    "veering off-topic again here...but...
personally, i think the speedy hyper baby is perfect for youtube..."

violet 4714-lol! i was actually watching it and thinking it might be funny to post as is, but i'm sure the grandparents would prefer normal hyper baby. if i ever figure this thing out, i'll probably post both versions.

"and if you want me to break explanations into smaller bites, just ask about the parts you want to know more about."

goodgotd- i'm afraid i mispoke, i don't understand about 99% of anything technical you say.

"not knowing is curable, honest. not wanting to know, that's harder."

i'm a firm believer of not being afraid to ask, it's just that when i have to ask the same thing over and over i start to feel a little (a lot) dense.

i'm going to go mess around with the fps now.

o.k. i now have a new problem. i used the zc converter to try a different fps, i made a new folder with a new name to save the converted video. the converter did it's job and said mission accomplished, but when i went to the new folder it was empty!

    hello, funkymom...
a few people wrote that they couldn't save to anywhere other than the default folder, even when they created a new folder to save to...
did you look for the converted file in the default folder?...
use windows explorer & look in your computer ( usually "C" ) for a file named ZCVideoConverter...maybe it saved to the default...?...

violet (do you mind if i call you violet? i don't want to be overly informal ;) )

thanks for the tip, but the file is not in the default folder.
plus the first time i converted the video (the super-fast one), it did go to the folder i designated.

i'll just have to say it again.......

no problem with the name, but thanks for asking...
trust me...at some point, your name will be shortened, too :)
looking at the posts from yesterday, sometimes the output was saved to the default & sometimes to the newly created folder...even on the same pc!...
and one person said something about making the output folder the same as the folder the video originally came from...and it was all wiped out :(
can you use windows search & look for the video?...did you name it, or leave a looong # for the video?...

    o.k. violet-
i've searched my computer and the only 2 folders are the original and the fast converted one. i did also find (which i completely forgot about)that i put the videos on windows media player (i had originally tried to open the videos with every program i had) and this file is very small and the right speed. is there any way that i can upload or share that file that i'm not seeing?

i'm going to try and work on that before i fall asleep.

    thanks violet!

lol...you are killing me!...i made the mistake of checking here before going to bed!...

ok...you are speaking to someone that doesn't save anything in WMP...but does use it...

my suggestion: open WMP...click on Library...right click on your video...click on Open File Location.........and let's hope a box opens that shows you where the video was saved to...

save it to your documents, or something---wherever you know where you can find it...

    upload!

    Hi, FunkyMom

After sloshing through the technical jargon (and I grew up as a roadie and electronic technician!), I thought I might have an alternative for you.

Video Spin is a free digital video editor you might enjoy; other choices and helpful tips can be found at http://www.desktopvideo.about.com.

About.com also has a great article on free video editing software: http://desktopvideo.about.com/od/editingsoftware/a/freevidedit.htm

As a mother of three and grandmother of six, I understand your desire to capture and save every moment of your daughter's life; when it comes to sharing those moments, however, it might be wise to consider the relatively short attention span of the human race. Granny and Gramps will succumb to that glazed over 'thousand-yard stare' about 10 minutes into a 1G raw video. It might take an injection of liquid Geritol to revive 'em!

Consider a photo montage (slide show). The video editors that I suggested will allow you to choose the best moments of your video, add special effects and text, and then present a beautifully packaged, attention-grabbing video to your family and friends.

Best of all, it's FUN to edit videos!

(Oh...for safety's sake, do not make your video public! Allow access only to family and friends. There are some very creative and resourceful preverts, perverts, proverts and reverts that take unholy interest in videos of kidlets.)

    bobby- thanks for the advice!
i think i didn't make myself clear about one thing tho'- even though the videos over 1 gig each, they are each under a minute long! i don't know why and i will be finding a different way to film in the future, but i hate not being able to figure out how to do something i know must be possible!

and to be honest these videos aren't that great anyway, i'm just stubborn and have to figure this out.

i'm going to check out video spin.

violet- when i opened the file location the video was over a gig again. this is just nuts!

