  1. Computeractive are giving away the commercial version of Serif Drawplus 6, a full drawing program worth £59, (mind you, you can get it for £9.99 at http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/DrawPlus/default.asp).

Download the free version 6 from this page:
    http://www.computeractive.co.uk/drawplus/index

    *Warning* 127Mb download

When installed, go to Help -> Registration Wizard and take a note of the Installation number and Code, (you'll need to give this information to the operator). You then have to telephone:

    UK (freephone) 0800 376 5467
    US (Toll free) 1-888-644-2766
    Rest of the World (International) +44 155 914 5479

You may be offered a discounted upgrade for this or other products but you are entitled to request only the free code for Drawplus 6 if you wish. Enter the Registration number they give you into the Registration Wizard.

  3. Wow, I haven't even navigated through their free version 4 and now I have version 6 to explore. This version looks like it's a much more advanced product, so thankew K8!

They caution of potential download delays during the busy evening period, but forgot to mention that their registration unit is only open between 8AM and 4PM Eastern Time. Somebody wake me in the morning!

Is there anyway to get it without calling?

  5. xboxgamer - apparently not... as K8 detailed, the developer's created a process that includes:
    a) downloading/installing
    b) registering by phone (toll free from the US or UK, I'm not sure if that 3rd number costs $$)

Considering that this software appears to be a near-clone to my much beloved and now nearly obsolete/extinct Micrografx Draw, only more polished, even a short toll phone call might be well worth the investment.

  6. If you're looking for a *truly* free SVG program that doesn't require phone registration, I'd suggest inkscape. http://www.inkscape.org/

  9. For me, the Serif freeware version 6 is suitable for now, but note that v6 is a decade old product (according to the company sales rep)
I got a link to their latest full version - http://www.serif.com/drawplus/drawplusx2/
and their products store - http://www.serif.com/store/index.asp

FWIW - Anyone considering a commitment to a suite of DTP tools ought to compare it to others. If you follow K8's steps, d/l the free trial and register, they'll dangle an attractive 60-day free trial offer - mailed bundled boxed set of all 3 of the integrated v12 versions (the X series) - draw+, page+ and photo+
The sales rep claims compatibility with all big name file extensions, even claimed it can mainupulate PDF files.
If you decide to keep the bundle, the cost is $129, less than 50% of the full price for the three. That's pretty amazing considering I recall paying $70 some 15 years ago (when a dollar was worth a lot more) just for my draw package.

Serif might very well be a candidate for GAOTD. They seem happy to give away obsolete but fully functional versions for the chance to give a one-on-one sales spiel to upgrade.

  10. Does it need to be installed right away or can I wait untill after the offer expires to install it?

Sorry, my post might have sounded like a sales pitch, but I'm not a salesman. Suggest you call the # and ask them to clarify. I doubt they'd have a problem with you paying for something without trying it first. :-)

Actually, it IS possible to register Serif products online:

    http://www.serif.com/support/registration.asp

They'd prefer you to call so they can try to upsell you on the latest version or sell you other products, but you can register any of the magazine giveaways or the products at freeserifsoftware.com online at this address.

Also, regarding the expiration dates, it's been my experience that they don't seem to mean too much with Serif's software. I've registered programs over a year old at this site.
