I wasn't sure where this post belonged, so I though software talks was the closest I could get.

I was surfing here and there when I came up to the following page named "Direct Access Giveaway of the day Registration".

There are strange similarities between the GAOTD home page when it was in beta and the Nagarsoft home page. It even has the 'beta 2' on the same spot that GAOTD had when it was in beta. They offer a "GiveAway of the day LICENSE for Direct Access". Direct Access files (.daa) are images that can be burned like the *.iso files. You can get info by goggling it.

The catch is that you need to submit your name a email address before you get the license key that is used to get your "free Giveaway of the Day for DirectAccess".

I don't like it, it seems strange. I never heard of Nagarsoft and I wont give my email to them until I know whether they are legit or not.

    Pace,

    hello, mario...
Direct Access was the giveaway yesterday...
among the posts/comments on the main page was a link the dev put up that went directly to the registration page...
the page did say "beta 2", or something similiar, as i recall...
maybe you found that page while surfing?...
the registration was different yesterday...we had to submit our e-mail addy & have a key/registration file sent to us...
some weren't getting their keys right away, & the dev said to send an e-mail informing them of no key received...if your name was already there, they said they'd send another key after the giveaway time...so, if the software was already installed, it could still be registered...

  3. Mario, if you have any doubts in regard to supplying an email address, you should create a secondary email address on gmail, or even better investigate further using a site such as sneakemail.com which is absolutely ideal for such purposes.

Sneakemail like most other disposable email sites lets you create additional addresses which get routed to your own real email. However, Sneakemail lets you turn on or off (block) individual addresses or delete them entirely when you decide you have finished with them (or you start getting spammed).

I am a registered user of Direct Access having purchased it after the first time it was offered here. I have experienced no unprofessional behavior from nagarsoft to date.

Nagarsoft have given away other software before, and apart from the initial registration I've not had any problems with spam emails from them. The Email that is sent to you is from Andrea, which adds a personal touch to the whole thing. The software house previously gave away Direct Access yesterday (21st Jan 08) and previous to that on May 3rd 2007.

I do hope you don't miss out on something that you could find useful, bu each to their own.

The copy cat aspect is a good point, but it just looks like a template copy to me. Which eer way you decide, if you use programs such as word for window or other document programs and do a lot of writing this could be really useful. I will certainly find it useful for sorting out one of my bigger reviews of a game which amazingly is over 1200 pages in length, but then again that particular game has a hundred plus mods and at least a thousand maps that have been made for the community.

A file extension is only a hint as to what the file might be (eg. .dat .key .nfo .lst .bin) - all of these are used by different programs in different ways - the file format is different for each.

It is always up to the program how the file gets interpreted. Different programs might use "daa" for different purposes - As far as "Direct Access" is concerned, "daa" might be an abbreviation for "Direct Access Activation".

Just by renaming license.daa to license.zip doesn't make it a compressed archive.

    Hi

Sorry for my stupidity. I didn't use the computer yesterday and I wasn't aware of the Direct Access Give Away today. I hope that, because of my post, nobody tries to burn a direct access file :(
I did a check on Google and yesterday's GAOTD didn't show up. I became suspicious, but I didn't mean to imply any wrongdoing, I just wanted more information and I got pie in my face....

thank you for showing me how to get email that won't clutter my Inbox with spam BuBBy and you are right, there were a dozen types of .daa files and I wasn't going to explain all of them in my post. I tried to guess which one it was and as usual I was wrong.

I wish the web page I referred to had more information besides the absolute minimum. A small explanation of what the page was about would have made me ignore it and keep surfing.

At any rate thank you for taking the foot out of my mouth. It was beginning to hurt!