  10. @ funkymom, to decrease the size you must use some kind of compression. Look in the settings and you'll find a whole list to choose from!! LOL

at least now i know someone that can help me with converting, uploading, etc.!...
keep trying...i'll check back & see if there's anything i can help with...
sorry i haven't been much help as of yet :(

    I didn't find Video Spin via about.com, but here's the url: http://www.videospin.com/

thanks for the point-out on the second link though, Wax and the Jahshaka project look like worth giving a workout when I can shift to taking video with a camera.

Avid Free DV 's been discontinued, though. bummer.

The reason I concentrate on dub (copy) editing is I got a hardware mpeg-4/divx capture box for speed-of-capture- 500 vhs tapes to transfer- and re-encoding just takes too long and ties up my computer for as long as it took to record.

    you're welcome, funkymom...
i fired up the ZC Converter...
for Output Format i chose Youtube Video (*.flv)...
the program auto-set the Video Quality to 768 KBPS...
according to the website, adjusting the Video Quality is the setting that changes the video output file size...
time to try the default settings, & if that doesn't work change the Video Quality KBPS setting?...
    my latest suggestion...lol...

  15. I usually select XviD but I don't know what youtube (probaby something like mp2 or 3) wants or needs. I'll do some research on the format and what software are you usinng to do it with???????? I've got lost LOL!

archangel- you're lost!?! i feel like i've been running in circles for days............oh yeah, i pretty much have been. ;)
-a big part of my problem is that i'm not sure of which software will do the job. i've tried several, zc converter, divx and lots of others which apparently are not for video files. i really know next to nothing about video, i've just barely learned how to shrink a photo to a size that i can use to send in an e-mail.

bobby- thanks to you i went to about.com (i don't know why i didn't think of it myself?) and discovered that i have windows movie maker on my computer ( my 10,000th duh? moment of the last few days). i'm in the process of checking it out.

  17. Hey there funkymom. What are you wanting to do? I think I know some but lets cover most of them and see if we can get off in the right direction.

    Are you wanting to,,,,,,,,

    1. Take video from your camera and change it into another type of format (convert)?

    2. Download movies in whatever type format and convert them so they can play on a dvd player?

    3. Rip/copy a dvd and convert it to some other type of format and make it smaller in size so you can upload and share?

    4. All the above?

    5. None of the above?

    6. Go on an all expense paid vacation (at BuBBy's expense) ROTFLMAO

Let me know and we'll start from scratch. I've been there and with no one to help but believe me its not hard once you get started in the right direction. The main thing is having the right software and selecting your settings. (I had a big grin on my face when I read that you had used over a gig on the short video,,LOL been there, done that).

Helllloooo Funkymom, how are u feeling? Not discouraged, I hope!?
Been coming back often to check on your journey. Didn't interact, since I don't have much to contribute on this topic, and didn't want to interrupt the great flow of ideas w more silliness, for which I'm well known 'round these parts... LOL
But we are all pulling for you!! :-) Don't give up!!
Your perseverance is to be commended! :-)

I'm adding these links and tips to my BM, they do come handy (thanks everybody!)
Pliizz do let us know when u finally succeed the upload, so we can watch the fruit of so much effort.
Would like to see if u went w either the normal or hyper baby version ;-)

I had a thought: Do you know about GSpace? There's even an add-on for Firefox(what browser do u use?).
If u and ur family have GMail accts, this could be a way to send stuff over to them, in a private way. As Bobby said, there are a lot of crazies out there...
I've only used it for files and music, so don't know if it does video/photos. The neat thing is that the only limit is the amount of Gigs ur GMail acct has.
Have to go now, but if u are at all interested I'll find the right links & investigate if it does vids/photos and post them later.

