Important! Monday morning news and questions - Giveaway@Mac? Can we do that?

(26 posts)

  1. Hello everyone,
Today I have some news for you and also I`m going to ask for help.

Well, Giveaway of the Day has been around for quite some time, and all this time we had emails coming and coming. Some of those emails were asking if there if we have plans to offer Mac OS-based version of our service and TBH we had none.
Mac OS X is a completely different world for us, and difficulties of starting Mac Giveaway of the Day were (and still are) significant, that`s why we tried to stick to Windows family.
Well, those emails kept coming and finally we decided to give the idea of Giveaway@Mac a second thought.

What does that mean? Basically, we will try and start this Mac version, but it will be a bit different from our regular versions. First of all, we would really need community help. You see, we can code the whole activation system anew, we can design a few additional pages and we can buy a few Macs (already did, actually), but that`s not going to be a Mac version of GAOTD but rather some frame for it.

What we lack at the moment and what we need help with is a Mac community here -both visitors and developers. We do not have contacts in the Mac world, so thats someting Im going to ask: do you have those? Do you know someone that uses Mac and could be interested in visiting our website? If yes, let him/her know.
Do you know a company or a developer that makes software for Mac OS? If yes, let him/her/them know about us.
We actually do check our software submit form, and we look thru our email boxes overloaded just like us.

Please also note that this Mac version wont be Mac Giveaway of the Day immediately, lets be realistic here: it`ll be Mac Giveaway of the Week then Mac Giveaway of the half-Week then Mac Giveaway of a few days...
    /Lord Farquaad mode on:
...and so on and so forth. Some of your Macs may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.
/Lord Farquaad mode off. I`m not THAT evil.
    *evil grin*

Well, thats all for now and lets see what we can do together.

    Yours,
    Slava and GAOTD team

  2. Slava,

I know a lot of fan boys of the Mac Persuasion. :) In fact, I know an entire forum At BroadBand Reports. I will post a link to your post tomorrow (after my dentist appt.) in their forum and see what kind of response I can drum up for you.

I found about GAOTD from their Software Forum; they still have a link there. :) So turn about fair play.

FYI, I know nothing about Mac's but I think it's a great idea. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be PC vs. Mac wars. It might keep the mods busy a bit at first.

  3. It wont:) I switched to Windows at v.2.0@i80286 and Ive got my DVD with Vista x64 on Saturday. Anyone starting a war against my fav.OS turns my Lord Farquaad mode back on:)

Thanks a lot for your help:)

like delenn, i don't know "mac" about macs. but i have been talking about this site and my mac friends and family have felt left out.

fwiw- i think it's a great idea, even if i won't benefit from it directly. i will gather all the glory for turning folks on to this site. :D

Oh great & mighty KeyMaster, as one who ignored the pleadings of publishers and editors to switch and thus knoweth but little of Apple/Macs (having foundeth their OS and layout to be as distasteful as a BigMac, and their selection of programs as tasteless as fries that be no longer cooked in real lard), I can but surmise that your idea is a just and noble one that shall bringeth joy and light into their lonely world.

As the humble yet insightful vassal that I be, I entreat thee to consider dividing thy forum database well and truly into two separate and distinct realms. Especially if thou dost not deploy a much more efficient and plebeian-friendly search engine than the one that now vexes us greatly, thy kingdom may quickly fall into confusion, turmoil and discontentedness. I shuddereth to think of the already confounding search results becoming further disordered by dozens, nay hundreds, of Mac-related hits. Enabling commoners such multiple choice advanced search terms as but not limited to -
    by PC/Mac,
    by date,
    by poster,
    by exact term or phrase
wouldst surely endear you to the masses... er, well, at least to me. :-)

  7. Ive got my DVD with Vista x64 on Saturday.

It looks lovely sitting in a wooden frame on the mantle behind glass. One day, the world may be ready - and then you can break glass and install :P

I bought my copy of Vista 64 basck in September,. installed it, had so much trouble with it including disappearing DVD and CD writer/rewriters as well as problems with the bios that I uninstalled it. I only bought it so that i could play Crysis with DX10 graphics. Apparently the frst service pack is due shortly. Maybe i'll try it again.

  10. Well, it seems that people are more worried about my relationships with Vista than Mac GAOTD so far:)
Actually, Vista x64 is ok (for me). Starts fast (note that I have Vista Aero UI maxed out), no hardware problems so far, good UI, useful gadget panel, etc.
I like it. It`s the best Windows version so far and the easiest one when it comes to installation and configuration.

  11. As for Linux, well...I`m not sure, since the majority of the Linux software I know is open-source/free.
p.s. and Linux killed my Vista and killed self later on when I tried to create dual boot system:) I`m angry at penguins atm.

    Bonjour Key Master

I absolutely agree w Runes, but can't be so poetic in my writings about it.

PLEASE, *DO* something about it. Soon.
It's mightily infuriating/frustrating/enraging to search anything around here!!
I have other words that I wont be using in polite company...

And it's a bit ridiculous for a site as big as this one to not have a better performing Search Engine!

I'll let the mac people know of this that I know. Maybe they won't be feeling so left out in the cold anymore? By the way, I recently had sent a virus warning to all those on my email list and one friend replied they don't have to worry about such 'things' as they have a Mac. One thing I've noticed, whenever someone sends me an email I can always tell they are on a Mac.. the email comes through with loads of ????? scattered throughout. Maybe Mac is questioning what we send?? LOL
    {{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} to all
And, LeKanaw, on top of the page I saw a search box, and guess what it showed when I typed your name in? All about your dancing movie!

I have giveaway on my poker Blog, was looking to see if Mac supported Firefox.
    Came across this site.
Will add giveaway is going to launch a Mac Version, limited at first.

The poker site itself only accepts IE, but the players site accepts both.

Right, I see where your online name comes from now Delenn :)

I've never been a Mac, user, but I wish you all the luck in the world that the project is a big success. I’ll mention it on other forums I hang out on just in case there are Mac users/developers/distributors lurking. :)

  25. Yes, WR, I am a Sci Fi Fan from the 50/60's. :) That's why Her Royal Clowness AKA The Mango Princess or Mangoette calls me "Ambassador".

I am not a Mac user either but Since GAOTD has given me many a wonderful free game or program and I have met some wonderful people also, I figured I would give them a hand if I could. I don't mind sharing the days with the Mac users at all.

  26. Btw your request for better search engine was noted:)

    And thanks a lot!
