I downloaded the bowling game today but I have Vista and apparently, that's not a listed program. Also, tried but got a video error message. I just want to wipe it off of my drive, but there's no uninstall file and it's not listed in my Uninstall option folder. Can someone please tell me how to get this cleanly off my computer?

    thx

I'm not sure about vista, but this is the way it installed on XP,click on start then click computer, then click on the C: drive and look for a folder named GAMES,click on GAMES folder,if its there then just delete it.
The last couple of games from GAOTD have not come with uninstall options, and they are not installed in the programs folder. If the above did not do it, then try doing a search, using the game name in the search box and delete the files that way.

Heres the same thing stated another way by another member.

"Some downloads, like this one, will automatically install to C:\Games\ (it shows that it's doing that in the install pop up AND tells you that in the README)
NOT in Documents, in C:\Games\ .... unless you SPECIFICALLY change the path to a preferred location which you can do using the BROWSE button on the popup."

Hope this helps,if not post your outcome and someone will be along to help.

Thanks, but the issue is not that I can't find it, I can....just that I want to properly uninstall it. It's NOT listed in the UNINSTALL PROGRAMS system so I can't do it there, and it doesn't come with uninstall option, so now what?

PS: you're saying that by just deleting the file that was downloaded it cleans EVERYTHING out of the registry and other debris that programs leave behind? Uninstall is quite different than just deleting the exe program. Am I missing something?

Implication sounded to me more like 'that's it', as in, it doesn't do anything outside that spot.

at least it wasn't written to. it may be able to run under win32s, but no bets.

I'm betting vista users might be able to run stuff like this with autorun.inf in the root if burned to a cd. perhaps. or iso'd and mounted as a drive. wit compatible and a prayer, maybe.

It's not supposed to care where it is, seen many like it. Swift software back a ways.... plug-in boxes was the approach- should have recognized it earlier.

And no, not the downloaded file, the final 'install' directory- and it wasn't installed, it was just dumped there.

ok, so putting your sentence frangments together :-), it sounds like you're saying that it's a program self-contained and doesn't effect anything like registry. I just dbl-clik to run it and bingo, or bowling as it were? So, I find the zip file, the unzipped files and just delete them all and you think I'm as clean as before I downloaded and installed?

rstock2- i think you've got it. you will learn (or, it seems, just have learned) that goodgodt speaks a technified version of english. i gotta love him, he is super helpful, but i barely understand him.

"technified version of English"? Are you kidding? At the very least needs an assessment for a learning disorder. Attention deficit and a few other things. But, heck, if he's successful and happy then good for him. The info was helpful...thanks everyone.

I'll not download anything free from that sight unless it says it's Vista compatible. Certainly, not the games.

So, I'll just delete the zipped and unzipped files and I should be "clean" again? I feel so dirty. :-)

As I look around this site, there seems to be an enormous number of unhappy people wanting to uninstall programs that don't work. I have a friend I discussed this with (I sent him the same post I sent above) and he sent me this response. I hope it helps others...feel free to copy and put on other sections of this forum if you think it might help:

For zips, you have to think of zips differently than they used to be.
With XP (and Vista) zip files are just folders with compression added.
Most programs you would buy commercially have conformed to the microsoft standard. They put things in C:\program files, they give you an MSI file that automatically puts things in the add/remove programs (or for Vista, Programs and Settings). They also create a general log in the event viewer.
Independent and free programs don't feel the need to conform to the MS standard. So, they don't end up in the control panel. If you want to uninstall them, you might get lucky to find an uninstall (sometimes named unwise.exe in the folder they were installed to). Otherwise you're more or less out of luck for your old programs that you've already added.
In the future, you can create an uninstall in control panel. To do this, go to the Programs in control panel and tell it you want to add a program. You find the EXE (even inside the zip folder) and it will remember what files are installed and what needs to be removed later.
It adds an extra step of work when you install a program, but if you're going to uninstall later you're happy you did it.
