your mother hate you so much she named you "Smartypants McAdviceColumnist"?Dear Starstruck;
The studious youth looking to command a space ship across the interstellar lanes of space is probably doomed to a life of bitter disappointment and alcoholism, but with that proviso in place I would recommend that you investigate sophisticated simulations like such as "Independence War Deluxe". With Newtonian physics and a realistic flight model, this simulation brings a level of realism unseen in the space fighter sim market. As it turns out, controlling a wallowing space turkey armed to the teeth with particle beams is a more complicated endeavor than flying around in your space superiority fighter, and the skills you would learn from this game would prepare you well for your career.
Although horrible little children who mock others' names are more likely to find themselves in dull jobs like "Xeno-Accountant" or "Spacesuit Protein Spill Recovery Expert".
A complex storyline and branching mission structure combine with respectable graphics and a UI that helps make sense of the intricate issues that a space commander would need to balance help even terrible people like you feel in command of their hollow lives or, at least, the simulation.
Basically, I am suggesting that you pick up Independence War Deluxe for just $2.39, as the happy times that you spend pretending that you have a future will soon be eclipsed by the bleak despair of a grey and dull life wasted.
Best of Luck, Starstruck!
--Smartypants MsAdviceColumnist

I remember these classics. They were the game to play in its day.
I would love to pick all these up just to have them. To bad for me its the wrong time, got enough on one card to buy one though. Think itl be the latest one out with more graphics.Zork in the start use to be on 5 1/4 floppies, I never played the later games.
By the way you can get Zork 1,2,3 for free here http://www.infocom-if.org/downloads/downloads.html and play Zork online here http://thcnet.net/zork/index.php

GOGs is having a sale celebrating GamesCon. All prices are 40% off regular price and can be purchased individually at that price. You don't have to purchase a bundle as you sometimes do to get the lowest price. The games included are:
$29.99 - The Witcher 2
$3.99 - Jagged Alliance 1
$5.99 - Jagged Alliance 2
$5.99 - Battle Isle Platinum
$3.59 - Realms of Arkania 1 and 2
$3.59 - Realms of Arkania 3
$3.59 - Master of Orion 1+2Of course The Witcher 2 is the headliner since it is a well received (87 on Metacritic) recent AAA title. I already bought it, but haven't got around to playing it yet. I knew I could get it cheaper later, but wanted to support GOG so don't feel bad about this. Battle Isle Platinum was on my list to buy so I am glad to see it (6 games for $6). I already own boxed version (somewhere in my office or in the basement) of several if not all of these and also have copies of several that I got from Abandonware sites. Despite that I will be getting these. I also already have some of the others (as well as boxed versions).

The great EA classics are back!
Here are the first two - 6 more are announced.
.
New release: Dungeon Keeper 2
The Evil is back! Thanks to the sequel to the acclaimed Dungeon Keeper you can be even nastier.
Dungeon Keeper 2 is Bullfrog’s second take on the masterpiece blend of real-time strategy with elements of sim, RPG and first person action game. Once again you take the role of the main Bad Guy. You have to build an underground empire, set deadly traps, recruit armies of brainless minions, and show the good-natured (bleh!) heroes where their place is: six feet under! And with even greater selection of traps and monsters it's now easier than ever. So train your army well (or slap them into submission) to expand your evil empire from the undergrounds to the realms above.

..
What's cool about it:
Sequel to a timeless classic that takes all what is good from its predecessor and further improves it with new, brilliant, ideas
Highly addictive gameplay includes: managing on micro and macro level, personally possessing your creatures, and slapping chickens
Still unmatched masterpiece, a true multi-genre cross-over done rightOverview:
Discover your evil side as you build your own underground kingdom. Carve out a living, breathing world and attract a host of devilish creatures to swell the ranks of your dark hoards. Form an alliance with the Horned Reaper and expand your empire in your quest to reach the daylight and invade the realms above.
Dungeon Keeper 2 is everything its predecessor was, only better and badder! It is probably one of the most addictive and fun games ever created; with tons of dark humor, smooth gameplay, and high replayability value. In addition to that there is a well designed multiplayer mode and a pet-dungeon module that tests your ability to build the ultimate underground labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and other hellish devices. If you liked Dungeon Keeper you will love this ultimate installment of the series.

New release: Wing Commander 1+2
The time has come to relieve the beginnings of one of the best space flight simulators saga ever created.
Wing Commander 1+2 is a pack containing the first two parts of the acclaimed space flight and combat simulator series by Origin. With this bundle you’ll get an introduction to the epic military conflict between The Confederation and the Kilrathi. Although the war between humans and Kilrathi has lasted for 20 years already, you're just making your presence. As a young pilot, straight from the academy, you’ll either become humanity’s biggest hero or the biggest zero as you're posted on Confederation's flagship - Tiger's Claw. With a cinematic approach to the storytelling and great 3D gameplay, the Wing Commander series is a must-have for every self-respecting gamer.
Don't miss to read the comments about missing expansions and sound problems.

.

.
What's cool about it:
The classic of classics, grandfather for a new genre, and an example that was followed by all future space sims
One of the best dynamic soundtracks ever to appear in a video game
The branching storyline's shape is based on your successes or failures; you will never have to replay a failed missionOverview:
You may be the hottest pilot in the fleet, but this will cool your jets! In Wing Commander you blast your way through the Vega Campaign. You’d better be as good as your reputation because the stakes are too high to play it safe. Just when you think that the action can’t get any more intense, or the opposition any stiffer, you’ll plunge into Wing Commander II. Disgraced and unjustly court-martialed, you have to prove yourself once again and earn the respect of the Confederation High Command. Of course, there is also the little matter of preventing the destruction of the Terran home-worlds.
Age requirements: ESRB Rating: EVERYONE with Animated Violence.
Minimum system requirements: Windows XP or Windows Vista, 1.8 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), 2GB HDD, Mouse, Keyboard.

PS: This picture was always an eye-catcher for me, though I wasn't much interested in this kind of games - now I'm tempted to buy the game just for this pic (when there is any money left sometime...)

Great memories! Thanks graylox. It will be interesting to see the other six.

Yeah, loved these early games, though I think the price for Wing Commander 1 & 2 is a little steep. Those games are 20 years old now and although the basic game play is there you can get much better ones such as Freespace 1 & 2 (12 & 11 years old respectively both cost $5.99). plus Darkstar One (5 years old cost $9.99), all three games are briliant.
That said I'd purchase it just for old times sake. :)
