Will software developers really get paid for the giveaway?

    Hi all,

I wonder whether or not software developers will really get paid for the giveaway (as stated by GAOTD).

GAOTD published my program quite a few days ago. But no one contact me for payment details ever since. I sent a few emails, without any reply up to now.

My question is: when does GAOTD pay developers for the giveaway? Is my case unusual? Thanks.

They paid me in the day when my software was published.

That's a bad news for me.

But they do say that "First and foremost, you have an absolute guarantee that you will be paid for your software..."

Out of curiosity, which programs did you two offer?

  5. AnVir Task Manager and SunlitGreen Photo Editor (according to my detective work). Not that it is important or relevant to the topic.

If it's any consolation - I'm not getting responses to my emails either, but when this happens I just assume they will get to them when they come up for air.

I've sent an email to the PTB - just to "point" to this topic (so they are aware of it).

  7. I have phoned Slava (he is out of office till January 3), he brings his apologies and assures that all the payments will be done right upon his return.
    Sorry for inconvenience.

  9. now this has got me thinking....
why does GAOTD have to pay to feature these programs??
    it's free promotion/advertising as I see it

when in turn-if I like the program/game I have purchased it
from the developer-I would have never tried it without GAOTD
    offering it first

    just a thought
thanks GAOTD for all you do

They're giving away the software to hundreds of people, ensuring that they will never buy it. I wouldn't do that without payment.

  11. Speaking only for yourself, of course. I know of several users (including myself) who have gone and registered giveaways after trying them on the site (even if months later). Often it might be the need to install on new computers, or to obtain updates with new features, improved performance, or squished bugs.

For many of the users "that will never buy it" - I'm guessing they have so many giveaways installed that for 90% of them "they will never use it" (long term)

For many people who download giveaways - most had probably never heard of the software before, would never have downloaded or used it, and would never have become a customer. Through participating with this site - even picking up 10 new customers, is probably 9 customers you would never have had.

Then there is the residual visibility of having a listing on this site - I've read more than once of somebody who finds this site for the first time (I don't know where they are all hiding, but there are more each day). They say, "I wish I found the site a week earlier - I really could've used XXXXXX". This shows the "giveaway" works for more than just 24 hours.

  12. Friends and family have tried the games on my computer, liked them and then went home and bought them. That can't hurt; new customers for the producers.

To vave, thanks for the extended trial. I think your software is quite good (so far)and am considering buying it together with several others such as Prev X, Folder Marker Pro, Buffer Zone and Evernote. I've bought quite a few programs featured on the giveaway site, (eg WireChanger, Blind Write and Wire Keys) but not any of the games yet as most of the decent ones I already own, lol.

I love the projects concept and find it has been a brilliant introduction to software I would never have been aware of previously. I think if I'm going to use the software a lot then it should be payed for.

I used to download everything that was given away up until arounf March last year, then realised what a stupit thing I was doing. Now I carefully assess whether I'll use it then either pass or download.

I do hope the project goes from strength to strength, introducing the general community to all the wonderful software out there.
