This was posted recently on Gamezebo, but being a newbie, I didn't think to post it here. DUH!

The game is Galapago, and it's quite fun. It's gets more challenging as you progress. It's from Oberon games. Anyway, enjoy. If my link does not work go to Gamezebo.com to the Feb 2008 archive and look for "Steals and Deals"

I posted that link on the Magic Farm Forums!

    I consider that stealing, ROLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get Gamezebo's Newsletter! I like that site! Almost applied for the Job they listed for RA, lol,NOT!!!!!!!!!!

Good game though, I Beta tested it! For Free it's great! However it didn't go in my WANT folder when I uninstalled the Beta!

Sorry Suki...I did a search on Galapago, Chill, Gamezebo, but did not come up with anything. Oh well, I'll get the hang of this some day...lol

I also do some beta testing for various sites, but don't remember seeing this one. I don't do RA anymore, because that would require installing the V2 software. BTW, I downloaded a game from my V1.4 and it did not upgrade me....whew! I bookmarked your link from yesterday anyway.

I didn't post on this site, it was the Magic Farms Forums site.

Your lucky, It messed with my Laptop (talking about the Diamond Detective and Super Puzzle Desserts), and really screwed up the Desktop to the point I can't put V1.4 back on!
I got out my files from RA Tech support and did the uninstall of V2.3, which involves finding the C:\program Files\RealArcade\Installer\uninstall.....then running 4 steps in sequence to get rid of it! I then went back to the main screen and clicked the Eval tab which was still there. Then uninstalled everything to do with Diamond detective. Went to my account to re download Diamond Detective, she wouldn't download, said to put the demo on first. Went to RA searched for game, came up as online, no download. Had to go back to the link on this site to get it back! Lmao, it put the New Version V2.3 back on my pc, with one exception, it was working now! It did not recognize my other games, so spent about 6 hours re downloading them(I believe they were just over writing the files already on my pc)!
So to make a long story short, lol, My Desktop is now running the New version V2.3 (but in running the V2 R2 test, they had changed the installer version so maybe this is what was wrong with it)! I have a list from when they did the change over.
The first version was: Version 2.2.0.142 Installer 2.2.0.149, which ran fine!
The second one was: Version 2.3.0.208 Installer 2.3.0.208, this was the screw up!
The last one is: Version 2.3.0.208 Installer 2.3.0.222, this is the one running fine now on my desktop!
If you want to run the test, just Email tech support for the link for the V2 R2 test.
I tried putting the link in here, but both IE and Firefox came up with "can't be found"(404 error) when I tested it. It works from my link in my Inbox folder(which is named BS Arcade),lol! I think they should post the link on the Forum site over there, so everyone can watch what is happening!

The Laptop was able to get V1.4 back, so I just won't do anymore Evals on it, although I like double testing! Some people only have Laptops. I won't buy a game I can't run on both!

Hey, Suki! I wish I could get that link to test RA2. I don't know what I have; it seems like a hybrid. I got antsy to do evals again, so downloaded an eval on 2/18 and it replaced V1.4 and ever since then, anything I download goes to my drive of CHOICE (not C, but the same one as 1.4 used) -- but RA2 never asked me what drive to install to! How about THAT one! LOL!!!!!
An RA guy is supposed to contact me, but haven't heard anything yet... of course.

All my RA games are located in C:\Documents and Settings\Mary\Start Menu\Programs\Real\Games

Except in place of Mary(which is my name)you would insert yours.

Real is quite sneeky where they hide stuff!

I don't know why the link did not work, maybe I will try again from my Desktop.
I'm sorry to say I am no good at the copy and paste thing, lol!

When I click on the link from my Inbox folder it works!

Good luck with waiting on RA Tech Support, I had to be elevated to Tier 2 Support to get any kind of answer! It took me about 2 months to go no where, lmao! It was me not giving up and just a little of what they said on where to look! Because to fix it, I had to delete(per RA Run) 4 of the programs in the installer\uninstall in C:\Program Files.
Had me send system info, Dxdiag and the results of the V2 R2 test! Then never got another responce! I think I heard "Whoops, she is right, we screwed up!"

You can't get rid of that version just by going thru the add/remove programs, you have to find where they hid the other crap, lol!

I think I just did my first paste job, lol, that worked, I Hope!!!!!

