    * The automated feedback program is offered to Windows Vista and Windows XP customers only.
    * The survey feedback program applies to all versions of Windows.

I'm 14, so I can't participate, but I know that Vista really isn't worth the eye candy. I ought to - my computer uses it.

  3. Answer a few questions - and MS will give/offload a Vista DVD onto you. (All that warehouse storage space with unsold boxes of Vista Ultimate piled from floor to ceiling, must be costing Microsoft a fortune... ;)

I understand there's still some space at the New Mexico landfill where Atari buried all its' "E.T." game cartridges back in '83.

  5. It would never be enough... and the US National Parks Service refused them using some "out of the way" canyon in Arizona, so they are now resorting to "a survey".

    Nah. They own the buildings.

I've been wondering, though - how can Ultimate be ultimate if Microsoft is working on Vienna? Does that mean that it's just the ultimate version of Vista? How would that relate to future service packs?

I've already written a letter of complaint to the makers of Cracker Jack because the copies of Vista Ultimate they cram into the boxes leave hardly any room for the tasty candy-coated peanuts and popcorn.

Ohhhhh, has this turned into a Vista bash thread already? ;-)

You know, you don't have to ask for Vista, you could go for the new and improved version of Office, or any of the others listed......

Geez, I almost get the feeling that Vista is not a popular OS around this place... LOL
(Loyal XP Pro User here, and will be for a Longgggggg time)

But all kidding aside, you know yourselves that with some people, curiosity gets the best of them. Some people read about Vista, and the first thing they want to do is to try it out, see what's what, see how it works for them. Soooo, this is one way that someone who is inclined to that dispensation can give Vista a go, without having to spend any hard earned dollars for it. Or pounds, liras, euros, da da da .........

So, come on, get with the program, and go make MS feel important again. They need the ego boost! :-)

  9. All I want is a stable, secure and a ops that does not look like a tarts picnic.

M$ should have released a similar system to XP Pro and Vista for the colour junkies.

Vista was already 2 years late and even the latest XP SP3 pack is causing errors.

I have a new system ready, I am waiting on the mobo to arrive today before I build it.

So AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000, gigabyte mobo, 4gb r.a.m. gamers case with plenty of breeze, should be easy for Vista, however, untill Vista hits SP2, then I will not take the bait.

US only - WHY? You already pay less than the rest of the world!!

  11. Seriously, the best advice I can give *anyone* who is wanting to give Vista "a shot" (execution style?) - image/ghost or whatever your system - make sure you can put your hands on your XP setup. Many of my "gamer friends" found the excitement and gloss from Vista wore off in a few hours or days - then they started to back-pedal, looking for the exit.

Make sure that you have a clear exit strategy... in the off chance you decide you don't like it.

Someone in the US fill out a survey for me - you can send me a copy of Office. ;)

  12. Even Office 2007 is no better than 2002.

Yes fill in some forms for me too, as I will eventually install these items when they have been ironed out and pressed to my liking.

Saves me having to pay 4 times as much as they do in the US for the software.

@BuBBy Hummmm..... I'd offer to do that for you, but I'm just not sure how you'd answer all those questions... HA!

@topofall I don't know. I don't make the rules, just pass them along...

@Lee Sounds like a GREAT system in the build. I'm envious, very much. If you want a stable OS, with eye candy, why not combine XP64 with StyleXP?

Sorry, FreewareFan, it's not that I don't appreciate all the research you do, but I couldn't stop myself. I am curious about Vista, but also very happy with my XP. Count me among the ones who like to wait until all the wrinkles are ironed out. (Which, if history has taught us anything, will coincide with the release of the next greatest OS from MS.)
Sincere thanks for all your links.
BTW, that Streets and Trips 2008 looks pretty cool.

