Problem with Image Comparer

I'm new to this site and may possibly be confused. I understood that this was a full, free download of the entire file. I downloaded within the allowed time frame, installed per the instructions given and ran my first comparison. Worked great until I tried to delete, copy or move. Then I got a message that said -- This function is available only in registered version. -- Is there some sort of special key code or whatever that I should have gotten to fully activate the program?

  2. Is there anywhere on the screen where it says how many days of trial are left?

No this one was easy. Just run the setup file. Click on Help (?). Does it say giveawayoftheday? Ignore the register and other button.

Yes, there is a note on the screen that says -- Unregistered trial version. You have 30 day(s) left. -- As for the second question, no where on the Help (?) screen does it say giveawayoftheday.

  5. The setup program itself generated a registry key. Make sure that your windows account has administrative permissions so that the registry can be written to.

OK, now I'm going to really show my ignorance (grin). How do I determine whether my windows account has administrative permissions? I'm reasonable computer literate but this is a new one for me. I've just bought a new computer and it has Windows XP Media Center Edition.

  8. Start Button -> Control Panel. Double click on User Accounts (if in classic view). If in catagory view just click on User Accounts. Where it lists accounts in "or pick an account to change" make sure you have "Computer administrator" listed under your user account.

Your user account if you are not sure what it is, when you hit the start button, it's at the very top of the list with the little icon (not sure which icon you have).

OK I've changed the HP_Administrator to ashpaints. Do I need to delete the trial version that I have installed and re-download?

  11. That would be good. Uninstall it and reinstall. (You may re-download if you wish though this may not be necessary.)

So you have adminstrator permission or did you just rename an account?

This is a brand new computer so the only User Accounts were HP_Administrator and Guest. Since HP_Administrator was listed as the Computer Administrator so I changed that name to my user name. Then I went to Control Panel and uninstalled, rebooted and went to the downloaded list and reinstalled. Now it works like a dream. Thanks for all of your help. I'll mark this one as Resolved now and then go back to cleaning up my graphics files.
