A curious thing happened to me. I received an email update today, about an offer from a few days ago. The offer in question is for Titan Backup and even has "Posted: 06 Mar 2008" in the email. This happened yesterday as well when I received an email update about a game given away previously.

The curious thing about it is I already got the regular email updates for the day for both the Giveaway and Game Giveaway of the Day, so I don't know why these old email updates are being sent out.

It's not a big deal as I can just delete the emails, but I just thought I'd let someone know about this and I was curious if anyone else is getting these.

    Thanks, funkymom.

I forgot to mention that these out of date email updates came at a strange time of day. Regularly, I get them between 3 to 5 AM, but these came in the afternoon.

yeah me too. i mean that it's weird timing. i was reading my e-mails and had already seen the current one. and when i later went back to my inbox the new/expired e-mail was suddenly there, right after the current one, among the already opened mails.

That's strange too, Buckleysmom. Did you try re-registering for email updates? I have a feeling the site's mail server is going crazy.

It's happening to me too. I just got an email offering Color Picker that was from 031408, except it's 3pm EST now on 031508 and I always get my email alerts in the am . . . What's the deal? Anyone know?

  11. The emails are processed by an external company - so if there is a problem with their systems it would be out of the control of the Giveaway team.

I've pretty much stopped relying on the emails - I "force myself" to visit more frequently to see what is on offer :P

The RSS option is a much more direct way to determine when updates have occurred - they can happen more-or-less in real time. So as soon as the game or program has been updated - you can get an update notification.

  12. Yes I haven't been getting emails properly since the 12th either. Todays software email arrived about 8:37AM rather than about 4-5AM and I received yeaterdays at 12:07AM this morning as well as a duplocate notice for a program from last week at 12:55PM today. I hven't gotten a game email since the 12th. I know there wasn't a game on the 13th but I should have notices for yesterday and today. An explanation would be nice. SO what's going on?

Thanks, BuBBy, for the explanation. The same problem occurred last November, and I'll offer the suggestion I made then:

If you subscribe to the daily email from GOTD, do not delete that email until you receive the next day's GOTD email. Then, if you do not receive "today's" GOTD email, use that last email and click on the GOTD link --> you'll get "today's" GOTD page.

Whenever you receive "today's" GOTD email, just delete the older one. That's what I do, and I haven't missed a GOTD yet.

    Good luck!

    Hi Suze,
That didn't work for me. I've got the last 2 emails they sent and it just brought up Rubicon and Age of Japan.

Actually, Suze, that isn't exactly accurate, at least not for me.

I got one about a half hour before the "real" ones this morning for My Farm, which was offered on March 8th. When I clicked on the name in the email, it opens up to the page for that game:

    http://game.giveawayoftheday.com/me-farme/

Since every game and program has their own page at the site and every email is only about one game or program with a link to that game or program's page, that's where you will end up. There's no redirection involved, which would actually make it more confusing to some people if the link opened to a game or program that wasn't in the email.

There are days like today when there is no game for the day. Where would it go then?

Hi copmom and BZ - I should have been clearer. My suggestion was only for Giveaway of the Day programs, as I don't subscribe to Game Giveaway of the Day. From what you both are saying, it looks like the suggestion doesn't work for GGOTD, and I'm sorry I've confused the issue!

The bottom of GOTD emails always has the same generic link, "http://www.giveawayoftheday.com" and so clicking on it always opens to the current day's giveaway. Maybe the administrators could change the GGOTD emails to do the same thing :)

Thank you, Suze, for clearing that up. The way you were saying to use one email updates over another made it sound like you were talking about clicking on the name of the product, but with that link to the main page, it doesn't matter which email you use to get there.

Actually, the game giveaway emails may have a link to, I just never paid attention. In actuality, I don't even use the links in the emails. I use Avant Browser, which allows for multiple home pages to open and the two giveaway sites are set to them, so they are always there and I sometimes see the sites before I get the emails. I only started this thread because I was getting older emails out of time and was curious if this was happening to anyone else. I never said it was a problem for me.

It's curious that today is the second day in a row there is no game of the day offered. They must be trying to find some game or they are doing maintentance or something. Oh well, I'm in no rush for more games. I have a few to keep me busy.

  18. Brian, we'll only be getting games on weekends now, see this thread:

Edit: Oops..... Guess I was typing while Bubby was posting....lol

  19. The advantages of being an Administrator with a Time Machine.

Of course Brian (and everyone else) there continue to be free games posted for download etc here in the forums as recommended by other GOTD users.

BuBBy, thanks for the link! How sad. But maybe this will give us a chance to catch up on the games we've been getting! Do you know if this means that they will still have the GOTD programs offered daily?

    Posted 3 months ago #
  21. The regular GOTD programs will continue as per normal AFAIK.

I have been using GAOTD for a year. In the last couple of weeks, two or three times, I received no daily email and the next day received the daily email with the missing offer as a second choice, but it had expired. Is there a way to fix this as I missed a program I wanted. EXAMPLE:
    -----------------------
Modify, animate, and manage your Windows desktop icons.

Are you tired of a boring desktop? Would you like to give it more pizazz, and brighten you day?

Desktop Icon Toy is an easy to use desktop icon enhancement tool, which allows you to make many funny but useful patterns out of your windows desktop icons. You can change and restore their layout with just a couple of quick mouse clicks.

    Uninstall programs easily.

Cleanse Uninstaller Pro is a advanced uninstaller that finds and remove even the most stubborn of programs. Uninstall faster, easier and more completely than you do with other programs. Using the Auto Find uninstall function all you have to do is drag and drop the programs icon you want to uninstall onto Cleanse Uninstallers icon and Cleanse will Auto Find the program in the uninstall list and start the advanced uninstaller process.

Well, that's just weird in itself since I've never had more than one offer in any email update I've received. What would be the point of advertising the previous day's offer when it's expired?

JackT, the only thing I can tell you is to not rely too much on the email updates, especially lately, and just visit the sites themselves for the latest giveaway offers. Maybe someday whoever is in control of these email updates will get it right.
