  1. As I said way back 6 (yikes SIX!?!?) hours ago, I don't wish to suffer or cause misunderstandings with you. If you felt it was my intent to "spar", you were mistooken. I have no idea whether you took first umbrage at the Chinese keyboard joke or my anecdote about the translator backfiring or my aside about uncontrolled immigration, but there was/is no "game" afoot. My initial desire was to help YOU with the backtick confusion. I tried my hand at a translation, ragged on US-made keyboards as being less flexible, and even proffered a Windows utility some may not have tried. My handicap is not being able to read between lines, while you may be reading too much. You teasingly needled me with the closeminded intolerant comment to which I responded in a verbose manner, which is my wont when the topic arises. (as it sometimes does by those feeling a bit self-righteous about their own POV)

But for your pressing on with that undeservedly condescending post, I'd have seen no reason to continue, but a cheap shot begs for rebuttal. No wonder Bubby wants to clamp down on this stuff. Sparring over irreconcilable issues never solves anything; hasn't been my entertainment of choice for years; rarely converts anyone's basic beliefs. FWIW, I never found an able opponent when it came to debating such issues, perhaps because I didn't seek to "win" so much as expose polarized zealotry for what it is. Most resorted to emotionalist pleas and illogically fallacious, round robin arguments, then limped away thinking they'd won. Fine by me.

Walls, hands, opposing POVs, choirs, it makes no nevermind. In the end, nobody wins. It's been loads more fun assisting with tech problems, discovering/sharing software and acclimating to feminine teasing. I still can't reliably differentiate between teasing and wholesale skin kicking, though.

  2. Scubadude, when you've had a chance to peruse all the translators, I'd be interested in your assessment. My hazy memory recalls either a long ago published review/benchmarking (or maybe it was an unofficial comparison I did under the influence of caffeine) that proved they definitely were NOT all using the same translation algorithms. Trouble is, unless you are fluent in both languages, there's no way to know how accurate any translation is. An idle time suck is to try several iterations of translations and retranslations. I seem to recall the end result was kinda amusing. Not total gibberish, but not something you'd submit to the United Nations either.

I'd say the most frustrating of those that are still running is Systran. They really want to sell the commercial version, and have constantly changed the format, availability and hurdles to get to their free site. Throw in a conflict between their code and my PC's compatibility... at one point, I couldn't access the completed translation, only got an advertisement.

    Dear Rune
Don't know where u saw offense, misunderstandings, umbrage. Huhh? I must have been asleep. There I was having loads of fun with you. Lighten up! Don't u remember back in November/December we went on like this for a while w FwF. You keep pushing me w new words (You do know I love words, right?), I keep running to the dicco. You have so many new beautiful words (new for me, of course). What else am I going to say? You are ugly? You are too tall?? That's just silly!! It's the only tool I can possible have - Tease u about your words w words! I still haven't gone through all the list of new words from all these posts. I learn a lot of stuff from u, I realized my way of thinking/constructing a sentence is changing. Isn't it brilliant? You should be proud.
Well, if u didn't have fun, you should have! I didn't realized you were miffed. Still, don't understand why you could possible be.
I should've thanked u earlier for the backtick help, sorry if it wasn't clear that I appreciate it.
Like u said, without facial expressions or smileys, it's harder to evaluate. But Rune, c'mon!! You are pulling my leg, right?!? Yes, it has to be!!

Lately I found a Very Good dico for translations. VERY GOOD!!
I've used it for 2 days straight, in January. Then forgot it's name :-(
Been trying to find it since SC asked for a good one earlier.
    I don't understand it, can't find it!!!
As soon as I do I'll post it. I know I have a lot of dicos, but this is ridiculous!
They are all under the same header! Grrr I'll find it, don't worry!!

    =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
ScubaDude: Don't know if you are still interested.
In the meantime I found a better link for my beauty: http://www.picquic.com/sixpac.html

buckleysmom: yes methotrexate was expensive, but now I get it at Wal-Mart and it's cheap there! It falls under their $4 Rx for a 30 day supply.
My daughter just went to her Dr. today and was told she has possibly got osteoarthritis, will wait 'til lab results come back, but her knees are killing her and she's on her feet 8 hrs. a day for her job. Don't know if methotrexate is for other types or not, and I do have to go to the lab every 1-1/2 months to check for any side effects. But, I've been taking that for several years now and no ill effects. Only take it once a week.

And what in the world is going ON in here with all the double talk! I think certain people ought to kiss and make up!!! Or am I reading incorrectly between the lines?? Thought things were supposed to be kept fairly 'light' and in a friendly spirit in here!

    The MOM has spoken!

You are both very prolific in your usage of the languages, but sometimes things can get misconstrued, and lead to people getting the wrong impression! Now, with that said, let's all get back to just keeping things light and having fun! *-)

Runne - I'm checking between a few of those linked, and will try to keep it to 2-translators to cross check from. The best is to do as you have said, "try several iterations of translations and retranslations." also keep it to 2-dictionaries.
To see which work the best, would be to test them on LeKanaw and Graylox to see if the translation comes through with the exact intent.
What I've done is to go from english to french, then take that translation and run it through french to english to make sure my original thought is what it was meant to be.
Even then it still has to be tweaked a little.

  11. Didn't try those translation thingies yet. Do you think that is faster? Or better as mine "very good" English? When I read how they translate to German, I'm not very positive.

