The old expired antivirus on my parents PC could not be removed. When I tryed to uninstall it, it asked for a password. They had no idea what the password was, so I tryed deleting everything in safe mode. When I try to install another antivirus, it says the previous one is still installed.

It appears that there some services that I need to delete, I disabled them but that is not enough. Also there are some things in the registy that I can not delete even in safe mode. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello,
I am guessing the Antivius program is Norton, because I had trouble to get rid of it, I discovered that Norton has a tool to uninstall all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer, available at:
    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?OpenDocument
be sure to follow the instructions.
    Catch you latter,
    Barry

It seems like it was from Trend Micro, PC-cilin.

But if no one knows the details to remove it. I think I found most of the registry entries and services.

How do you delete a service? I already disabled it.

How do you remove entries from the registry? I have worked with the registry before, but I am not allowed to delete these, even in safe mode.

Right now they can not use the internet, it is locked up until I can fix this.

  5. To remove services (not for the squeamish)

    http://www.l5sg.com/Products/Downloads/servicemanager.html

ServiceManager is a tool designed to allow System Administrators, Power Users and Developers an easy means to view, modify or remove services and their information on Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP platforms.

It is up to the user to understand the ramifications of their actions when using ServiceManager. Modifying or removing a service may lead to a machine being unable to boot or run properly.

You could try ro reinstall the same version with the original installer and then remove it again with the Windows add/remove Software feature in the configuration panel.

You could also try using software like sysinternals/autoruns to disable any service/drivers/executable that launches at boot time, but this can be tricky, especially for drivers. And you will still have some specific keys in the registry that your new software may check, resulting in the error message you mentioned.

    Hi Zwilnik,

Since it depends on the year of the product, I searched on several fronts for answers and here is what I found.

The tool is called PCCTools and can be found here for PC-cillin 2002 or 2003 : http://www.support.antivirus.co.uk/trendmicro/kbresolution.jsp?hmid=2530&appId=1

The exact download link is here : http://knowledgedocs.misgl.com/Facets/Trend/pccillin2003/Installing%20Uninstalling/PCCtools.zip?timestamp=1212445860533

A guide in Word format is here : http://knowledgedocs.misgl.com/Facets/Trend/pccillin2003/Installing%20Uninstalling/Uninstalling%20PCcillin%202002%202003.doc?timestamp=1212445860533

A short illustraded guide is here : http://www.valdosta.edu/helpdesk/guides/antivirus/ManualRemoval2003.shtml

For uninstalling help directly from Trend Micro, go here and answer a few questions : http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/consumer/answerguide.do

Also found this on a post elsewhere :

To uninstall the 2005 program, please search for this file:

Go to My Computer > Local Disk C: > Program Files > Trend Micro > PCC2005_1244 > TOOLS > look for PCCTOOL.EXE Once you find the file (it has a hammer and a capsule icon) double click on the file to open.

Once you double click, a new window will pop-up. Please close the search window and just leave the PCCTOOL open.

Go to the UNINSTALL tab and click on 4.UNINSTALL button. This will start uninstalling your program.

    Restart your computer after uninstallation.

After you restart go to My Computer > Local Disk C: > Program Files > delete Trend Micro folder

    Hope that helps

    Ciao

    Addendum :

The Word file can be opened with OpenOffice (directly) and Lotus Symphony (with a small warning about loss of format but no other problem) if you don't have MSOffice.
