I sometimes receive the Giveaway email eg: like the -MultiStage Recovery is professional data recovery software for Windows- today May 7 but when I go to the download it says it is only available May 6. I am in NSW Australia & wondering if it is a time difference or something???

This is one thing I cannot understand.
People that complain they have received an email stating the availability of
a software/game being out-of-date.
I sent an email on Sunday and it arrived Wednesday, thats not my fault, thats probably a server issue.
So visit the site at 09:00 g.m.t. and you then have 23 hours to download an item.
Why wait for an email?

Same for me in California - the daily messages arrive at about 5 minutes past midnight, but some days - like today - the expiration was actually the day before.
Is it possible the GOTD servers were setup incorrectly sometimes?

I have to agree with mdboxberger.. I'm in Eastern time USA, emails arrive about 4AM here, and yet today's offering showed what was offered yesterday. So, something's haywire. Of course I never depend on the emails anymore, I just go to the site to see what's available every day.

Add me to the list. I'm on the US East Coast and apparently yesterday's giveaway was posted to the fileserver at: Posted: 06 May 2009 12:00 AM PDT. I received the message today: Thu, 07 May 2009 07:03:15 +0000
I don't think it's us or our mail servers....I think it's that 12:00AM PDT that's throwing the date off....and I think it's a giveawayoftheday coding error....or what I really suspect is that the system clock on one of their systems is off by 12 Hours and that the program was really should have been posted at 00:01:00 today, not noon yesterday
Too bad...I could have used yesterday's program....

Add me, too. For instance, today I got the notice of yesterday's giveaway but not today's. Also, I often don't get the emails at all. I will go several days without receiving one.
If the site's owners want us to come to the site each and every day to see what's available then don't offer an email notice.
If you do offer an email service please make sure it works as advertised.
I don't mean to be whining about missing out on free stuff, but it was stated that we would receive daily and timely notice. My hunch is that the problem is with Google's feeder service or a handshake issue between GOTD and Google. No matter what the technical issue is people are being alienated. Thanks.

Today, 5/7/09, I received an email at 03:03 this morning for the Multistage Recovery software. When I opened the webpage it said it was no longer available, it was for 5/6/09. This is the second time this week I have received an email at about 3am for software that was for the day before and the time had expired. I'm even on Eastern Standard Time! No wonder people outside the USA are having a problem, can't even get the emails on time here! I would say this is more than 12 hours off, its a full 24 hours off on getting emails. I normally would have gotten this email about 3am yesterday.

I'm not sure that the entire email process is automated, or if it is, it's seems glitchy. Once in a while, I don't get them at all. I know it's unfashionable here to complain since it's a free service, but I think that's a little unfair. To be blunt, GOTD sometimes seems likes it's having a little trouble keeping up with the work load. I'm sympathetic, but these little problems don't help GOTD, either. Like server issues or not having a weekend game but not posting about it on the blog. And they have a very dedicated community which posts a lot of helpful information and works hard to help any users that are having a hard time, which makes the project better. Yet, sometimes I think they rarely look at these pages. They certainly practically never post anything here. They seem much more secretive than almost all the software developers. In other words, not much tech support for this project.
I agree Lee, the email to me is secondary, I check the site every day anyway. But why even bother to have an e-mail system if you can't work the bugs out? And why bother to have a blog for announcements when you're only going to post about as often as Haley's Comet comes around, even though there are often things to post? Or why have a good forum community for feedback, and then not become at least a little involved in it?
My only guess could be, that, at least, on not having a giveway issues or server or e-mail issues, is that they're relunctant to make a blog post so that developers won't think that there's "trouble in Paradise". Still, if that's it, I think the developers are probably aware of the occassional bug, and probably wouldn't get spooked.
I'm not down on GOTD. My word of advice to them is: either simplify your operation by getting rid of items that don't work well or you don't utilize, or utilize your tools effectively to make happy campers instead of frustrated ones.

Hi everyone, I don't comment too often on here but just wanted to let you all know that the last giveaway was DHTML Menu 9.2 on May 5. I don't bother with their emails but then, I have dsl so I can get on here whenever I want as opposed to some who have dial up and have to pay up the nose to keep checking it. If you ARE able to get on the net whenever you want, I would advise you just putting the home page in your favorites or on your Home Page.

I want to revise what I wrote above. I got on my Home Page this morning and they were not showing a new program (just the one from May 5th) so I decided to click on Giveaway and they had a new program, which means I missed out on whatever they had on the 6th and 7th. In other words, they aren't sending emails on time OR updating notices for Home Pages. This is the first week they've done this and I've been coming here for a long time now. Don't know what is going on with them.

This just started happening to me as well. I use Gmail and for the last three days, I have been getting my emails one full day late. My email arrived today at 2:02 AM for the Giveaway of the Day - Wondershare DVD Ripper Platinum from May 7, 2009. Not sure what is going on with the changes but it is really odd. I have never had a problem with Gmail before. Do we have any trends on the types of email servers being used and showing the late posts?

I believe that GOTD needs to examine their postings. My notifications have been coming one day late for several days, and the activation doesn't contact until after the expiration time. If this is to continue where is the value in remaining part of this community?
I have been one of the participants for more than a year and never had this kind of probem before. I thought that maybe changing my OS had something to do with it, but find that restoring to old system made no appreciable change in the GOTD behavior.

I am having the same problem and I am in Texas (Central Time) and they are coming a day late for me also. I depend on Emails and it has never been a problen until the past two weeks. I really wanted several last week and this week since I lost everything 3 weeks ago due to having a hard drive replaced.

If they say it is a server problem then why is all of my other email getting to me on time? I have friends all over the US and I get their emails a few seconds of them sending them to me. Plus this just recently started happening to me within the past two weeks.

Freedove, let me clarify so I don't mislead anyone. If it was me who gave you that impression, I'm not saying the email problem is related to the server, though there's a small chance it could be. I meant that the e-mail problem, the occassional server problem, their failure to post on their blog when a post would be helpful, and what seems to be an occassional lack of engagement with the nuts and bolts of the project, I feel are all examples of little chinks in the armor. GOTD is still a great service. I just hope, for their sake, they'll consider addressing these issues.

Watcher13, thanks for the reply. Finally today I got a current GAOD email that wasn't already expired and I was able to download and install it. :o)
I do hope we have some repeat offers of the ones from Wondershare that a lot of us missed due to getting the offers late. I really like GAOD because it give me a chance to find software and try it and if it is easy enough for me to figure out how to use I don't mind buying the product.

Also instead of relying on emails - consider subscribing to the RSS feed that is made available on this site (you can even subscribe to forum topics - note the "RSS feed for this topic" item at the end of each topic)

Hey, Kyle. If this is your first post, welcome to the forums. GOTD says it's the e-mail provider and they can't do anything about. They've posted their explanation on their blog. If you've never seen it, the links are on the right hand top of the giveaway page. I'd take Bubby's advice. There's also a twitter option that they mention on the blog.
