I need to vent

  1. I'm really irritated by the comments on the GGOTD download page by people telling GOTD/GGOTD to shut down just because they don't happen to like every single download. Why don't they just leave if they don't like it? I don't care for some of the games and I've even had a time or two when I was really disappointed, but good grief, I don't want the site to shut down. You'd think they were being forced to come here. I may not always LOVE every single d\l, in fact there may be several in a row I don't care for, but there are others who are enjoying them even if I don't. Gee people, stop being so dog-gone selfish!

    There! I feel better now.
Hey! Tomorrow's Mother's Day and I'll vent if I want. In fact I might just vent again tomorrow, might as well get all I can out of it.

Well said Buckleysmom, I agree wholehertedly with your sentiments. I really don't understand the criticism levelled at the game giveaway team just because so and so hasn't got a game they've liked for awhile.

I'm so happy that we have such a site to be able to visit. It was the highlight of my morining for the first several months. I used to get myself cleaned up, then have breakfast before I opened the game giveaway site, and over the intervening year and a half have discovered some brilliant games that I would certasinly not have evcen thought of trying prior to the project.

It's spawned a brilliant forum where more often than not you'll find some excellent freeware games to sate your appetite if the game giveaway didn't and if there isn't there's literally hunreds of games that you can choose from to play (assuming you're not too narroew minded about what you play. I for one would never have bought a traditional platform game prior to this project. It opened up a whole new world of games for me as I was very narrow in what I'd purchase (Arkanoids and space shooters).

There's a difference between giving constructive critiscism about a game and outright blasting the project. They have given away a wide range of games since its inception back in Nov 06, which should cover about everyones taste in games.

I'd like to take this oppertunity to say a big thank you to the game giveaway team (and the giveaway team) and to those that make the forums a pleasure to visit.

Keep up the great work. I look forwards to the regular return of the game giveaway project; however if it stays like it it, Cest La Vie, two days is better than nothing. :)

    p.s.

Mothers Day was back in March here in the UK. I wonder why there's a differnce?

  3. WR.....now that you mentioned it....yes, these forums are fantastic. I've found out about so many "freebies" and other great stuff just from being here in the forums. And, the people I've met and friends I've made (like you) are absolutely awesome and I would miss everyone if they closed the site down.

Thanks again GOTD team and thanks for not listening to the "dooms-day-ers".

Not sure about the Mother's Day thing, but no doubt someone will enlighten us ;)

BK you spoke my sentiments exactly! In fact I think I'm now more hooked on the forums than the give aways!
WR, then when is Father's Day in the UK? Here it's next month / June.

Let's face it . . . if GAOTD's daily offerings were all wonderful, great, NEEDED, and perfect, then many, MANY folks would find their PC's bogged down with rarely/barely used crap!
I learned early on that using this site demands doing research and employing one's self-control.
As far as the blow-hards that express displeasure with offerings THEY can't use, "you can't please all the people, all of the time."
I think Lincoln said that about 150 years ago.

"I'll let ya be in my dream, if I can be in your dream" . . . Bobby Dylan said that.

First let me say that I love the game giveaway site and that I will probably keep coming back until I can't anymore. But I assume that the goal here is to get as many visitors as possible and to keep them coming back. I don't know how they can do that by cutting the game giveaway to weekends only and then offering games that rarely get an "average" rating. Most of the games offered lately are second hand remakes of games that were only average to begin with. I know we can't expect 'Grand Theft Auto IV" but the games offered were better (IMHO) when I first started coming here 6 months ago (I know my profile says 4 months but I was here for about 2 months before signing up). Since coming here I have downloaded dozens of games and I am very grateful for them. Some of the ones I have downloaded did not stay on my machine but I know I have about 30 games right now. I have noticed though that the games just aren't as good as they used to be and I don't see how GGOTD can expect people to keep coming back.

I do enjoy the forums even if I don't comment much. I enjoy reading the posts and getting to know people here. There are a bunch of good, friendly people here and that is part of what keeps me coming back.

I only hope that things better! :)

I think that one problem may be that the GOTD people are deceived by the developers of a lot of these game. I equate those game developers with used car salesmen. They tell GOTD how great their game is and how many they've sold and how much people like it and how it will benefit GOTD, and before you know it, GOTD is driving away in a lemon that breaks down every time someone downloads it.

I'm with Copmom concerning these forums.

    The free games?.....Bleh.

Forums?.....THAT'S where the action is, Baby!!!!!!

