It's true! Why, if you don't believe me, read the email I just got. And so what, if he forgot my name, anybody can forget someones' name...... right???

    LT. COL. RALPH HARLAND
    COMMANDER OF FIRST BATTALION
    ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT

    Dear,

I am Lt. Col. Ralph Harland, a British officer and the commanding officer of the first Battalion of the Royal Irish Regiment attached to UN Peace Keeping Force in Iraq. As you may know, everyday here, there are several cases of insurgents attacks and suicide bombs going on.

Me and my Partner, Mr. King managed to move funds belonging to some demised persons who were attacked and killed through insurgent attacks. The total amount is US$7.5 Million dollars in cash. We want to move this money to you, so that you may keep and safeguard the fund for us until when we come over to meet with you.

We will take 70%, my partner and I. You take 30%. No strings attached, just help us move it out of Iraq and safeguard it, Iraq is a war zone. You can as well invest it in any profitable Business or Mortgage depending on how long I and my partner will still have to remain here in Iraq.

We planned on using Diplomatic Courier to ship the money out in two large metallic boxes, using diplomatic immunity. If you are interested I will send you the full details; our aim is to find a good partner that can be trusted to assist us receive this money for good. Can you be trusted?

When you receive this letter, kindly send me an e-mail signifying your interest including the following details; your full name, home and office address, contact telephone and fax number for the start.

The intended transaction will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any infraction of the law. However, if this business proposition offends your moral ethics, do accept my sincere apology.

If on the contrary you wish to achieve this goal with me, kindly get back to me for further details on these private email: ltcoralphharland@aim.com.

    Respectfully,
    Lt. Col. Ralph Harland.

  2. is the 30% share that you get - is that before or after tax and other charges? I've heard of these schemes before - you will lose most of your share in government red tape.

I love this guys email address too - ltco - I'm assuming that is his rank. Like most military people - getting promoted is such a hassle having to change email addresses each time.

And these people who get killed - just how much money did they have on them during the attacks? US $7.5 Million - no wonder they are targets - with all that money in their pockets - I'm amazed they can even move.

"However, if this business proposition offends your moral ethics, do accept my sincere apology." Moral ethics? Clearly you've passed the first stage of their careful selection process FwF.... :P

  3. The nigerians might have just bitten off more tuber than they can chew. You don't futz around with the RIR and get away with it. They'll just as soon drop in under cover of darkness and kick the spammer's butt out past the breakers on the Côte d'Ivoire and into shark infested waters. Not that there's anything wrong with that! :-)

The spam is certainly not unique, although they're already ripping you off, FwF... down from $9.5 million to $7.5 and now "only" 30% vs 40%. If I were you, I'd complain. Demand they raise your cut to match other spams or you won't play!-

For some reason, I get the feeling that none of you believe this to be an honest, viable offer! Well, I'm here to tell you that I for one will not let this opportunity pass me by! I contacted my new friend and best buddy, and it's all a done deal! I'm gonna be rich, I tell you! And all I have to do is to give him the access information to my bank account, my SS number, and my driver's license number - just so he can do a direct wire transfer of all that money, straight into my account. You understand how it is.. Oh, and he did happen to mention that he needs $500 for legal fees and banking fees on his side, and would I please send it to him, and then when the money gets here, I can take that $500 out of his share of the money he sends. You see, he can't directly access all that money he has without raising the suspicion of the local authorities.

Now, what more could you ask for? A mere $500 investment, to make 3.5 million dollars?

Why, it's almost too good to be true..............

    (Nurse........ NURSE!! Where's my meds??)

It's funny you started this thread as we have one going elsewhere... Notice my thread :)

  10. Greed + Stupidity = Con artist's mark

Graylox... your urban slang dictionary should define "mark" as -
Slang. A person who is the intended victim of a swindler; a dupe

    Posted 10 months ago #
  11. They try it even in RL:
Some years ago there was a cleaner from Nigeria in my office.
A very friendly guy, he became more friendly with every day, he told about his family and then a history about a friend in prison and then he became even more friendly saied that I had a nice perfume and if I would help his friend....you know the rest of the story ? I don't remember how many millions - couldn't finish counting yet.

