I have repeatedly tried to install Starburn 9.5. Each installation attempt fails. I get the error message: "The installation of the StarPort Lite driver failed - try un-installing previous version and running setup again".

I installed "Starburn" from a previous GOTD offer. The program worked well but I thought that "Starburn 9.5" might be better since it is a later version. I un-installed my working Starburn program to remove its driver and tried installing Starburn 9.5 again and again. I keep getting the same error message. Now I have a copy of Starburn that does not work. It will not even allow me to add directories and files to the burn queue.

    .

I have been using Starburn rather than Nero 7 Deluxe for several weeks. Starburn is easier to use and it works as well as Nero for my simple uses. Plus I have not been able to get Nero's technical support to respond to the repeated emails that I sent them.

Installation time for STARBURN 9.5 is running out, Is there a solution?

Go to your machine setup and check for a SCSI device installed with name "Starport" Uninstall it. Then try setup again. I've noticed during my efforts to install this prog that it doesn't uninstall properly. I found severall reg entries + the install directory + that stupid starport driver after uninstall. btw it installs this starport driver even if you uncheck the install box :-(

I have looked for the "Starport" driver in "Device Manager" and do not find it.

Is this any help? Or can
you be more specific in how to locate the driver? Thanks.

    hello, bigun...
    i'm running media center xpsp2, fully up-to-date...
when i go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer>My Computer ( in my case, the "C" drive )>Program Files>Give Away Of The Day>Star Burn, there are several files inside---including a StarPort Driver file, which contains both a "DrvInst.exe" file, & a text file showing that the driver was successfully installed in my PC.
i am leery of clicking on .exe files to see if they help. example: would it install the driver you need, or cause a problem for your PC?...
however, maybe the text file can show you what went wrong, or where?...
hope that helps find your solution...

I don't know if your information helped or not. This is some of what I found when I followed the path you posted:

In the Starburn\Starport directory there are two entries.
    "DrvInst.exe"
    "DrvInst.log"

I double clicked on "DrvInst.exe" and then I opened the "DrvInst.log" file. The result of running "DrvInst.exe" was a quick flash showing a switch into the "command prompt" mode and back again to Windows XP Pro's graphic interface in the same "Starport" directory containing "DrvInst.exe".

Here is the contents of the "DrvInst.log" after two tries of running "DrvInst.exe".

    "DrvInst.log"

<GetClassDevs (All Present Devices) FAILURE: The data is invalid.
    (13 / 0xD)>

    DrvInstDriverUpdate(): UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices() failed. Status=(13)
<DrvInstDriverUpdate FAILURE: The data is invalid.

    2 - Operation not completed.

    DrvInst.exe usage:

The last several lines seem to indicate (to me) that if the DRIVER was installed - a reboot would be necessary and if the DRIVER was not installed a reboot will not be necessary.

I did not get a message that said to reboot my computer. From this I assume that the driver was not installed.

In the \Program Files\StarBurn\Wizards\Logs directory there is a file called "Starburn.log". It is rather large (51 KB), 29-pages in Microsoft Word 2000, so I will not post it at this time. I searched the log, in Notepad" and "Word" for "driver", "*.drv", "starport.drv", "starportLite" - None of these were found. Of course I don't know the name of the driver yet so I just guessed at its name. It is going to take a while for me to find out the name of the driver and I will only be able to find out its name if it is installed on my computer.

Interestingly I found this entry in the "Starburn.log".

CStarBurn_ScsiDeviceCdvdRomWriter::CStarBurn_ScsiDeviceCdvdRomWriter_SharedConstructor(): WARNING! Device does not support recording

I guess the offer will be gone fron GOTD before I can get much further.

Please give me the specific names that you found - such as the name of the driver and the name of the text file that says that the driver has been installed. Thanks

I have this EXACT same issue and have been following this thread since last night trying to resolve it.

On one computer, it installed perfectly. That computer is running Windows XP Home Edition. The other computer I have this same issue with the driver. That computer is running Windows XP Media Edition.

On the install that worked, the text file clearly says it is all installed properly. I have the exact same error message that was posted above, in the text file on the computer where the install did not work.

