Sky Aces - where's the proof of registration

  1. Okay, welcome to my life... just this weekend I bragged about never having trouble registering and the very next game I d/l has me wondering - is it registered or not? GAOTD activation went smoothly, but I see no proof that it's "registered" (to GAOTD). Having never d/l'd a flight sim before, should most of the airplane choices still be marked "LOCKED" if we're indeed getting the full version?

This looks like it'll be a really fun game to play if only to crash & burn near the White Cliffs of Dover on a foggy day imagining I'm Walter Matthau in my favorite movie - HOPSCOTCH. But I sure don't want to wake up tomorrow and discover it's not registered, cause this is a KEEPER!!

  2. Rune I haven't installed it yet, so I don't know the being-registered-look. But I recognized the last days, that the GGAOTD site launches after the successful activation.
Did I say that the music is great ? No ? It is great!

  3. Thanks, graylox, glad you're enjoying the music!

Hopefully Bubby or Wabbit will have an answer on the registration question (don't know why the guys behind the curain erased my post on the game board but left #11's up there); but now I've got another larger beef... color me totally P-O'd!!!

Upon closing the game, I discovered that all my freaking desktop icons (80 of 'em) have been completely jumbled and left-justified. I cannot find a damned thing, refresh doesn't reposition them nor did a reboot. (never bothered to drill into WinXP to figure out whether Gates hides an .ini for the layout that I could copy and protect)

I rarely play games that require full screen or expect me to remember 400 bloody special key commands, so maybe I am at fault for pressing a wrong combo of keys; regardless, this game is officially dead to me. Very sad.

UPDATE: Thanks Bubby. The event pushed me to seek an answer to the verrrrry irritating discombobulated desktop icon layout dilemma. Several different solutions including FREE ICON RESTORATION UTILITIES that others who use different versions of Windows might find helpful if their desktop layouts keep getting trashed-

  4. I believe the game was originally distributed on CDRom. When running setup, the game comes pre-activated (ie. no separate/additional codes/keys are required).

    Tally Ho.

Would have been nice to try the game, but alas, mine does not want to work. I unzip and run the setup, but just before activation is complete I get a message that say the zip file has been moved, changed or truncated and that I must redownload. I did redownload, but still have the same problem. It does say that activation was sucessful, but I can't find the game on my pc. Oh well, looks like I got another bummer.

  6. Stunner, it's a large download. Are you using a download manager that protects against d/l interruptions? Did you say in another thread that you have an older system? This might not like old graphics cards or nearly obsolete OS's.

    Hi RunesageMagi,

It's normal for most of the planes to be locked in this sort of game. You unlock the planes by completing missions successfully. I'm wondering whether there's a way of unlocking them like there was with Trabi racer. some bright spark came up with an easy fix to open up all of the circuits and cars in that game. It's just knowing where to look in the registry. (Which I don't; though I did try changing some of the settings in the registry, it didn't change anything).

I checked through the registration and there is no references to the Publisher Incagold and only one reference in the HKey current user which was mirrored in the HKey users hive under Media Research Group, who I presume are the developers. The only data contained within the hive was data regarding the preferences, which would automatically be transfered to the registry, so I would think BuBBy is right in his assumption. I think I'll put it on a CD and see if it'll play on the other computers.

    To Stunnerfairy:

The game installs to c:/games unless you changed the install path. Thougyh you wont find any shortcuts in either the start menu or on the desktop. You will have to sort these yourself, by right clicking and either using the send to command or create a shortcut and move that to the desktop and/or the startmenu programs folder which is located within the documents and settings folder on the root (C:) drive. If you have multiple profiles just put the shortcut in the one that says All Users/start menu/programs and maybe one in the Administrators/start menu/programs Then you'll find the game shortcut in the start menu. There is no uninstaller, but as the only registry keys are the preferences, you just need to delete the games folder and if you want to get rid of the start menu shortcut just ight click on it and select delete.

If you meant that you can't find the game on your computer because it didn't install, perhaps try downloading from the mirror site??? I hope the above helps.

By the way I mention in the comments section that this is a game I've been looking for since I played the demo. I was wrong. It's very similar, but the one I remember had different maps and the planes were easier to destroy. Also the scenery was more interesting. you could blow up every building as well. I still can't remember the name of it. :( so if anyone knows of similar games to this I'd really appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance.

and make sure to download elsewhere and under a different name so a cached version doesn't bite ...

    hardware/os..,.
    Windows 98se/ME/2K/XP ok.
    500Mhz CPU not hard
    32MB Free RAM easy
    85MB Free HD Space mmm.

    800x600 w/16bit color 3D Video w/8MB VRAM
    could be a stumbling block

I copied this onto a CD then transferred it over to one of my other computers and it worked perfectly. It had even saved my progress. If you like the music, there are three MP3 tracks found within the music folder called Armaggeddon, Jump and Intro. Further to my comment about this not being the game that I thought it was, all (or so it seems) of the buildings are destructible,(as were the buildings of the game I still can't remember the name of) so if you want plenty of explosions just shoot away at everything, lol. It's got to be related as there are so many similarities.
