I took you up on this one, FreewareFan, and it works like a charm. The license agreement is good for a few chuckles as well. Just make sure to un-check the Yahoo! toolbar option unless you want it. Thanks for the tip!

P.S. I tried that phone number you gave. Who's "Bambilina" and what is a "golden shower"?

    I said, "1-800" NOT "1-900" !!! You're just not right..... lol

Anyways, you're most welcome for the program alert! As for that other, let's just say that I think you've maintained a closer relationship with lead paint than is considered healthy. :-)

"The exact expiration date of this offer is not stated, just that it is only for the Holiday."

What is this Holiday that you speak of? Does it have a specific date?

Thanks for the link, those high-res DivX movies take forever to load - now I can download them to my computer.

Of course, it'll probably take all night for the download to complete, but who cares?

  5. Instead of 'Run' like they suggested I 'Saved' to my hard drive, so I will always have the installation package. Am I breaking any of their rules of 'Free for the Christmas period'? Anyway BIG *Hug* Freeware Fan :)

Dunno about what holiday, as you could read on the site, it's not stated. (shrug)

Hi Kate. I did the same thing, and got the key just fine. I do not see any restrictions to the contrary, so I think we are well within the letter of the law, as long as the program is installed forthwith. It's always good to have a backup! And thanks big time for the hug, felt good! Hugs make people healthy! :-)

  9. Thanks again FreewareFan! Took advantage of this one too......believe it or not, DivX is something new to me (I really need to get out of my cage more often). Looks like YouTube is gonna have to try and survive without me - at least for a little while ;)

Hey, hamstergirl, how are you? I think you'll like DivX, once you get used to it. Many videos use this format, and if you do any home videos or things like that, it's a good way to store your footage. Good quality, and saves space too.

Hey, I took you up on your invite. The coffee was GREAT, thanks! :-)

hey-if anyone is around, i have a question.

i've downloaded the program and was about to install-it's giving me options on what i want to install.

the options in the bundle are: codex, converter, player, media player and content uploader. the whole package will take up a big chunk of my hard drive and i am wondering if it's worth it. even after a little research, i don't quite understand what they all do.

if they are all worth it, my computer can handle it, but i don't want to waste the space on something i won't use.

also, if i install just parts of the package today, is it possible (or legal) for me to change my mind and install the rest at a later date. the program is saved to my computer.

thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

  14. Basically you have the serial number, you can install this whenever you like (you own it)

    the codec is required.
the converter is a file format converter - changes other types of video files to divx.
the uploader lets you upload divx files to their site http://stage6.divx.com which is like a youtube for divx files.
the player is... well it lets you play divx videos.
the web player lets you download and play divx videos from within a web browser.

The deal of giving away this product, is also a fairly essential tactic for divx, because as good as the product is - if nobody is producing content in their format then it really doesn't matter how much they try to sell it for. They need traffic to sites (like their "stage6") more traffic encourages more content resulting in more visibility and demand.

I'd say rather than the 20 bucks or whatever they normally charge the public for this, the real market they would have to be interested in is the professional content publishers (such as game, movie, broadcast martkets). Already there are a number of other devices (particularly DVD players) that will recognize and playback divx content - having another "youtube" in divx format (instead of flv) would make them very happy.
