Help file states to record streaming audio go to: “Main menu “Options > “Input Device. There is no input device option on mine, only output format. If there is no input device option, how do I record from other sources? I am a newbie to sound editing. Have I missed something?

I am using Vista 32 bit, have unsuccessfully looked in control panel and in device managemet. Where do I find the settings you suggested?

I'm having the same issue. Using xp sp3. The option for input devices isn't listed at all, not greyed out. Also, when I loaded an audio file it allowed me to apply one edit then froze. My system resources are fine. All of the editing options just greyed out, including the option to save the single edit. Further, the help files disappear upon exit and one can only print one section at a time making research tedious at best. It says I successfully registered.
I am also unsure of what Buzz is referring to. The proper devices are selected under my audio properties. I'm trying to use a headset w/ mic.
I appreciate any and all attempts to help.

I figured it was an issue with pseudo drivers that I use as default. Though I have set my default sound device for playback and recording to the system soundcard there is no change. I still cannot find the input device option. However, I can use the soundcard mixer which allows me to select the input device. So atm I cannot figure out what's going on, my only conclusion would be sound card incompatibility issues with this application.
On another note: for sake of sanity I cannot find several of the new filters and effects advertised on the website. For instance I cannot find the bass boost, voice changer or scene fx effects. The equilizer button shows on the toolbar during playback but is disabled. Is it just me or is this a crippled version of the official version?

I found that the Help file is misleading - There is no Input Option or Device Option. I went to the Control Panel clicked on Sound then Recording and changed my default device to Microphone (or to Line In) and then went back to Audio Editor and recorded a file using my Mic and it Worked!! Hope this helps you.

Thanks Gabbynot! I clicked the record button and successfully recorded a file. I'll try playing with it to see if the other issues disappear.

If you cannot select the input device and would like to record audio from your soundcard, that is online radio, streaming or similar:
1st right-click on the speaker icon in the notification area/system tray and select adjust audio properties. Next select the Audio tab, under sound recording ensure that your sound card is set as the default device. Then select volume under sound recording.
Here you are able to select the input device for recording, your options will vary depending on your sound card. Again the options will vary but the first option is usually for the soundcard itself(Stereo Mix, Wave or similar title). Make sure it is selected by checking the Select box (you can also select the microphone or line in option to record from your mic). You may also want lower the volume for this as it tends to record at a very high volume which produces clipping and distortion.
There you have it, you are now ready to record online streams or sound from other applications.
Simply start the audio in the other application and press record within Audio Editor Deluxe.
NOTE: This process for adjusting audio properties applies to windows XP, some of the options and dialogue may be different with Vista.

Right click'g on the speaker icon gives me: Playback devices, recording devices and sound mixing. The recording device tab gives me: External Mic, Integraded Microphone Array and Stereo Mix (which says "currently unavailable". If I use the configure button on External Mic or Mic Array, I get a control panel window which applies to speech recognition areas. My sound card is IDT High defiiton Audio CODEC. I am especially interested in stream recording.

In Vista, at least on my PC setup, when I right click on the speaker icon I get the same as going through the Control Panel, but as SimpleMinded's instructions, it is faster by the Icon method!! :-) Click on the 'Recording Devices' When that window comes up Right Click on the Device that states 'currently unavailable', you will get a drop down menu that will give options which one of them will be to make it the 'Default' - Hope this helps you a little more.

Thanks gabbynot. Chang'g the setting to default worked. I was able to record the stream but now (I feel so stupid to even ask) but .... how do I stop the recording? Also my thanks to simpleminded for taking the time to respond.

Hopefully you figured out how to stop recording by now moongre. If not, just press the square stop button within Audio Editor Deluxe. Give the program a little time import your recordind. Then edit it till your heart is contempt or save it as the format of your choice (File > Save).
