Hi, I just installed and ran the Lorail anti malware program. It detected about 1600 (!) entries, all related to Popcorn Time which is installed on my Windows 7 64 bit computer.
It also detected Win Patrol as a malware.
Question: I trust Win Patrol, so the detection is probably a false positive.
I am not sure about the Popcorn Time. What kind of problems can it create?
Thanks, Vector.

Hi Vector,
are you referring to today's GOTD Loaris Trojan Remover ?I don't know "Popcorn Time" and had to ask Google.
I think your problem with "Popcorn Time" is explained here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn_Time
Popcorn Time was a multi-platform, open source BitTorrent client that includes an integrated media player. The program was a free alternative to subscription-based video streaming services such as Netflix. Popcorn Time used sequential downloading to play copies of films listed by the website YTS, (yts.re, formerly YIFY) (although other trackers can be added and used manually).[4]
Following its inception, Popcorn Time quickly received positive media attention, with some[5] comparing the app to Netflix due to its ease of use. After this increase in popularity, the program was abruptly taken down by its original developers on March 14, 2014 due to pressure from the MPAA.[6] Since then, Popcorn Time has been forked by several other development teams to maintain the program and produce new features....
<Excerpt>Even though Popcorn Time has been facing a lot of difficulties due to the borderline illegal nature of the application, it’s still going strong and its developers are actively releasing updates for it.... <Excerpt>
Using a torrent can be risky and you should take care to not get any malware. Security apps can flag torrents as insecure even when there is no malware in the download.
It's your computer, you have to decide which services you will trust and which risks you are willing to take.graylox

Hi guys, thanks for the enlightening replies.
I think that for now I will keep the Popcorn Time, as at least as I can notice, it gives me no problems.
On the other hand the Lorail program is a little bit too sofisticated for me.
So thanks again, VectorPosted 9 years ago #
