Does anyone know of a good screensaver creator/maker that is free? Specifically I am looking to create a screensaver slide show of my photos for my computer.

    Thanks.

You could try this site's collection of Desktop "Randomizers" -

Note that this place calls itself the FREEdownloadcenter, which simply means it's a conduit for free and shareware products:
    http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Shell_and_Desktop/Desktop_Randomizers_and_Changers/index.html

If you like a really busy monitor and can spare the resources (and like dog slobber), this might be an interesting way to have that ugly mutt perpetually lick the backs of all your icons -

I downloaded this one a few months ago. It works, but I found I actually prefer a static picture of, well, er ... anywho, haven't gotten around to sizing a bunch of shots.

Softpedia has a collection, too, called desktop ENCHANCEMENTS -

    This one's free -

Not Free. I've seen screensavers made with these 2 apps.

I have made slideshows with my pictures just by opening My Pictures folder and clicking on view as slideshow. It will then show up under your screensavers.

  5. Well, I realize that the original request was for a screen-saver slide-show maker but since we have moved onto slide-show makers in general I thought I would mention my favorite. My Favorite slide-show maker is PhotoStory my Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/photostory/default.mspx This a wonderful program that is really powerful and easy to use. I have been making slide-shows for our vacations and family events for quite awhile now and everyone seems to like my finished shows. It has several different quality outputs (all WMVs) that make it easy to play on older computers as well as new ones. So if you have not ever tried this program you should at least give it a look.

Thanks for a lot of suggestions but none of them were useful. I am looking for a free screensaver creator. I will check back for more suggestions.

Sorry cdundee007 I don't understand what you actually will have?
Most of the above suggestions are scr.-makers.
You can use some or most graphics tools as a screensaver maker, e.g.:

    http://www.irfanview.com/index.htm
    http://www.acdsee.com/

    or try this :
    Dave's AV (Audio/Video) Screensaver
Create a custom screen saver from audio and video files. Dave's AV Screensaver supports any format supported by Windows Media Player, and will allow multiple files to be looped continuously from a user specified playlist. .NET Framework 1.1+ required.

i agree with graylox, some of the suggestions clearly state, they do make screensavers, so i am wondering too, if you could specify again, cdundee007, what you need?

Thanks all and Graylox. I was actually looking for a free software that would for instance let me create a screensaver (.scr) file of my pictures. I could then send this .scr file to others (friends and family) who can set it as a default screensaver. I know that one could put pictures in My Pictures folder and see the slideshow but then I would have to send my pictures to others. Instead I wanted a single file screensaver to distribute. I will try IrfanView, PhotoStory and Daves-av-ss. Thanks all.
