Yep, I do tend to take things literally. Soft should never be used without a modifier like cotton or landing. :-)
Always had a difficult time measuring nuance when reading between lines. Sounds contradictory, what with my love of word games and puns.
The last people I want to upset are those I've come to enjoy hanging around, which explains why I try to make amends even when none is required.

funkymom - I'm very disappointed in you for posting that video,I thought you had more class, your not being fair. How do you expect me to enter maizeydaze new game "Who Is It" Now that you've given away my identity, and all the ladies will know what I look like!! LoL!! (check my profile)
By the way,it's difficult to see in the video, and not to sound like I'm bragging ,but my Squeegee is much bigger than that!! Bwhahahahaha!!!

Rune, nope, not specifically writing to you. I think all of us are used to tonogue in cheek, I'm guilty of it too. Hummmmm, "ladies of the night".. that sounds a bit risque. As for exchanging ideas on how to torture the husband, one good one is take off with the TV remote in your purse and go about your business.. it will drive him crazy! LOL

Regarding kitty, I don't think it's ringworm because that's not an open wound and this was originally bleeding. Now it's just a bright red area, and yes, where we live, we need outdoor cats. No more wharf rats or field mice! When I called the vet the gal there said it was OK for the peroxide and/or neosporine. Was even told to put a bit of vaseline on top of the peroxide or neosporin to 'cover' it and vaseline was safe for kitty to lick. And nooo don't have deep pockets.

My jaw is still unhinged from the thought of a missing remote. Joke about planet killing NEO's, plague, Depression, even yell "we're out of chips" right before the big game... but do not steal the remote!
As I recall, someone else might have used ladies of the evening, perhaps on another thread (definitely a risque connotation) so I went with LotN. Be happy I've almost purged "girls" and "gals" from my vocabulary. A true renaissance man in the making, yes?

  5. This is for RM Sorry to hear about your loss. This is a site about Pet Loss. I have sent it out to many a friend who has lost a pet. One that even lost their pet during the poisoned food from China incident. :(

As far as "men bashing".... I don't need no stinkin' thread. :) Guess the thick skin came from all those blonde jokes I have had to endure through my lifetime.

I seem to remember it was either Graylox or I who first came up w "Ladies of the Night" concept bc we were here, having fun 2geder, it was night. Maybe Funky was around too, it was some time back, memory failing... It was always night where one of the group was, so the term made us laugh. Since we couldn't sleep (different for ea, me it's awful persistent insomnia) we were here keeping ea other company.

So it was NOT RM that came up w it.
For the Control Freak (heum, not naming names, he knows who he is!!) about the remote, can't ea have it's own?!? ;-)

Hellôôôô my most dear Ambassador, it's coming!! Opened my wrist, hard to do anything. Sorrrryyyyy =²o²=

For SC: I'm watching u, behave!! Even if I'm temporarily incapacitated, u'r not safe!!!

Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

"What in bag?" asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, "It's a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband."

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two.

Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said:

    "Good trade ....."

funny maizey! i didn't get nuthin'(except for getting rid of the loser-and as i've said before, i don't hate men, i just hate my ex).

rune- you need to get some armor, you are too sensitive. we all love you here and we all get you.

i'm pretty sure the ladies of the night thing started in response to a story whiterabbit was telling about insulting a woman.

scuba- i'm sorry, but i told you to have the money ready (in small, unmarked bills) by the deadline. i warned you that i would come clean and i always follow through. btw- i never claimed to be classy......after all my name is funkymom.

Flynn staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy,
Paddy. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Mary. He tiptoed as
quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but
misjudged the bottom step. As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his
body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each
back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful. Managing not to
yell, Flynn sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to
see that his butt cheeks were cut and bleeding. He managed to quietly find a
full box of Band-Aids and began putting a Band-Aid as best he could on each
place he saw blood. He then hid the now almost empty Band-Aid box and shuffled
and stumbled his way to bed. In the morning, Flynn woke up with searing pain in
both his head and butt and Mary staring at him from across the room. She said,
"You were drunk again last night weren't you?" Flynn said, "Why you say such a
mean thing?" "Well," Mary said, "it could be the open front door, it could be
the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood
trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly.....it's
all those Band-Aids stuck on the hall mirror.

