Installed today's Giveaway of the day multiple times but I still get - Application failed to initialize when I try to launch the downloader. I did a search on the error and associated code and got back a few results that said it has something to do with a .Net fix which I also downloaded but without success. Any suggestions on how to get this working would be great. Thanks.

Sorry, dunnmaster, I should have taken a crack at yours, but I forgot. I saw it and went to read the comments section to see if anyone else had the problem and whether they'd worked it out, and after 103 comments forgot to come back. We'd have probably needed to see the whole error message and what .net fix you tried in order to be able to make progress from there. Hope we can help you next time.

Joe, you may be out of luck. Nobody's quite been able to track this down for sure. It looks like a problem with .net framework, which, you might be aware, is now the underlying programming architecture in Windows. It's to replace the older system of modules which grew out of Visual Basic. This program may have been written in .net version 2.0, and the developer suggests you try and install it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
For Vista users, however, there's a rub. Vista already comes with 2.0, or at least parts of it, bundled in with it's version, 3.0. One user said they tried to install 2.0 on Vista and got a message that 2.0 was already installed on the system. You could try it, or try:
Running chkdsk and the System File Checker to see if any parts of your 2.0 are damaged and can be repaired. If you need instructions on either of those, post back.
You could try re-installing 3.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en
or upgrade to one of the newest versions, 3.5 or 3.5 sp1:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en
Understand, though, since 3.5 and sp1 have 3.0 and 2.0 bundled in, they're fairly large. Just the downloads are 200 and 235 megs, respectively. Don't worry about the installer upgrade hotdoge, rightly, mentions. Vista ships with an upgraded installer. However, with the number of bugs pointed out in the software's comment section, I think I'd just look at the freeware or online suggestions, and let this go.

Your link is wrong...could that be the problem? You have a hhtp instead of a http. Or maybe this is out of my league and its supposed to be like that...

Sharp eye, name! But so many reported that problem, and the developer actually emailed somebody back that it was a .net problem, that I imagine brhodes typed it out, instead of copy - paste. I'd say it's just a typo. In fact, I'm not sure anybody got this to work on Vista. The couple who said it worked really didn't specify that they'd gotten a good download. Sometimes, we get posters who have really only installed and maybe looked at the interface and checked registration, but really haven't put the program through it's paces.
Another note to Joe: the other reason I don't think I'd bother, is that they're are plenty of programs and online services that can download from other servcies, too, not just youtube. Like keepvid.com