    Peace, Manu

    Hi Bobby:
Don't know what's wrong w my laptop, or if it happened to anyone else, but when I click on your first link: http://www.desktopvideo.about.com,
it always goes here instead: http://www.about.akadns.net/

When I enter the address manually from a blank page, I land here:
    http://desktopvideo.about.com/

Strangely, I have no trouble w the second link.
Not tech savvy enough to understand why this happens, but it's not the 1st time I have this kind of trouble...
Which one of these is the right one? Thank you.
    Peace, Manu

  20. LeKanaw, this may help explain why you were redirected.
    http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question180.htm

If the target has a direct assignment block of IP addresses, and depending on how the host maps its sites, if a URL is incorrect or contains an unnecessary www., you may be routed to the correct address anyway. Or, you may be redirected to the primary home page, or you may get one of the infernal "cannot display page"/"cannot find page" pages.

Using WHOIS, you can determine that About.com's net range is directly assigned and it's a large block - 207.241.144.0-207.241.159.255
207.241.144.80 is at least one IP for their default homepage.

Hence, with the www, it sent you to About.com's homepage. Without, you go to the intended video info page.

Now you probably know more than you really wanted to. :-)

    archangel- here is the deal.
-i walk into my daughter's room and find her dancing away (something she loves to do). i wanted to capture this on video. i have a camcorder, but the battery is dead and i've temporarily misplaced the charger and the spare.
-so, i think to myself, "hey! funkymom" (because, of course, this is how i refer to myself when i'm all on my lonesome), "why don't you use the built-in camcorder on your new laptop?" (i'm recently separated and my daughter has been communicating with her dad through the webcam, so i thought it would be a good medium to use, although my only experience with it has been using skype.)"great idea, funkymom! you are brilliant." (in my recent state i need all the ego boosts i can get)
-i turn it on and within minutes i'm recording my daughter and her wonderful creativity. "wow!", i think to myself, "that was so easy, this is gonna' be great! i'm going to send this to her dad, grandparents and all her aunts and uncles."
-i then go to my handy toolbar and see an option to e-mail the file. i start the process, but i don't use outlook and couldn't figure out how to get the thing set up to either of my e-mail accounts. **strike one.**
-"o.k.", i think, "no problem. i'm sure i have plenty of options." i then go back to my handy toolbar and see an option to send to skype. at least some of the family use skype, so it's a place to start. but, in order to do this someone on my contact list must be online.....and, of course, nobody is. **strike two**
-..sigh..."o.k., i'm creative and determined (and, if i do say so myself, i'm doing alright in the smarts department). i know this can be done.
-so i start checking every media player and photo/video converter i can find on my computer. i mean, shoot, i'm a freeware junkie- i've been collecting software i know nothing about, just for a moment like this...... guess what? **strike three**
-"hey, wait a second funkymom, what about all those brilliant, tech-savvy and extremely humorous folks over at the giveaway of the day forum?"
-and so- here i came. and wouldn't you know, the next morning the giveaway was a video converter. score!
-at this point i had decided to upload the video to youtube. i downloaded zc converter and converted the file for something compatible. within minutes the file was converted and small...........................just to backtrack a little, sometime before this, i told my brother to get online so i could send the vids to him via skype. that's when i discovered that the file was over a gig!!...............
-i go to youtube and upload the new file and discover 'hyper dancing baby'.

i think you can pick up the story from there. all i want to do is share this giant file at normal speed. when i do figure this out, and i will, i will be pestering everyone for a better way to film and share.

so, archangel does that answer your questions?
oh- i am really interested in the all expense paid vacation. when i finally share this video, i am going to need one!

lekenaw- thanks for finally stopping by! i was wondering where the heck you were. i thought i made it very clear in these posts that humor was welcome and desired!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
to my forum family- i want to thank you for participating in my little soap opera. whether you've offered advice or sympathy, or even if you've just been silently watching to see how long this crazy lady can keep this up, thanks for being there.
    :)

and now you all know a little more about me. i've been restraining myself since i started posting here, but now you all know the truth......i am a serious rambler. once i get started i'm like that infamous bunny (no- not whiterabbit, the pink one) that keeps going and going......

    peace out!

