Compatibilty - 32 bit on 64 bit

(5 posts)

  1. Just a quick question, thanks for replies in advance.

Lets talk software, rather than drivers.

Has anyone encountered problems after installing 32 bit software on a 64 bit
    operating system?

Are their any techniques to counteract these problems if they exist?

Usually, virus, firewall software from the bit publishers comes in both flavours
on an install disk so that would not be a problem.

Once you get drivers and such sorted (most vendors have stepped up to the plate for recent hardware) most problems should be able to be dealt with.

  3. Good news then.

Got a deal on an o.e.m. Vista Home Premium 64 bit, so when I get it, then slipstream
it with sp1 using vlite, I hopefully should not have too many problems on the software side.

Some software I got, which is 64bit enabled, IE7proSetup_2.0.x64, Vista_R187a X64, LightScribe Vista 64bit so far, plus most drivers except for my finger print reader. M$ login device.

That currently only has 32bit support.

I am not sure if I will install vista this year, however, I might build a test machine just for it.

  4. Oh.. "Vista" 64bit - why didn't you say... I thought you meant XP64. ;)

Was Windows XP Microsoft's last good OS?