The message in the text file that DID work reads as follows.... it clearly states at the end that the driver is installed.

    Search for Device ID: [ROOT\StarPortLite]
<EnumDeviceInfo FAILURE: No more data is available.
    (259 / 0x103)>
    Check: Driver is NOT installed
    DrvInstDriverInstall(): ID: [ROOT\StarPortLite], Inf: 'C:\Program Files\StarBurn\StarPort\StarPortLite.inf'
    ClassName: 'SCSIAdapter'
    DrvInstDriverUpdate(): ID: [ROOT\StarPortLite], Inf: 'C:\Program Files\StarBurn\StarPort\StarPortLite.inf'
    Driver Installed successfully.

  7. Have you all tried using your "Starport Wizard"?

I find only 5 drivers that were installed and are listed as follows:

    nlame.dll
    ogg.dll
    starburn.dll
    vorbis.dll
    vorbisfile.dll

When I try the Starport Wizard on the computer that I am having issues on, it tells me that the Starport Driver is not installed.

    Posted 6 months ago #
  9. Did you check to see if you have the 5 drivers?

I have the same 5 .dll files that you listed above.

I still get the message that the Starport Driver is not installed. The log file in the Starport Folder (which is within the Starburn Folder), tells me that the driver is not installed. I have tried taking the Starport Driver (DrvInst.exe from the good install and putting it in the other program, but it still doesn't work on the machine running Windows Media Edition.

**Can you have this program on more than one computer in the same house??

  11. I'd say yes. Even if they were networked shouldn't make a difference. I'm stumped, Media Edition shouldn't make a difference either.

Here is a link to a link to Star's forum. Maybe they can help.

BuBBy has posted a link on a new thread, "Rerun For StarBurn Shark 9.5", for a fixed version of the program ( due to the homepage issue )...the link leads to the Rocket Division forums...
i do not know if that is free for everyone, or if it is a free download for those who paid for the program...

@Bigun---the text file i referred to was the "DrvInst.log" that you found...mine showed the same info as ddckp2's good installation file, as shown above...

i searched for the driver name for you...all i could find was the following:

after starting the program, i ran "Spybot", looked at the running processes, & it showed these .DRV loaded modules for StarBurn: WINSPOOL.DRV, wdmaud.drv, msacm32.drv ---all in the WINDOWS\system32 file...

additionally, in the hidden Windows driver files, there was "StarPortLite.sys"...

    running Windows "Services" showed nothing...

i don't know where else to look...i've also tried "FileAlyzer" & "FolderAlyzer", two free tools from the "Spybot" maker...they showed streams, hex, all sorts of things that didn't show any other drivers.........or it could have been me not understanding :/

my question here is: since you two have the same problem, & have already activated, i wonder if you could install with the fresh download from the Rocket Division forum link & still have the freebie?...i don't know, & i'd like to help, but i'm out of suggestions...

Slava from GAOTD wrote in the comments that he had contacted Rocket Division about the homepage issue...they reran & corrected the problems last giveaway...let's see what they do this time...

don't think i've helped much here...sorry...but if you think of any searches for me to try, let's go for it!...

Thanks all. I just typed a long reply to your posts > clicked on another page > and when I got back here it was all gone. Its too late to type it all again now - I only have the use of one hand so it takes a long time for even a short message.

I think that I have found the solution. If so, I will post it later. Too late to install the program - but it will be a challenge bested.

I am not able to find the "Rerun For StarBurn Shark 9.5" thread mentioned above. Search engine laughed, coughed, and sputtered - then displayed a dozen un-related entries.

    I could use a guide-dog here.

@Bigun---i didn't turn the PC on yesterday; sorry i couldn't be your substitute guide-dog! you'd have only been guided to Starbucks for some coffee! i do hope you were able to find a fix for the program.

also---my searches definitely cough & sputter; where can i find the much-needed laughter button??? other then my mirror, of course...

@ddckp2---my help didn't seem to help much, but you are very welcome. thank you for the kind words.

@graylox---thank you for posting the links. i haven't figured out how to post a link yet; this is the first forum i have joined. i'm much better at hiding than participating...
