Cool Record Edit Pro reversed to trial version today.

I installed today's GAOTD, Advanced Audio Recorder, and when I ran the Built-in Audio Editor that comes with it, I noticed that it looked a lot like 'Cool Record Edit Pro' which I use almost daily.

When I opened CREP for comparison purposes, I got a message window saying that my 30 day trial had expired and I need to buy a license. It was working fine yesterday and I haven't made any changes other than installing today's GAOTD.

I always turn off any automatic upgrades options from every program I download from GAOTD. So what gives? I was under the impression that GAOTD offerings did not have time limits and the fact that CREP broke the same day I installed AAR seems too coincidental.

Does anybody have both CREP and AAR working? Has anybody run into this problem? Are there solutions to fix it?

This is the first time a GAOTD reverses back to trial during the 18 months I've used GAOTD.

    I am very disappointed,

Same thing has happened to me AxCut. This is not the first time it has happened to me though, but I can't remember the name/s of the programs this happened with before. Guess we just have to live with it, (or without it, as the case may be). There were no solutions last time.

    hello, AxCut...

    same thing here...

i set a system restore point before install...

installed...CREP then showed as unregistered (trial expired)...found the CREP install on my external drive (it had an actual setup file along with the read-me, not just the usual setup.exe)...ran the setup again, hoping against the odds it would work & be registered again...no luck...

my old notebook i reformatted for a friend (then decided to keep & put games on...lol...) has Returnil...verified CREP still worked there...put Returnil on...installed AAR...and CREP was "trial expired" again...rebooted & got CREP back...

i guess i'm one of those people that doesn't learn my lesson & keeps repeating the past.........sadly, it's usually self-inflicted...lol...

hope you found a way to get CREP back...good luck...

Hi folks and thanks for your replies.

Violet's experiments proves that installing AAR makes CREP revert to trial mode but like Nola said, there is little hope that we will get any help. Still, I would like to know if some charitable person that has both GAOTDs working in registered mode would post a note in this thread stating so.

Violet, I did find CREP in a virtual computer and it works great and I swear it seem to work faster and better than the one I lost!

Hey . . . Didn't some other giveaway since also screw CREP up?
Hmmm . . . almost seems like the CREP folks are just upgrading that version and renaming it. I hate software that nullify's other software, even if I don't ever use it.
I did notice the new audio editor looked exactly like the other immediately.
Fortunately, AAR appears to be the easiest-to-use, most complete one of these yet offered.

Soooo, do ya'll reckon it's ok to go ahead and let Revo clean CREP out, or will that ruin the AAR install?

I'm not sure MrFishy, if installing a program breaks another uninstalling the second one may break the one you installed. Since we have to make decisions in 24 hours I can't test these theories. Now it is too late 'cause if AAR breaks I will end up with no CREP and AAR on my server.

You may be right about the CREP folks 'upgrading' their software but why change the name? I haven't tested both fully yet so I don't know which one is better.

    hello, AxCut...

glad you still have CREP... :)

    hello, MrFishy...

looking at previous giveaway comments, CyberPower Audio Editing Lab (April 3, 2008) seems to be the culprit you referred to...same "trial expired" issue...

as far as the question about uninstalling CREP...four thoughts here:

    1) commenter #94 yesterday, Funkster, said he used the GOTD reg. data & the trial AAR download from their site...and it gave a valid registered version of AAR...take a look at his comment............how much of a risk-taker are you?...lol...

    2) turn on Returnil...let Revo fly...then check AAR...if all is well, reboot, leave Returnil off, uninstall CREP............MrFishy: risk-taker?...

    3) set a system restore point...try the uninstall...restore if it doesn't work...

    4) remember you are listening to advice from someone that is usually in the "Word Association" thread... :)

my reasons for keeping CREP over AAR: no problems when using CREP...didn't like AAR wiping CREP out............initially i was concerned about the trojan reports, but with just one AV reporting, it did seem a false positive was most likely...

...it was strange that the CREP wipeout wasn't noticed/noted in the comments section yesterday...

Not a huge risk taker, but ain't a'scared neither! Actually, I'm in the songwriter/demo biz and have all the audio stuff GAOTD has offered in the recent (6mos) past . . . however, due to the nature of the beast, writers block, I haven't really needed any of them yet. I suppose I'll cross this bridge when I reach it.
    V/Ax . . . thanks!

Sounds like the same thing here.
Installed AAR and have now found that CyberPower Audio Editing Lab has reverted to a trial version.
    Revo'd CyberPower,as it's no darn use now,and discovered 224 reg entries.
At least Sound Editor Deluxe does not seem to have been similarly afflicted.

Looks as though I may have to retract that accusation.
I have just remounted an Acronis image in read/write mode from the day before installing AAR and the CyberPower had already reverted to trial status at that time.

    Hi everyone,

Violet, thank you for taking the time to investigate and post the results. IMHO I think it proves that installing AAR breaks CREP license. I wish there was some way to try the opposite, that is, use Returnil to check if installing AAR first and then CREP would break CREP but installing CREP is not an option.

I think Violet's comment about CyberPower Audio Editing Lab was meant to say that CPAEL also reverted to trial mode. I don't think she meant that CPAEL broke CREP license. Like MrFishy, I install all the recording/editing software offered here and I visit GAOTD everyday ever since I found it 18 months ago.

I found another disturbing fact. All the AVS4YOU software, including AVS Audio Editor, that I got from GAOTD has also reverted back to trial mode. What is going on here? How many GiveAways have reverted to trial mode even though they worked fine for weeks?

Of course, if they all revert to trial mode after six months or something like that we can't complain because the software being free and all. We can't go to the GAOTD folks because they have no control over licensing and we can't go to the software maker because we don't have tech support. So all those wonderful free programs I had that I though will help me in the future have become clutter.

I am a very patience person and hardly ever get angry, but THIS SUCKS ROCKS!!!!! I am going to start checking ALL the GAOTD's I have installed (I started in 2006) and will start a thread about what I find if it is worth talking about. But first I need to relax and let the anger dissipate so now I'm gonna go sharpen my Ax for a while. I find it soothing...