I can see where these people are coming from, though. If the site never offers anything worthwhile, why bother keeping it up?

but, the question is.....worthwhile to who?

I don't see how the latest game could be worthwhile to anybody. And the comments regarding the quality of recent games have been nearly unanimous in stating their decline.

I don't think that the site should be taken down, though - it's weathered storms like this before.

We can't always have our cake and eat it too! I'm just glad that there ARE offerings. I think the developers would want to let us have a good sampling of what they have so we would possibly buy their other products... so as funkymom said, 'worthwhile to who'?? We each have our own taste.
GrouchE .. I agree with you. When I first started coming here I did get bogged down with EVERYTHING that was offered.. heck, it was free. I've learned to tailor my downloads .. first to try something that might be good IF it sounds good, and if not needed, delete. And not to get everything just because it "is".

  14. The point is not that people should not leave comments, even negative ones. If someone doesn't like the game, fine, gripe away. But they shouldn't say this site should be closed down just because they're unhappy with what's being giving for free. If someone thinks it's not worth coming here, fine, don't come! Please don't come! Others will take your place anyway. But don't rag on the GOTD team and tell them to shut down. Not that they'll listen anyway, but how would you feel if all you heard was yourself and your team members being trashed cause you didn't "perform" up to someone's standards. For all those "trashers" know the team's been knocking themselves out trying to get better stuff. To those people I say, "This site isn't here just for you and shouldn't close just for you.......there's a whole world of others out there who appreciate it and want it to stay. The GOTD site does not revolve around YOU". That is the point.

And yes, I'm another forum addict....I love this place! I love the freebies too even if I can't always use them.

BK you said it very well! Have you ever noticed that people complain more about free things? Maybe because if there's no price tag, they don't value it? It's not just with games, it's with everything in general.

I check in to GOTD every day, some games are not for me, as some programs on offer are not what i can make use of, however i still check in case there is something to suit my taste and requirement, and if i am unsure they are to my liking i can try them for FREE, no strings,as for the people who run GOTD, i can find no fault, only high praise, thanks for all your good work, then there is the forum and the members, friendly helpful interesting people, " all of them " no angry comments, relaxed, but exciting individuals all.

I agree with pretty much all of the sentiments above. It is a shame that a vocal minority spoils it for the majority of users.

Thankfully the forum is vastly different to the comments section. The amount of knowledge I have gained from this section as well as the myriad links to freebies for both games and software is invaluable.

And for everyone that contributes a huge thank you to all.

PS. Happy Mothers Day to all the Mothers in the Forum. It is also Mothers Day in Australia although Fathers Day is a different day, go figure.

    happy mother's day!

i agree, rob, that the forum is so different from the comments section. it took me a long time to even realize there was a forum. i was going to say that i wished the forum was made more prominent, but then all the jerks will show up and it won't be so great. right now, i think people usually find their way here when they have a problem. once they see all the wonderful helpful people and the fun that we are having a lot of them stay. it's good. i do wish that we had a better interface and could post images and use colors, but it's not that important.

    i love this site.
    i love this forum.
and, most of all...... i love my friends here.

I agree Buckleysmom. Some of those people act like little children who cry and get mad at Christmas time when you missed 1 out of the ten gifts they wanted on the shopping list. Very spoiled and ungrateful at times. What really drives me nuts are one or two that come in and scream "VIRUS VIRUS DON'T D/L" When there are maybe 2000 who D/L with no problem.

You've all, more or less, described my feelings on this topic. I'm happy and thankful for the games and programs that I've receive from GOTD! I've been very selective on what I've downloaded, always researching prior to installing. I can't fathom what a mess my PC would be if I'd have taken every giveaway. There certainly wouldn't be any room for any of other the freebies that folks have posted in these forums. Regardless of what the whiners think, there have been some fantastic programs and games given away. I'm certainly not going to kick this gift horse in the mouth.

In addition, these forums have brought me much joy and amusement over the last several months. There are so many interesting, fun and helpful characters here who I've grown very fond of. (Just think...I was afraid to join in and only lurked for almost a year.) Love you guys and gals! I hope we can continue to be a part of this pleasant community for many years to come. Thanks GOTD team, the forum volunteers and all of you!

The humour and camaraderie is definitely another positive aspect to the forum. I'm with Maizeydaze in that it took me a while before I felt comfortable posting/registering but I would always read the forums. And I am glad I finally took the plunge.
