  2. I've been using WOT (Web Of Trust) for quite a while and although it isn't perfect (what is?) I prefer it over Site Advisor. In one of my mail lists I am subscribed to (Cliff Notes) I read an article about Cliffs own testing of WOT and Site Advisor.

  3. I use Site Advisor also. But I use it as an "Advisor" only. I have found sites that they consider "unsafe" that I use. I think it is in the method they decide what is safe or not. I recall at one time they even had GOTD in their "Grey Mode" some time last year.

I also use LinkScanner Lite http://www.explabs.com/products/lslite.asp "Automatically inspect search results for exploits, hacked sites, fraud/crimeware, and other online threats. Includes right-click, on-demand scanning of any url you choose." Since I get a lot of email from people with links, I use the "on-demand scanning of any url you choose" a lot. It has saved my butt a few times. FYI, also the company, Exploit Prevention Labs, has been acquired by AVG(Grisoft) recently.

I find using both programs at the same time does slow the PC down just a tad when I am searching since I have my Google search engine set to show 100 sites. But I think the trade off is worth it.

  4. I would like to point out some differences between WOT (Web of Trust) and SiteAdvisor. WOT gets it site reputation data from two sources: users of WOT community and trusted sources such as listings of phishing sites. Reputation data is recalculated every 30 minutes, so it is fresh. Many Internet users who have used WOT and SiteAdvisor have noticed that user driven approach gives often more accurate ratings that automated ones employed by SiteAdvisor. Furthermore, WOT provides also reputation regarding "vendor reliability" and "child safety", where human input is crucial. For more detailed description, see www.mywot.com.