Maizey - Great stuff - Keep 'em commin' !!

copmom - I have a terrific grey "tuxedo" cat (formerly feral), that is now a gentle and loving member of the "inside only" pride that rules this house. We took her in after her mother - an inside/outside cat we had been feeding for a few months - brought her along for breakfast one morning. She was about three months old at the time and quickly adapted to life on the inside. While her mother continued to come and go at will, we decided the kitten should be kept inside (kept safe!) if she was to be a "keeper" as we had lost far too many to local traffic. That seemed to be what the Mom had in mind, as she continued to come and go without her. She's now 13yo and sleeps with me every night.

As for our injured puss - if the wound looks "beefy red" - that is a sign of good healing and if it is clean and uncrusted, it is time to stop the peroxide. If it isn't infected - not swollen, tender or draining - you can stop the antibiotic ointment - she will keep it clean by licking. If it looks swollen and feels like there is fluid under the wound or is draining pus, it needs to be opened and she needs antibiotics by mouth or IV - ointment won't help. That's the best I can do from here - unless you can get a picture.

Delenn & Funky, thank you, too. As I'm rarely open about my loss, guess the ladies of the night cast a spell. Does it wear off??

Lekanaw, my powers of recall have always been poor, bordering on rotten. With literally hundreds of thousands of messages from dozens of forums rattling in my head, little wonder it's tough to follow threads stretching over days and weeks. Long ago I took to using qualifiers - "as I recall" - rather than making flat out claims of knowing fer sure. According to a Google-assisted memory refresher, a month back wabbit referenced the phrase -
    lady of the night.

Then, mischievous Funky (who I think learned the art from Graylox) teasingly used "ladies of the night" and also night owl, my personal favorite for we who live the night.

A few posts later, Vampire and then you echoed Funky's sentiments.

As little devils are wont to do, I was tempted to chime in by noting that the expression "ladies of the evening" is the colloquial nawty phrase around this part of the US, but apparently elected not to. Imagine that, showing restraint. Since the ladies seemed fine with "night", I did add it to my lexicon and have used it several times since. Always fascinating to see how the brain works. (or doesn't) So, I'd give "first prize" to Funky, or Wabbit, or maybe call it a tie.

Happy Ides of March, all. Enjoy your weekend.

Face, it's good to hear success stories, but they do seem few and far between. I haven't read any studies, but have heard a lot of anecdotes about older cats being totally unruly. Along with the "luck" factor, likely the age of the feral has much to do with outcome. The very young haven't yet fully imprinted, their nascent primitive side hasn't been unlocked. My biggest concern would be its exposure to the virulent diseases now running amuck in both feral & domesticated feline populations. A ticking bomb that doesn't go off until years later.

The event did get me to investigate grief & the grieving process. Interesting subject. As a wise rune recently observed, the brain's fascinating.

I'm not usually a "lady of the night" but I must set my alarm nightly now to let my old dog out. As of late, Maizey has not been able to hold her bladder through the entire night. To top it off, she's been sleeping through the daylight hours, only waking for short periods. Since she lost her eyesight and much of her hearing she's taken up barking happily when she is awake. Well now she's become nocturnal and must wander around the house barking in the dark. That is why I'm awake now.

face.. thank you for the feedback! Yes, that IS a good description of meow-meow's wound, "beefy red", so I will take your advice and quit putting anything on it and let nature take it's course. That's how we first got her, we'd been feeding mama and one day she led 5 little bitty kitties here to be fed. The one we let in was the bravest of them all... and allowed me to pet her after some patience, then feed her by hand. She's learning not to have those dang claws out now when we play!
Sad to say one of them got in our fenced front yard and our pit/beagle Scooter, got it... he must have broken it's neck shaking it. Here's Scooter: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg264/copmom_photo/Scooterzoom.jpg Just glad I didn't see it actually happen! We sadly dug a little grave and buried it, and I made a little cross out of 2 popsicle sticks! Yes, silly I know, but we do silly things. Later down the road we heard him barking strangely, ran out, and he had another kitty. We saved that one. She walked with a limp for awhile (left rear hip), but now she's doing fine, so we started calling her Peggy (for peg leg). One is solid black. For some reason we haven't seen mama lately, but last time we did she was very, very pregnant again! She might be busy with a new litter! My daughter said she saw a lady out in a yard feeding about 20 cats one day, and pictured that was going to be me some day!

mischievous Funky (who I think learned the art from Graylox), -
thank you, oh wise sage, to hear that from you is really a great honor to me. At least those 62 years have got a meaning...someone has learned from me...
