  1. Okay, I'll go first...

If GAOTD will just temporarily suspend the membership of all those posters (you know who you are) who keep providing us with links to cool freeware, I resolve to catch up with the chore of downloading, installing and LEARNING HOW TO USE the 83 (EIGHTY THREE... I COUNTED 'EM!!) freaking programs now in my queue after just a month as a member.

If GAOTD can't do that one simple thing for me, well, then, I am gonna keep falling behinder in 2008!

Hope all of ya have a safe & happy New Year.

    ~ Rune

PS - Fellow writers & poets, despite the domain name, this site has nothing to do with illegal drug manufacturing techniques. It's just a useful little applet can be run online, or you can download a free trial of the full software package. -

Now, just whom might you be referring to, Mr. Illustrious Mr. Magi ? Hummmm? Me thinks ye cast dispersions towards the general direction of my vicinity. Just for that, I believe you'll find in your Inbox a rar file containing 326 freeware programs, guaranteed to keep you occupied for the next 4 months. Take that!!! :-)

And to answer your last inquiry, the correct answer would be that he only slides UP chimneys in Australia, and feet first at that. The swirling vortex of logic is opposite there, don't cha know?

I forgot to voice my resolution.. Let's see, yes, I've got it! I resolve to be more kind to aging, fading, magi-types to whom the facilities of wisdom seem to be ever fading.... Oh, wait, I cannot say that, I have resolved to not say things of that nature. Well, lets see... OK, I resolve to not laugh uncontrollable when he gets his hair frosted! LOL

Have a good one, my friend! :-)

Hello you two... I see you still at it. Hummm In.te.res.ting!!!
J'aime bien vos juttes verbales!! :-)

So, I'm voting "for" RM camp!!! Toooootally agree w you!!!
Geeeee Luise, I'm drowning, Au Secours!!
My "To Download" folder is just Bursting at the Seams. How does one cope?
And as you rightly said, it's not just a question of downloading a bunch of s/w...
One HAS to LEARN h2 use all these pesky apps, otherwise, what's the point?

Now, it's to the point I try not to look at your posts FF, I'm just afraid of what interesting/fabulous/musthave/fantastikkkk new apps you just added. I want so many, don't know where to put them all, my HDs can't keep up, but worst of all, my poor brain doesn't want to collaborate either! I've heard the neurons are organizing for a strike...
I propose we sign a petition for a moratorium or a stoppage for both FF AND GOTD. Cause really, I can't keep up!!!!
We could call it "Free January", oui? Common ppl, who's w me?? :-)

On a side note, I positively can not understand how so many can complain about the s/w or games this site gives us. Even if I don't dwld often, already it's too much for me. Me, I'm glad when the Giveaway or the GGiveaway is NOT interesting! One less thing to add/learn/apply/absorb!!

Want to thank you both (and Bubby too!) for your help and advice.
It was nice to have met you!
Good health, lots of laughs, good food in this festive season!
    See u later, Manu :-)
Ok, you can resume the jousting now ;-)

Yes.. Thx Bubby. It's good to see a moderator at work.

On topic... New year's resolutions... Hmmm.. I vow not to download the giveaway just because it's free. HA! I have so much garbage on my machine. Most of the time I don't have time to try out the program, so I'll download just to get it. Then I'll try it a few days later and realize it's garbage.

So my New Year's resolution would be to actually make a concerted thoughtful judgement as to whether I want the program given away here at GOTD.

oh yea.. and I'll lose 25 lbs.

Hellloooo Bubby, sooo glad you are back!
Whatever I said that was wrong (still can't figure out what it was, though), I'm sorry. There was NO intention on making a fuss, you know that, right?
The other thread disappeared, I didn't read the 3 last messages, so don't know the ending... where did u put it? I get access denied/404/... Where are dead posts buried? Neverland??
Also wanted to thank you for your PM. You are my very first one... Nice!
    Gracias, muchacho :-)

@RM: You know... you *ARE* supposed to put the warning at the beginning!!!
You did it on purpose!!! Bad Sage :-) Thanks much for the giggles!!

