   Hi, debra, and welcome to the forums!
   You should give us more information about your problem.
   Which system has your computer, proxy, firewall, anti-virus-program, XP or Vista, what have you done or not done, was there an error warning, when and how often did you try, which program... :)
   I'm sure then you will get a better answer.

   Hi Debra,

   The activation process connects to GOTD via IE... even if FF is your default browser!
   If you've uninstalled IE or if you have IE set to stay offline then the activation won't work. So, Buzz is right... try IE! Once you've got it working in IE then you can use FF or any other browser again.

   P.S. Please make sure you get antivirus again asap. There are lots of free options available if you don't want to renew Norton.
