This is a discussion thread for a new forum game that will be called "Who Am I?". It's also here to see if the idea will generate enough interest. If you would like to participate, please submit a post on this thread. Post any suggestions or changes you'd like to see also.

The actual game will have it's own thread.

    Here is the general idea:

    1. One of us would create a new image server account using erroneous registration information and a "throw-away" email address.

    2. The above person would then make the image server account username and password available in the new thread.

    3. Each of us would then upload up to two pictures of ourselves. Or should we limit it to one picture?

    Proposed Guidelines:

    1. The picture(s) must be a likeness of the person who uploads it for the game.

    2. Should we specify a minimum age of the participant when the picture was taken? And should we add a comment to each photo stating either what year the photo was taken or what age you were in the photo?

    3. Give your picture(s) a phony name and if you upload two pictures, they must have the same name and be hyphenated with 1 and 2. (i.e. I upload 2 pics of myself; Gretta-1 and Gretta-2)

    4. Once we get the image server account setup and start the new thread showing the username and password, we wait 1 week (7 days) to give everyone a chance to get their pictures in.

    5. Then on the designated date/time, we begin the game of "Guess Who?".

    6. A Guess from me would be posted something like this: "Scubaguy - Is Ezera-1 you?" Then Scubaguy would return with: "Maizeydaze - You've got to be joking! I told you I was good looking! Try again."

It certainly ties together our natural curiosity and the forum camaraderie .. ok, I'll join. Might be kinda fun to see who is behind the screen names.

  3. Maizey......you know I'm in but I think we should limit it to one picture each so it doesn't get too confusing.....that's just my opinion, I'll go along with whatever is decided....within reason lol

well, in my case everyone's had access to my photo on imageshack, so I'll consider setting up an account someplace- I can use a real set of credentials and email, to avoid tangling with the TOS, maybe?

although I could post a school-days way old photo or 2 to add spice.

hmmm. OK, who added the baby photos? Under teens should be out!

Does everyone agree that the minimum age of the participant should be 13+?

Should we limit the submissions to one per participant?

goodgotd - Everyone will be putting their pictures into a joint account. Please read the general idea section. I don't think we'd want to have anyones real email attached to this account. I tested this at Photobucket using a throwaway address and it works. I don't know if it will cause a problem if they try to send advertising emails or not. I did specify that I did not want to receive their newsletter. The account was created on 3/11/08 and it's still working today, 3/14/08.

Ideally, no personal information should be tied to this account. (Just photos. And someone would really have to jump through hoops to tie them to a real person.)

Just thinking ... Slava and the Giveaway team have a policy that prohibits the posting of personal information .. that might include photos. Have you checked with them to be sure that this is ok?

If you get the OK from GOTD , I'm in, and I agree with buckleysmom, I think just one picture would be plenty or it would get too confusing. Just my opinion.

Puzzles are fun, but I will skip this one. Sorry, maybe I'm too slow to understand the rules, but no pic in the open net.

photobucket accounts can be marked private. only those with access can view. i get e-mails from photobucket (i did sign up) very, very rarely.

over 13 sounds good. as does 1 pic.

  16. Gray & Copmom.....I thought about that too. Then I thought, well, we're not attaching any personal info to the pictures, but OTOH we've already shared a lot of personal info in other threads. We want to think that everyone we're friends with here is as "nice" as we percieve them, but the fact is you just never know. It's someting to really think about before we commit to this. I was all for it, but now you have me wondering......guess I'll have to run it by hubby and see what he thinks.

After that post above, I'm thinking this game could attract a lot of weirdos. Maybe we shouldn't do it. It's apparent that anyone can join the forums. Just because the regulars are only ones posting that doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of lurkers. I watched the forum for almost a year before really getting onto it.

Funky - If we would have an account for everyone to use, we would have to post the log in information in the forum for all to see. Anyone visiting the forum would have access to the account.

  21. That is so funny. I saw that Ultraphonic post and thought, "hmmmmm, here's some new person we know nothing about, like how long they've been lurking." Good grief it's just you, Lockett. Tricky tricky!

Not sure if I totally understand the original premise - but wouldn't the associated problems mentioned (ie: a recognizable photo of oneself loose on the internet) be eliminated if - just for fun - we limit the age of the person - at the time the photo was taken - to "under 10 years old" or so?

It's not exactly what was originally intended, but might be safe fun (unless I totally misunderstood what we're talking about - a distinct possibility!).

first- I certainly don't have photo one back that far, there went the idea up in flames- literally- back in 1982.

second, the 'generic' factor of pre-teens.

and what exactly is the big deal about probably (certainly uncertain) outdated photos, or even current ones?

I 'get' the weirdos but how likely is it to actually be a problem, considering we can't convince most grasshoppers to post questions in the forums at all? or check back, for that matter?

i'm not too worried about my photo being "out there". the password thing is a whole other matter. maybe one of the mods or administrators (ahem.....bubby) would be willing to PM the passwords to those involved.

well, if gaotd's gods approve this in the first place, that gives Bubby tacit permission to help, discreetly..

Is a photo and a screen name enough to give any "wierdos" the info needed to harass or stalk anyone? All we really know is what members put in their profiles. As long as real names and addresses aren't posted I don't see a problem, but then, I am not a weirdo. :)

HOSS, "I am not a weirdo." That's what they all say! LOL

You are probably right. If someone really wants to find something out about someone there are ways to do it. But I don't think we really have to worry about it because it's not like we are desirable targets.

one time in the net means for ever in the net - you can't take it back

sorry, if I spoiled the party
