The programm installed correctly. Has "Account = giveawayoftheday", "Expiration Date = [Blank]", and has a licence code.

    Problem:

It doesn't update, neither automatically, neither manually. It still uses the databasee dated the day it was downloaded and installed. When I tried to manually update it, I got the next message: "Your subscription license has expired! Please click here to renew your license and get full funcion."
    The link directs me to
    http://www.iobit.com/AdvancedWindowsCarePersonal/upgradenow.html
where I'm invited to subscribe the Professional version. How can this be possible. Could anyone tell me what to do?

    Regards

  2. Yeah, that was some scam software. It seems most GOTD software is becoming like that. You can't get db updates from the software.

Actually that what's it supposed to do. It's in most readme that says you cannot update your software.

  4. The difference is with most of the programs you can continue to use the old version forever.

They don't just suddenly switch off functionality and start hassling you for a credit card number.

Giveawayoftheday offers prominently, "... a convenient initiative allowing you to get the best commercial software titles - for free. Every day we offer licensed software you'd have to buy otherwise, for free! Yes, we are giving away software, and you can download it from our site, right now and right here and our goal is to give away every good piece of software, sooner or later."

Does software such as was offered by iobit in the Advanced Windowcare 2 Pro package downloadable here conform to this pledge? OF COURSE NOT. Software that reverts to trial functionality in three days is not licensed! (This is surely SEPARATE issue from being able to download NEW updates. New updates cost the developer additional resources in bandwidth.)

iobit did not conform to the terms of its contract with this site and its implied contract with users. What it offered was not licensed software. In fact, their offering was a MEAN TRICK, not something beneficial at all to users, but only a source of almost immediate disappointment.

In my communication with this outfit, they indicate that they may reoffer their product. GIVEAWAY OF THE DAY SHOULD DEMAND THAT THEY OFFER THEIR SOFTWARE FOR A DAY ONLY ON THE TERMS ORIGINALLY PROMISED BY THIS SITE: AS LICENSED, NOT TRICK, SOFTWARE.

  6. It seems my rant on exactly the above was moderated/deleted? In a nutshell when it comes to giveaways or anything else - I believe in karma - making users upset with your company/software is not a good thing. They should do everything to ensure that they showcase the latest and the best they have to offer (no old versions) and "indian givers" are not appreciated. You don't win friends by handing out apples filled with worms.

Companies like Stardock are fine examples of those who took the chance to trust their customers years ago, and were rewarded with loyalty in return.

    Thank you all.

Once again we have another example, either by the GOTD and by Iobit, of fraudulent internet business, managed by irresponsible people with criminal misleading offerings, lack of business ethic and legally unreachable. If this was a physical outlet or a legally registered business, for sure their promoters would be in jail or out of business. With scams like this I wonder if anyone will trust credit card details either to the GOTD promoters or to Iobit. I wish them a huge bad luck.

Yes, but here it is not a problem of upgrading the software to a new version, but to upgrade a database used by this version of the software.
When after a software upgrade the database for the actual version would no longer be mainained, that would be ok.
But okay, doing as Iobit does here, does not lead poeple to buy their products.

clweb: I totally agree with you.

srdiamond: do you need help for pressing GAOTD and IOBIT to conform with the publicized offer? Just suggest it and I'll do it. For instance, we can create a thread only for this purpose and regulary fill it with new comments, in order to not let the issue die.

First action taken: from now on, I'll post in the giveaway of the day a reminder on this issue.

    This is getting trickier.

Now, when trying to update manually, I don't get the message "Your subscription license has expired! Please click here to renew your license and get full funcion". IN FACT, I DON'T GET NOTHING - IT DOESN'T UPDATE ANYTHING and I still have the February 21st database.

  12. That was last update if MMS.

It is updating dangerous links I think.

Well, I tried the manual re-install of the activation information to no avail. The program suddenly became unregistered for some unknown reason. I didn't try to update the database, in fact, I hadn't been at the computer at all because I just had surgery. I was very surprised when I decided to run the Advanced Windows Care Pro and it thought it was the trial version. I really did like this one, too. It might not be the best thing out there, but it was simple to use and found a lot of junk that other programs missed. Oh well. I just won't download or purchase anything from Iobit, that's for sure.

... right, the "free" version is not the Pro version.

    Posted 1 year ago #
  16. True... but at least the "free" version "works", and can be updated and reinstalled.

IMO we have been given so much software on GOTD recently that does the same as AdvancedWindowsCare that not having AWC Pro is no great loss. In fact it felt great to uninstall it. ;)

    Edited.

No making points like that or this site could be sued.

  20. I'm not sure I follow your logic. You don't trust the company - yet you are prepared to trust the health of your pc to their program. In fact you are insisting upon it. Logic would dictate that if you felt so strongly about them, that you would refuse to use their software.

I guess is a matter of some principle which has nothing to do with logic.

I am just giving up on them and this entire crusade. I feel the potential outcome is not justified by the effort and time required (ie. it is a complete waste of time).

  21. I am sure the mentioning of an alledged Chinese company, taking credit card information and passing it on to criminals, might ring a bell.

  22. Yes, no need to explain. As I said, I felt the comments were out of line and not appropriate for these forums.

At the end of the day, if you don't like the software - don't use it. Just because you can install it for free - nobody is forcing you to use it.

This was about the loss of integrity in business, from whom you less expected it.
And I'm not done with this subject yet.
Unfortunately there are online people who came on the defense of scams like these. Not even a word was written by him in condemning it.
For sure anyone can anonimously play the devil's role - makes me wonder who is hiding behind ... have a nice day, bubsomething - don't bother - take with you your free personal whatever you name it. I prefer to have the games' rules respected.