LeKanaw, I have a screwdriver similar and cheaper than yours. I comes in handy when I don't have to work in tight spaces. Have you ever seen an antiquity like the drivers below? This set was my uncles but my father has one the same.

maizeydaze, I've had a couple sets just like that. last seen for sale at harbor freight tools, made in india, IIRC.

scubaguy, you mean like this? I think yankee tools got the patent way back... there are drill variants, too. had several.

Goody I have the one you link to,which would be the real yankee, that you push down on,and I have one similar to what LeKanaw shows which would use more of a ratchet/turning motion.Just didn't know how to state it in french?

goody, my driver set is made of high grade steel and brass. It was manufactured by REVCO in New York, NY, USA. Probably in the 1950's or 1960', at the latest.

graylox, those are pretty! Do you wear it on a chain around your neck. I especially like the last tool! What do you call it?

  18. scubydoo please, write it in English - it's eh - eh...it's a case in point why I don't trust those translators

  19. LeK....It's not that I don't like different languages....it's just that sometimes it's hard to keep up as it is without my trying to do it in another language. I'm just amazed at the different keyboards and punctuation and how you guys do stuff in several languages and get into translations.....and so on. I get confused enough trying to understand things in English without trying to understand another language. OTOH I absolutely LOVE different accents. My favorite being southern and second is Australain, and I also like Scottish since we've been watching Late Night with Craig Furgeson. If you guys haven't watched him you MUST. He is the funniest talk show host ever!

Copmom.....sorry to hear about your daughter, I hope they can help her cause this is no fun. I am definately going to talk to doc about that med......gotta go write it down cause I forgot the name already. Somethng your daughter might be able to try is Synvisc (sp) shots. You get a series of 3 shots a week apart, and it puts like a "gel" into the joint where the cartiledge that used to cushion things has worn away. They are expensive, like $700 per shot but if she has decent insurance they would be covered. I've had them 3 times in both knees. The first time they worked for a little over a year, the next 2 times they worked for around 6-8 months. There's no limit to how many times you can get them but you have to wait at least 6 months between treatments. Also, if you're alergic to chicken you can't get them cause they're made from the floppy thing that hangs down from on a roosters chin (name escapes me). It hurts just a little when they put it in, but no where near as bad as the arthritis. My one knee has no cartiledge left, it's bone on bone so that one benefitted the most from the shots. I don't know if it works for all kinds of arthritis either. Oh but I hope thay can do something to help her.

Maizey.....loved the How to Behave video!

Rune and LeK......Awe shucks.......I thought the battle was just getting interesting ....now you say it was all just fun n games.....oh well, guess I'll have to go pick a fight with hubby......he's not gonna like you guys.....

I'm not proofreading this so if there are errors.......put on your big girl panties and deal with it!

    Hi CopMom
Listen, there are a lot of discussions/threads around, about McAfee.
BuBBy already explained the whole thing several times. That's why most of us have switched to WOT - that's what BuBBy uses. Me, being smart, I follow his lead :-D

Search for threads w McAfee and WOT, you'll know everything. If u need more info, just ask, I'll be around.
My set up now is: LinkScanner+WOT
You do have LinkScanner, right? Very important. Real time. There are Vids that explain it all. If u don't have it, I'll dig up the links and post. OK?

    Hi Buckley
Yes, I know Ferguson. Like him. Of the 4 ones: Leno-Letterman-Conan, I like Ferguson best.
But, I hardly watch TV, it bores me.
What I watch daily is the John & Colbert. Intelligent, current, fuuunny!!!
Very different one from the other, yet complement each other. Me likey ;-D

C'mon Buckley, u too can say crazy things in French. It's fun!
We are all learning. You learn a bit of French while I improve my English. You have to help me, otherwise that loony Magician is gonna make circles around my poor brain!
Ok, so u learn a little French, next year, Spanish here we go ;-D

Now, about my panties... What is it exactly I must do?? I'm a bit confused!!!
Is this a new game u are proposing?

    About that screwdriver
I didn't have time to explore everything in their site. Don't know if they still have them all in production.
As I said, I have several. My first I bought ~10 y ago, it's their smallest, a tiny thing, very very handy, goes in all kind of tight & weird places, like motors, washing machines,... Unbeatable!
Then Hubby "offered" me 2 bigger ones. I tell u, can't a girl have her own tools???

SDude, do u have a site so I can see the Yankee? Just wanna see... although I'm sure PicQuic is better NaNaNaNa!!! :D
BTW, do u have photos of yours?
Cause, u know, it's easy to say I have this and that... ;)

I just saw Goody link, I don't have anything like that. But like it already!!!
I only have the old tiny Singer screwdrivers that came w my Mom's sewing machine. Old stuff.

    --------------------
YES, Maizey isn't that thing beautiful!! When Hubby's Grandma died, I went to clean up her apartment. In the back of a drawer, I found a little hammer w a hollow handle.
Later found a screwdriver, then another. Long story short, it was a set, they all fit in the handle. I managed to find everything but the cap for the hammer. Do u have the hammer too Maizey? ~2y ago, I found a little boutique, selling these kits, but instead of brass, they had big bold flowers. Yes, of course I bought myself one!! ;-)
That's why I wanted the Photo/Image thing, so I could upload and show you.
I never used it, don't want to get it scratched. Nobody touches it!!!

I hear a lot of talk about Flickr, ImageShack. Do u know them?? Which one u have?

I have to give some pointers on H2 use the translators for best results.
Starts w what/how "YOU" write in English!!! They can't perform miracles, dontuknow ;-)
Then, if u want to, we can open a thread in the French forum, u post your translations, I'll tell u which is what. D'accord?
