It will allow you to post a link to a specific post from any thread in the forum. If you click on the # symbol and watch the add.bar at the top of your page the number will change to the post you want to link to,you then just copy and paste it in your post.

By the way after I made my original post I went to bed,so did'nt see it untill later, and your reference to free diving is correct, done with only mask, snorkle and fins. It's obvious we both share a love of the sea.I did a lot of fishing with my Dad when I was younger but when I became a diver my only interest was what was underwater.

i've been showing copmom's 'what is it' to my ex-mom-in-law and my step-dad, who are both 'flower people' (not hippies, but people who enjoy flowers). we are all confused. the only guess we have (actually, my step-dad) is some sort of seed/seedling that might be floating/flying around. i, personally, think it looks like some sort of fruit, just starting to bud.

    how'd we do?

Not a clue what it's name is, but to me it looks more like a really elaborate sub-blossom with the main flower petals behind it, folks.

look at the orange splotches around the left and behind the white 'petals'.

Also, the central 'fruit' appears more like tightly clustered stamens- note the oval dots of different color at the ends of fibers.

I suspect this is an early stage of blossoming and they'll spread out shortly. petunia? water lily? kudzu?
    -----------------------

as an addendum to the 'plants I was watching change',

the bright green 'brushes' on that bush are how it makes new branches.

there are all sorts of little cones on the taller bush next to it.

the evergreen with all that pollen has tightly clustered cones, too. all on the ends, though. odd.

the wood spurge is pretty stable, though ants rather than bees are it's current customers.

    and here's the japanese maple.

Good morning all. Not helleborous, not seedling flying around, and not water lily or sub-blossom, and not fruit of any kind. And not kudzu.. all good guesses though.

Paulga, you like that wheelbarrow? We just got it last summer, the bucket is plastic so it won't rust, and yes, 2 wheels so it won't tip over!

OK.. I've strung you on long enough... is not a clematis hybrid, but you did have some good guesses.
Here's a full picture of the flower: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg264/copmom_photo/public/Smallcamera5-2008018.jpg
It is known as a Tulip Poplar tree, or liriodendron tulipifera

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_Poplar you can scroll down to the bottom of this url and there are more pictures of the leaves, etc. It's VERY sappy and sticky, which is why we stopped parking the car under it when it's in bloom. In the winter it's safe. We've got tiny saplings popping up all over the place, some we leave, some we pull out or mow down. They are very prolific!

copmom, that's a very neat looking bloom. I don't recall seeing any in my area. They may be here. I don't know. I saw your closeup and hints, but didn't even know where to start looking for an answer. Good one! :)

Paulga, When are you going set that new camera on "macro" and submit a cropped closeup for the game? Huh?

That's quite a pack of dogs you've got there! How do you keep them and the cats all fed? Are they fish eaters? That must be why you spend so much time fishing. :)

maizeydaze........nope! and not a macro either,a clue! you may keep guessing, or look for the picture? i have had lots of visitors here at home tonight, running around in circles, the house is mostly quiet, except when someone rings my doorbell then the dogs bark, and only then, in this house you can hear the clock ticking, no traffic passing as i live in a cul-de-sac, only three houses and a church and a small park, yet close enough to a small town, even it is quiet?......still no complaints.

is it some kind of tusk from an animal?

Is it a snake shedding it's skin that just swallowed an elephant? It looks like it's heavy since it's leaning on chicken wire and a metal railing.

~Paulga~ Now, I am confused! I realized that PG-01 was not a macro. But, visitors running in circles, barking dogs, ticking clock, cul de sac, and a small church? Are these all clues? Look for the picture? I looked at your pictures and can't see anything that looks like that root. Humph! :(

maizeydaze.......i don't know how you can find those links to fit with words in my post? nope, not a Walrus tusk nor a rhino tusk, or any tusk, but like a tusk, ah so you looked at SOME of my pictures? but you did not spot it? another clue! its where sukibabe said, "i want that......"! i should be enjoying this, maybe it will grow on me!

Paulga, No, not sleeping. I searched and searched and searched for a picture with that thing that first you say to copmom that it's a tusk, then to me it's not a tusk. Is it a husk? Apparently, this picture is something that copmon should recognize?

Your movie is nice. Did you only put it together today? Is that tusk-like non-tusk in this movie? Good job!
