next up: G What is it n018.
Posted 4 months ago # -
A piece of something made from powdered metal.
Posted 4 months ago # -
nope, not sintered. steel, I think, but they used to be cast iron. they're seen in pairs. this is part of the top and part of the side.
Posted 4 months ago # -
A door hasp (that needs sanding?)
Posted 4 months ago # -
no, much larger, not found in homes, no moving parts, much longer than it is tall or wide.
Posted 4 months ago # -
a blade for a push mower or part of a roller skate adjuster?
Posted 4 months ago # -
think far bigger yet- that sample is probably a couple inches across. not a personal item, seen when out and about.
Posted 4 months ago # -
Part of a tin roof?
Posted 4 months ago # -
too thin. minimum thickness of over an inch. very rarely on private property, though some industrial plants have 'em.
Posted 4 months ago # -
longer than any roof, you can tell how much they're used by how shiny it is on top?
Posted 4 months ago # -
perhaps a sample extending farther across?
Posted 4 months ago # -
y'all give up?

Goody, looks like there is not enough detail in this object to really make a good guess. Is there something that I'm missing?
Is it a fork from a lift truck (heister)?
Posted 4 months ago # -
Is is a train rail (track)?
Posted 4 months ago # -
maizey.. I bet you got it with that last guess! Goody has been taking a lot of railroad cars, bridges, etc.!!
Posted 4 months ago # -
yeppers, that's it- the top of a well-used rail. here's a more oblique shot I took a few hours ago.
and right on the terminology too- the track is 2 rails and all the stuff that holds it up and in place, and a rail is just one of the top parts the wheels ride on.
here's a view south down the tracks past the local siding to the bridge over pass creek, a martha washington geranium and a morning glory.
you ain't seen a fraction of the pix- been too busy trying to figure out how why most of my batteries won't last for beans to go over the new photos.
Posted 4 months ago # -
side note- met an old geezer that confirmed that the wooden trestle and all it's timbers have been in place since before 1936.
also, notice the old poles and glass insulators are still in place!
Posted 4 months ago # -
Thanks for the pics, Goody! Nice crisp details. That camera and you make a great team! LOL
Posted 4 months ago # -
I've still got one of those glass insulators! As for camera batteries.. that's what I love about this Sony Cyber-shot.. I've only have to recharge the battery once since I've gotten it, only takes 4 hours, and believe me I'm using it a lot! My other 2 cameras go through batteries like crazy, although I have gotten a little longer life out of the Energizer "lithium".. the pkg. says "lasts up to 7x's longer in digital cameras". You might want to try those. The rechargeables don't last as long as regular batteries except you can use them again and again.
I've gotta post some pics.. just need to have some uninterrupted time when the grands aren't here. Uploaded so many the other day now need to sort them all out between my brother coming here, the grands, flowers, etc. My morning glories are really blooming like crazy.

Thanks, maizey- I really like it and the results- and now I've tried out CHRK I suggest you do too, for the battery % meter if nothing else! takes a super tiny fraction of the card for the latest allbest build and using cardtricks makes it super-easy.
---------
copmom, the thing is I know NiMH batteries will work extremely well, the pair of 1700 mah that came in the hp (3 years old, just like the camera) give me over 350 shots (way past alkaline AA's 250- and that's why the A-series, they all use standard AA's) but the 2700 mah 'forever' brand I have 16 of I haven't managed more than 40 shots from.
about the same for the even older (1999) radio shack 2500's- until I gave them a couple of 'conditioning' full-drain-and-charge cycles, then the 1 gig card ran out before they did.
including 30 shots in full 1.3 shots/sec continuous drive and 4 movie clips.
Lithium are great indeed (light, too) but oh-my-god expensive around here. 3 pair of dependable NiMH and a pair of just-in-case alkalines would be all I'll need and some to spare.
the canon hackers resource kit (just as easy to load/unload as the site says, just flip the lock slider on the card- tons of cool stuff) can adjust the full/warning/drained voltage points, so it may just be the camera needs tweaked a few millivolts to accept a slightly lower working voltage from the forever brand NiMH batteries and all will be shiny.
I'm working on it. I'm a tech, I'll beat the problem however I have to.
if I have to hand-pick pairs of batteries, so be it.
(I have at least 3 of those insulators- green, blue, and clear)