-On a sad note, Oscar Peterson died earlier today. Such a huge loss!!
    Merry Xmas, Manu

OK, here is my real New Year's resolution: To do my very best to not let a week go by without helping someone in whatever way I can. When I help others, I help myself, and that makes the journey as enjoyable as it gets!! :-)

That's ok, you really didn't miss much. I said some things I shouldn't have said, and BuBBy saved me the embarrassment of having the rest of the forum members reading them. I was out of line with my last comments, not to mention not being considerate of Lees' feelings. I mean, maybe he had a bad day or something, I don't know. But what I said was wrong, and I'm man enough to admit it.

Thanks Mr. B for pulling my hide outta the fire!

I read them.. I didn't think the comments were out of line. I do hope the thread was moved.. and not deleted. Tough call on that one, it could go either way. It's been my experience here at GOTD that subtleties are lost in misunderstanding. So you better get used to it.

Another new years resolution... I'm going stop settling for the cheapest computer hardware I can find. I'm always making the choice of price over quality when it comes to my computer. My thoughts are that computer technology increases so much over a year.... why pay more for something you can get for less. But inevitably.. the other saying of "getting what you pay for" sometimes hits too close to home.

  12. Ummm, did someone run amok on this New Years Resolutions thread whilst I wuz dipping into the eggnog, or are you guys talking about a thread by Kate of the UnDead announcing a free xmas DvD program posted earlier today that disappeared a few minutes later?

On being over the legal limit: FreewareFan, I recall you mentioning breathalyzers in a post the other day. Coincidentally, I just came across this and wondered if the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) will object to people sucking or blowing into something they could accidentally swallow if they hiccup! :-)

LeKanaw: (climb down out of the mango tree this instant, young lady) Remember how we spoofed 'thread hijacking' the other day? Well, here's a forum thread that's a hilarious example of hijacking, one that puts your innocent posts in perspective. Note: You might not care to read the thing unless you're interested in graphics & programming, but the subject bounces from GIFs & Unisys Patents, to PNGs, to Python vs PERL, to IE7, to Gamma, back to GIF (& Compuserve), to BMPs and finally revisits Patents! Call the Message Board Police cause THAT thar's a hijacking.

FreewareFan, might you find the above free software magazine of interest?

Hello, RM. Hope the eggnog was good, and that you enjoyed yourself!

Yes, you missed a bit of an issue. Lee made his post that you can see above, and then closed this thread. I started another thread questioning his motive for doing so, and that thread spiraled downward from there. After quite a few posts within that thread, Mr. B stepped in, and re-opened this thread, with the admonition that you can see above, and removed the other thread that I started. I applaud his decisions in both instances.

And many, many thanks for the link to the freeware magazine you just posted! EXCELLENT, and I intend to spend a lot of time catching up on the past issues. I hope I can return the favor at some point in the near future!

Enjoy your day, my friend! :-)

UPDATE: I just went back through this entire thread, and the comment that Lee made last night just before he closed this thread, has gone missing. Poof! Vaporized....... Anyways, over and done with, never to recur, is my wish!

@FF: You are wrong my friend, Lee's comments were deleted yesterday!
I came by at ~23hr yesterday, his comments were already deleted and the other thread had already been vaporized.
I suspect Mr.B must have deleted everything at the same time he reopened the thread, in order to stop the escalation.
Poor Bubby, when he leaves everything is nice, smooth & everybody is happy. He returns to find his flock in an upheaval.

    About your resolution FF:
Well now, that's just NOT fair!!
You already help ppl out everyday here and probably in other forums too, so it doesn't count!!
You have to pick another one. That would be like cheating... ;-)
=>You can not resolve to do something that u are already doing.
It's against the rules, I know cause I read the book, remember?

    Manu.
PS-1: Yes yes, I'm still thinking about the new year's resolution... But it's coming, don't worry.
PS-2: Hey FF, I'm going to send you a message later today, hope it's ok

@RM: Well, you did miss quite a big show 'round here: fireworks & high flying craziness galore... Didn't u see the smoke?
Apparently I was involved, even though I still have NO idea How/Why or what set it off. It was very confusing. Hell, I'm still confused.
Thank goodness that FF came by and took care of things, I didn't know what to do!

    About your thread:
Hahhhahhh, so you finally caught on to my strategy...
Well, you'll know sir, that if I have the smallest opportunity, I will hijack, trample, deface and make silly faces on your threads, preferably behind your back. It is my purpose!
This is the price you pay for your monkey business, huhh..., mango juice business I mean.
    See u later, Manu
PS: Wassup w the translation? You didn't send it...

