Good News

(17 posts)

  1. Well I was complaining about the poor living conditions in another thread, which I am sure got on the nerves of some people and a sarcastic comment was made.

Good news though, I contacted my brief and they got a surveyor to examine our conditions.

The surveyor said this was one of the worst cases of damp and poverty he had witnessed in his 30 years.

Surprise, surprise 1 hour later, a phone call was received by my fiancée from the housing association with an offer of new accommodation 10 miles away.

So fingers crossed we shall be in a new home by July.

I may not be around for about 3 weeks come the 21st of June 2008, due the time it takes for a new phone line, my ISP to initiate a new mac code on my line etc.. etc.. so apologies.

I am here everyday b.t.w. I don't write too often, I am usually reading threads and answering my messages and working.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts I received.

I had a visit today and I will sign for the property on Wednesday.

So I will be off line for about 1 month due to I need to find a service provider.

So as off Tuesday June 2008 I will not be around.

Thanks for all those that contacted me and wished me well.

Lee.. glad this came through for you. Everytime a door closes a better one opens.
One tip in moving, best to label the boxes with the rooms they came "from"...as you know where most things are in that room. Makes it easier to unpack. Like: bathroom, kitchen, etc.

  6. Lee...That's great! Glad to hear this has worked out for you. I hope everything continues to get better and better. We'll miss you. Happy moving! (Copmom gave you great advice. We helped friends move last year and thay had marked the boxes that way and it made it so much easier for us to help.)

Lee, having helped a number of friends move over the years, here are the Top 10 lessons learned:
10 - Seriously consider hiring pros.
9 - Use professional furniture pads generously.
8 - Tie down every large object in the truck with something a lot stronger than kite string. (see Newton's 1st Law of Motion - Inertia)
7 - Don't skimp on fiberglas filament tape... bottom seals are all that separates the contents from the concrete.
6 - Box labels need to show contents and TO/FR locations (den, shop, master bath, etc) in large clear waterproof lettering
5 - Bend knees before lifting heavy objects.
4 - Wear a back brace regardless of how fit you feel.
3 - Don't hand out beers until the job's finished.
2 - Hope for the best, expect the worst, take what comes.

    And, the Number 1 lesson...

1 - Never EVER try to move a full or even half-full aquarium.

  8. Good luck, Lee. I hate moving. I think I had rather have a root canal.

  9. In my 39 years this will be my 16th time.

The current place I am at is the worst.

As for a root canal, never had one, as for hiring pros done that, I will be paying the other £150 today as the a.t.m. only allows £300 per day and so it's going to cost £450.

Suzie is the drinker, so she can hand out her bottles of Vodka.

Aquarium, is a good one, when we moved to Leybourne 5 years ago, I released my two goldfish and 1 small catfish into Crystal Palace bowl pond, hopefully they're all alive and swimming with all the other goldfish others have released.

The journey would have been too much for them.

I miss them still as we had them for 5 years previous.

Thanks for the rest of the tips team.

See you all in 3 weeks or so, need a new isp also as my current cannot offer me a service, due to a local covenant by some church that bans satellite dishes on homes and my isp is also my satellite provider and only bskyb customers (also known as sky tv)so to have them as your isp you must also subscribe to their tv services.

I might be going back to AOL or maybe use BT.

O.K. thanks for your support, it's been a traumatic 3 years living at my current address, was not just the damp, but the things chucked at our home, racist remarks, litter chucked on our garden, constant comments at my children by morons.

All because my fiance is afro caribbean, my children our classed as mixed, however she is a born-n-bred cockney like me, though that didn't matter to the bigots.

Awww, Lee, I was unaware you had to cope with so many morons. I am so sorry, and I feel especially bad for the children. Prejudice is one of my pet peeves (does that make me prejudiced against prejudiced people?)

Focus on the life you have, filled with love and the laughter of children. Yours will only improve; their mean-spirited lives, on the other hand, appear bleak.

As for the move: buddy, I feel your pain. The Navy moved us (myself, two children) five times in one year. I gave my kids some crayons and markers and let them decorate the boxes with pictures instead of labeling. It gave them something creative to do, let them feel a part of the activity and reminded me to smile throughout the entire aggravating process. Just a thought .. might make your move easier, too.

Good Luck with your move. It saddens me in this day and age that unfortunately such racial intolerance and bigotry still exists. It is pure ignorance. I look forward to the day when we are united by our common humanity rather than judged on gender, religion, race, disability and sexuality.

I hope that the process of moving is as painless as possible. And I hope that you can look forward to living in an area free of this prejudice and have a peaceful family life.

    have a good move, lee.

i, too, am really saddened to hear about such intolerance in this day and age (actually, any day and age). why anyone would waste their energy and produce and spread such negativity, especially about the lives of other people who don't affect them at all, is completely beyond me.

i will be hoping that your new neighbors are much better.

Congratulations Lee with your new home.
    Good luck with the moving.

It makes me so angry, all the racists, why?
We are all human, with the same colour blood in our body, its only the colour thats different.
And then the children, ill find that the worst.
I hope that in your new neighbourhood its different and pleasent.

Hope to see you back soon.

    Greetings,

    Crazyritten.