    Suki

EDIT: haalam it works! Click File save as..., then save it to your Desktop! I save mine in my Eval game folder. Just drag it to whatever folder you want to put it in! It will detect your browsers first, then click test! It will bring up what Version you are running, the version of the installer, some more stuff and all the games you have that are Full Client! Have fun!!!!! Should post this on the RA Forums, but the Mod's would delete it, lol, they don't want you to know!

The "Galapago" game splash page looks interesting. However - I appears it will install a toolbar to one's system. I, for one already have more "toolbars" than I care to have.
Please correct me if I'm wrong ....

lwbjag - I did not get a toolbar when I installed. I think that is an option - it's the Chill toolbar, I believe. Seems like I had the option to uncheck it, and no toolbar installed, just the game to my desktop. Kerikaz

  15. At the end of the actual install you have the option to install or not. I didn't. Fun game. I won it once already. :)

  17. Mamutu gave an alarm that this program tried to manipulate other active programs (Behavior/Code Injector)

"graylox" , I was unable to understand your "alarm". Perhaps it refers to the toolbar concern I had ? I un-checked the toolbar option during game install. I didn't get a toolbar or any other pests. McAfee site advisor gives GOTD a false pop-up warning as an example. Long way of saying the game was a safe download for me.

    Posted 8 months ago #
  19. No, I unchecked the toolbar. After installation the Mamutu alarm says, that there is "process manipulation"."code Injection" like it's done by backdoor trojans and rootkits. Here are the other 2 snapshots of the Mamutu alarm :

I did what you said and then clicked test and this is what I got:

ERROR: ReferenceError: createArcadeV2Control is not defined
ERROR: ReferenceError: createArcadeV1Control is not defined

First I tried to click on a game and it said "failed to initialize URL generator"
I think I'm NOT meant to play their games, although I do have Bejeweled and another one on here, full versions.. but those aren't in a 'real' diretory, just on my c: drive under 'games'.

Just went to a link at download.com to get real arcade, and found these 2 on the feedback:

Does DOWNLOAD.COM not check these things first? Disgrace

    SPYWARE ADWARE - users beware!!!!!

    Pros: The games were decent.

Cons: I have spent hours trying to uninstall the spyware associated with this site. I have sent numerous e-mail to RealArcade, but of course with no response. Tells me they know about this and are probably the ones responsible for it. Download at your own risk.

Copmom, There's a couple of conversations going on in this thread. Are you talking about Suki's comments about Realarcade and running the version test? Just want to make sure, as Gallapago is not a RA game.
If it is following up on Suki's information, I've read what you posted above and am suspicious. I've run RealArcade for about 4 years on several computers with XP, XP PRO and Vista and also various Spyware/Adware and AntiVirus programs and have never had any tell me that Real Arcade is adding Spyware, Adware or Virus's to my computers. I feel pretty confident that my computers are safe when I install one of their games. Maybe Suki will have some input on this issue as well, I know she was a long time member also.

Suki: So here I am finally reading you post about the RA version checker - only 2 weeks later. ;>

I tried that link (and saved it to my bookmarks for future reference). It showed I was using Firefox and that I have RA version 2.4.0.141, but it doesn't list my games. Instead it gives some error stuff. I don't care -- I can play all my RA games from the icons I made, so don't need the new RA to have them listed there or on the new website.

One thing I did want to point out to you, Suki -- you mentioned your games are installed to your Documents and Settings (etc) folder -- No, what you described is your Start Menu, not the location where the games are physically installed. I couldn't begin to tell you where the games are actually installed since there are several factors involved as to where they are going. In RA V1.4 there is a Settings feature where you can tell RA where to install your games and where the downloads go. Since you are still using that, look at it. I don't have it anymore, but from memory, I think it is a little blue circle thingy in the top right on the RA V1.4 window. The newest RA 2.x allows you to choose the installation drive, but I don't know what that looks like because my "hybrid" RA 2 install never asked me, they just went to the V1.4 location - Fortunately! LOL!

copmom: Those comments at download.com you listed are from 2005 so they are referring to RA V1.4, and that version is being phased out now. It never did have any "spyware", unless the user considered that anything Real Networks has (Real Player, Rhapsody, Real Arcade) has spyware. In fact, I think the link that CNet gives for Real Arcade is dead now anyway. Some people have tried it recently and it does not work. Go to the Real Arcade forum at http://real.lithium.com/real/board?board.id=RealArcade
and read up on the new RA. Good and bad, it is the future of Real Arcade.
There is also a topic there about the old Arcade with a link to the old RA Player V1.4 so you can still get it if you want it.