@ LeKanaw You said PS-2: Hey FF, I'm going to send you a message later today, hope it's ok

Sure, it's OK with me, but I don't know how you intend to send me a message. I don't think that members can PM (Private Message) one another, unless I've missed something?? I think we can only PM the mods....

If you mean that you are going to just make a regular post here on the forum, well of course, that's just fine!!

    Send anytime you'd like! :-)

Hello, Archangel! How have you been?

Yes, I think I know the 'ways' you are talking about, but that only works if there is a certain requirement fulfilled.

For example, if it's the way I think you're talking about, I could probably get a message to you, but you could not get a message to me....

Am I right in my thinking? :-)

Anyways, good to hear from you, and hope that you and yours are in good spirit and health!!!

  19. Thanks for the reply and I'm doing great but been really busy for the last couple of months (Local elections brought in new officals that need help).

LOL probably but there are no "One way Streets"!

  22. Glad I was passed out with a smile on my face. I don't like discord. As a wise old sage, here's some profound wisdumb -
Anyone can suffer from a bad day, bad news or a paper cut. Even the most amiable may inadvertently allow minor hassles to color otherwise peaceful communication. Black & white email and message board posts always invite misunderstandings since they lack body language cues that help decipher intent. The result can be unintentionally bruised feelings. Relationships between posters or emailers can quickly deteriorate. The solution - develop a thick skin, avoid jumping to conclusions and always ask for clarification before shooting... unless they're armed and hostile, then it's 2 to the chest, 1 to the head, and leave the questions to the coroner.

BTW- I really don't have anything that needs translating right now, but will keep you in mind. I do intend to send ya a "howdy" using the link you posted (cause eagle-eyed BubbyCo didn't delete it in time) but as this is a short work week, it could take a while.

@RM: Can't get one past you!! My silliness & general buffoonery is inspired by their zany antics.
Ohhh man, we are HUGE Monty Python fans. They really are great!!! Underrated in the US, me thinks.
To keep within the thread: Here are the New Year's tauntings, that me and my Dead Parrot will be using profusely, while seeking to induce Arguments everywhere:

You don't frighten us, you English Pig-Dogs / I blow my nose at you / I'll taunt you a second time / I unplug my nose in your general direction /

    mwahahahahahahaahaha :-)
So glad to know u'r a fan too. Thank you for the YT link, hadn't seen it for a while.
Brilliant, I tell you, just brilliant.

  26. Hi Jinkx,

Yes, assuming members dare leave their email addies exposed to bots & spiders, that's a possibility. (unless the GAOTD isolationist police, under BubbyCo's Iron FistĀ® rule, periodically hold a global pogram to purge the mailto: code)

I'll go you one better. There exist on-line sites that scramble the mailto: command plus email addie string to make it transparent to most email harvesting bots & spiders. It's a wise step to take if you have a blog or website.

Still, I can almost feel old BubbyCo's eye burning a hole in the nape of my neck... rumor has it the first thing he does when he logs in is check to see where I've posted. :-)

  29. Here are mine :
I will once again try to reactivate my "linguistic knowledge" (*) :
Swedish for my grandchildren - the 2 sweetest Swedish girls ever -,
    English for the world,
    American slang for this forum,
yes and even German for me.
As you know "Language is the vehicle of thought" (*).
I have a disability - ( hey, who has not ? sometimes at least ? after too many eggnogs or mango juice ?...) -
which makes me nearly speechless for a while like the last 3 weeks.

Yes - there is another resolution :
I'm living together with my computer for some years, but he won't understand me - or is it vice versa ?
In any case I'll try to change this - with your help ???

    -----(*)my dictionary suggested this

Have a nice day or night

Language is the vehicle of thought

I do agree w you Totally!! Language is so very important.

Ich verstehe nicht Deutsches mehr, is all I still remember from German classes! :-(
    I should have practised more...

BTW, any Mango Juice episode u want to send my way, I'm always willing 8-)
Got used to it w that very naughty Sage!!!
He even sent me plastic covers for the keyboard to prevent any more damages!! Sheeesh...
Very important to keep on laughing! HeeHeeHee

    Guten Tag oder Nacht!
    Peace, Manu

PS: For the acronyms, this could help: www.acronymfinder.com
For slang I use this: www.urbandictionary.com
Maybe u could add them to your Firefox Search Bar? It's easier to use & fast to go to.
I have a few others, if u need it.
    Ciao