    Posted 10 months ago #
  12. Urban Dic.:

    mark

    1) A wrestling fan who believes that all of the events taking place are 100% real or legit.

    wrestling = forum ?

    Posted 10 months ago #
  13. Here is how the term mark came about. It started in fairs years ago. When a person was con'd playing one of those games you can never win at and lost all your money, the con artist would pat you on the back telling you that you almost won. He would have chalk on his hand and it would leave a "mark" on your back so the other operators would know you had already been suckered so they would waist time trying to get you again.

In the words of Wilhuff Tarkin, they are "far too trusting".

  15. Only people that get shafted by Nigeria419 are the greedy and the stupid.

    I think they go hand-in-hand.

Nah Lockett, you lie, wrestling is for real, the Undertaker and Giant Haystacks told me so. |'

At least you get to be a millionaire. All I seem to get lately are offers to grow my, uh, manhood so I can satisfy my women and stop being embarrassed by my tiny size. I'm not sure why all these spammers seem to think I'm a guy, but daily I get bunches of those emails, and my filter doesn't catch all of them. I'd rather have a chance to get rich!

    UPDATE:

Well, my money finally arrived this morning. After I had sent all my personal information, including bank account numbers and authorization codes, my SS#, and my Drivers' License number, the LT. Col. finally decided that it would be safer, and save me taxes, if he were to just send all that money direct to my house.

Not wanting to pay all those thousand of $$ worth of taxes, I agreed, and the money finally arrived right to my door early this morning!

See, all you nay-sayers. I told you I was going to be rich, and now, my dream has come true!!! 7.5 million dollars, right here.... I can hardly believe my eyes!!

But I do have one problem now.... I can't figure out which one I want to buy first.. Reading Railroad, or Park Place.. ;-)

Another thing these Nigerians do is contact online businesses (this happens to me frequently), asking for a quote for a very large order. At first nothing's mentioned about 'deals' or Nigeria .. but I can usually spot them because of the very poor English! At first I'd given them quotes, and next thing they want to know if I can ship to South Africa, etc. By then I've caught it, and say we do not do business with Nigeria and our merchant account will not accept CC's from there.. they totally disregard my answer and say, instead we can ship to an address in Texas, (or wherever) and they can understand my reluctance, etc., and what they'd like to do is pay me a lot more than my quote so I can pay other businesses for things they've ordered here in the US with the overpayment! Last time I finally just said find yourself another sucker and added them to my spam filter! Initially I lost several days falling for this with back & forth emails. Grrrrrrrrrr

There are some folks who bait scammers into wasting their own time and money. 419 Eater documents scambaiting techniques with actual correspondence, pictures and videos. These guys come up with elaborate schemes to trick scammers into doing things like getting tattoos, carving sculptures, drawing comics, staging Monty Python skits and more. Check them out for a few laughs.

Here's a guy who tricked a scammer(an eBay scammer, but a scammer nonetheless) into buying a three-ring binder for $8000.00(warning: scammer swears profusely):

  28. the letter should be mark as spam by your email provider though...

    Posted 10 months ago #
  29. Lockett, if you have the time to search for it, you might uncover another prank a potential victim pulled ON the nigerian con artist. As I recall, a recipient of one of the scam letters replied to the scammer pretending to be very interested in making lots of money, but only if the nigerian would do some things to prove that HE was legit. Through a series of exchanges, he managed to convince the scammer to jump through a bunch of hoops, including taking pictures of himself with a funny sign hung from his neck. Now, I can't vouch for the veracity of the prank, but it sounded hilarious.

What bothers me is that too many people still open unsolicited email. Big mistake.