    Posted 10 months ago #
  22. Do you mean it hasn't finished yet? I read your story, and I was really getting into it.

All I wanted to know was how did it end - did you get the video emailed out, and now I have to wait for the next episode?

funkymom, ya killing me. I could probably give you some advice, but only after talking to my 13 year old daughter who is a whiz on youtube - and has her own subscriber base etc. I'm a pro at watching the videos - but to be honest, I've never got around to actually uploading any content (too busy downloading).

so c'mon people - can't we remove this little 1 Gig obstacle for funkymom?

    Hello FkM:
Well, I do drop by constantly to see where we are at in the "hyper dancing baby" saga! This has high entertainment value!! LOL

I'm very glad u came out of the closet, and showed ur true nature! ;-)
But please, don't try to steal my title, 'cause I'm "the Rambler" 'round here :-)
You have to do more than that to get to wear the title!! I'm already in line to get into "the Master Rambler" contest, bc it's an Art don't u know, to post so much stuff and say so very little, and 96.53% of it it's pure silliness! ;=D Yeahhhh
You see right there u lose, bc what u post actually makes sense!! Me, I'm just trying to be the Forum Clown(hummm... "Clowness" does sound better dontchuthink?)... <:*D
No matter what some say, Geekiness & Comedy do go hand-in-hand!

Anyway, I'm so glad the forum has gained a few funny women, I was feeling darn lonely there for a while!! ;-))) Lets keep it up!
Now, where is my Mango Juice, Nigerian lottery & Chocolate cake? Bwahawahawah
    Oooops, wrong thread...
    Ciao bella, Manu

PS: Ur profile doesn't say where u are from. It helps to figure out the Time Zones, since we are all scattered 'round the world.

  24. Oh puleeze, Lekanaw, I can outwrite you with my Dragon software tied behind my back. In fact, there's another email growing in the hydroponics chamber right now, and it's mutating into a full blown novel guaranteed to short out your translation software. You have created a monster, you funny clownNESS you.

BTW- yes, I did see your reply on the hijacked cake file thread, but then lost track of it before I could come up with a snappy rejoinder. It's become increasingly difficult to follow these threads, and it is impossible to find one using GAOTD's primitive search function.

@RM: Hey u, darn, u posted whilst me writing... No fair!
Didn't know we were playing Forum-Tag again!!

Typically male, you have to win! Buhumbug...
I still think I'm most qualified for the title, the key being, to write w the primary intent of making others laugh, while saying mostly sillinesses! (Is this a word?)
    That is the difficult part!
I do concede that u write very very well, heck I DO envy the way u master it.
I wish it was that easy for me! But of course, by using Dragon u cheat. Me, only using good old grey cells. HaHa!!
    Peace, Manu

  27. Lekanaw, don't you know that's why it's called oneupMANship? :-)

No cheating, here... same grey cells churn out text and context; Dragon merely helps with speed. I apologize, though, for had I known the narrow scope of the title in play, I'd have been happy to concede it to her royal clownNess. Me, I was shooting for the broader and certainly more ignoble title of Grand Poohbah of Verbosity.

  28. Hey there funkymom and thanks for the story. (your a very good storyteller). Now we can get started and it shouldn't take long but first,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The main program I use for ripping and converting is not a freebie so,,,,,,,,does anyone else out there know of a good free converter that will allow you to source either from disk or a file? Please post a link.

funkymom, once we get some links, I'll download and install the software and check out the settings then well have the same software and I'll be able to walk you through it step by step.... There are alot of settings but once you do it once (and understand the process and which settings are for which lol) you'll be converting everything to make it smaller but keep excellent quality.

rm- how does this dragon work? how can it speed up your typing? is it like the evelyn wood speed reading?

  30. Funky, I type approx 80wpm, but between laziness and deteriorating eyesight, it's often preferable to just lean back in the comfy hi-back office chair, stare at the ceiling and free associate/expository dictate direct to the input field. Then I just have to make minor corrections.
