   Being a new boy, would someone please enlighten me regarding 'How to activate/register the Giveaway progs?, and what is the ' Special verification program' referred to . ? I also note that today's giveaway ( DVD Ripper Platinum ) "This Giveaway is not available any more " ????????? thanks for your time

   Firstly welcome to the forum.

   Secondly that give away was available yesterday, G.M.T. 08:04 to 08:03:59 today.

   The rules are quite simple.

   Installation

   Unzip the package you`ve downloaded and run Setup.exe to install the software, then run the activation program Activate.exe which is included in the package.

   You have to install it before the Giveaway offer for the software is over.

   Terms and conditions

   Please note that the software you download and install during
   the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
   1) No free technical support
   2) No free upgrades to future versions
   3) Strictly non-commercial usage

   However sometimes there may not be an activation file, but a serial on the readme.txt document within the .rar or .zip file you downloaded.

   The software is in a wrapper 99 times out of 100 and can only be used within the 24 hour give away period.

   vs6gyrob, if you're thinking that DVD Ripper Platinum is today's giveaway because you got an e-mail saying that, well..., I've got bad news. GOTD's e-mail system is a little erratic (if you look, you'll see the forums full of threads about that right now). You might want to check the option on the homepage to subcribe to the RSS (news) feed, which has a much better reputation for reliability.

   As to activation, well..., actually, most of the time the developer consents to allowing GOTD to encase their setup program in a wrapper which automatically registers the program when it installs. But, not always. Some have a seperate "Activate" program which will activate it, usually after you install. Other developers provide a registration code you have to enter. The bottom line, READ THE READ ME that comes in the download. (Capitals provided for emphasis, not for insult). The read me will always contain the pertinent instructions. If you have any problems, (for example, sometimes in Vista the setups must be "run as Administrator") check the comments page and these forums. If there's a hitch in the activation routine, we'll be talking about it and trying to iron out any bugs or straighten any confusion.

   Thanks Lee,for the reply ,I am aware re the 'rules' regarding the limited time per GOTD ,and would point out that the stated time period for that particular prog 'DVD Ripper Platinum' was in fact timed for that day in question i.e 0707hrs. Which endorses the remarks by 'Watcher 13 ( who I also wish to thank for the 'pitfalls etc' you kindly pointed out )
   However as stated ,as a 'new boy'(I am learning already.). Forgive me for being rather naive (must confess to being a 'so-called' wrinkly !!at 88,and still breathing ) ?? May I thank you both for the enlightenment Best Wishes vs6gyrob

   Wow vs6gyrob you are a "wrinkly" aren't you. I guess in your eyes I must be a kid at 56. :) Just wanted to say hi to you and let you know that it's "noob" or "newbie" both of which mean new person or "new boy" as you put it. I'm really glad to see someone of my parents age using the net.

   Hi Pavid, thanks for your 'input' re the 'noob' 'newbie' correction ! Whatever ! Yes, I appreciate the new 'terms' in 'more modern language'? but I feel sure that people will understand ,when I use the obsolete ?? 'new boy'....By the way,Pavid, I must add, I'm somewhat fortunate in that, I actually have very few 'wrinkles'as such !!