  15. Hey guys, let me give you another possible scenario for winding up with Vista (hypothetical of course). Your computer dies a sudden and horrible death (which of course, you had no part in). Its 9:15 pm and the store closes at ten. Since you (well, the person we're making up for the sake of the story) doesn't have a credit card (which, BTW is a felony in parts of the U.S.A), he or she grabs that pile of cash thats been saved for an emergency (i.e. new computer), runs into Computers 'R Us, grabs a salesperson, and screams - GIVE ME A COMPUTER, I'VE GOT TO GET ONLINE NOW!!!!!! After Security pries your fingers off the arm of the poor salesperson and realizes that you're not really dangerous to anyone (other than yourself) AND verifies that the money did not come from a board game (its so seldom they see the Real Thing), they inform you that the store has never even heard of XP, and that they only carry Vista (one brave soul manages to whisper, well, you might be able to order a comp with XP, but its for a big business only, and will be very, verrry expensive, and you'll have to WAIT AT LEAST A WEEK!! mwahahaaaaaa...). So our friend bites the bullet (I mean, really, how bad could Vista actually be) and trots home with a shiny new computer bearing the OS they said they would never buy, and all is right with the world again 'cause they have their New Machine. Of course, its at least 2 days before they can get online, none of their precious programs work on the new machine, and yada, yada, yada (and I won't bother to tell you that two days later, our friend actually found a nice new copy of XP in the very same store, which now resides in the original computer in our story). And our friend is poorer, but much, much wiser.

So that's another possible way someone could buy Vista.

Of course, I would NEVER do something like this.......

Lee - a tarts' picnic? That's good, and I mean really good!
Freeware Fan - Thanks for the heads up, I think I'll go for a copy of Office! You know, it seems like every time I see a post by you that I wind up with something nice for my computer!

    Cheers,

    It's all good, headman!

Truth be known, I, myself, am not the least bit interested nor curious about Vista. XP does the job, and does it very very well for me. I'll just stick with that until software no longer runs on it.

Another truth be known, I will not be taking advantage of this offer at all. I posted it on the chance that someone will come along, read it, and really truly need/want what is offered. That's what makes it all worth while, for me.

If you decide to get Streets and Trips, I hope it's of use to you. Like I always say, Enjoy the Journey!!

@BuBBy Hummmm..... I'd offer to do that for you, but I'm just not sure how you'd answer all those questions... HA!

I don't care... just pick answers at random - You get the software regardless - and any garbage you "invent" is hardly going to be any worse than the people at Microsoft are paid to come up with. Just tell them what they want to hear. (If a survey response is required - how objective and independent will the survey results really be? Everyone is only participating for free software).

    @headman

I am curious about Vista, but also very happy with my XP.

I see road accidents on the news - and I am curious why seatbelts don't work all the time... But I'm very happy with my car the way it is. :P

  18. Guys, I just (sort of) checked things out and you have to participate in two surveys, one of which requires an install of their software so they can "collect information". And it takes three months.....it seems they send you periodic surveys to fill in over that amount of time (if you're busy when they send one, you can fill in the next). Oh, and they notify you (how nice) if they "detect" that your computer is NOT sending them their info.
    Think this might discourage anyone?

@ hamstergirl Hello, hello! Long time no talkie... Loved your *story*, and at least you got a nice new shiny computer out of the ordeal. I was reading your post, and saw in my minds' eye how it must have been, at that time of night, with a wild-eyed woman clutching at a salesperson! Huge grin here.... :-)

It's nice to know that you have been able to get some new software for yourself through my posts. That's exactly why I make those posts, so good on ya! Keep watching for more, because as they come along, I put 'em up. Enjoy your new computer, and don't be such a stranger, eh? ;-)

UPDATE: haha You were posting when I was posting. I didn't know about the three month wait. Seems a bit long to me, but you know how MS is, yes? Oh well, I suppose that if one has the time, it's a good deal. If one does not have the time, say la vie....... ( I know I misspelled that one, had to have!)

  20. FreewareFan - hey, I said it wasn't me!.....okay, I confess... :) Now you know why I wasn't around for a while, I was so embarrassed/discouraged that I didn't go online any more than I absolutely had to for a few weeks! My other machine (named them Alpha and Omega) may have been a fossil (try living with one printer, 2 wacoms, an external hard drive plus 3 flash drives, and 2 usb slots...aaaahhhhhh!), but it had XP Pro and I was happy (more or less). Problem is that after experiencing a nice new machine, the old one is SOOOO SLOOOOOWWWWW....I'm ruined ;-) What I would love to have is my new computer with XP on it - now that would make for a very happy little rodent!
On the bright side, now I can try out all those cool 3D screensavers....ha, ha! 3D was something else that old Alpha didn't do, so now I'm playing with (or trying to) all the free 3D programs that are out there! FreewareFan, why don't you stop by and sign my guestbook?

I charge for autographs, you know!

As you can imagine, I have to travel to lots, and lots of sites, just to keep current with what's out there, what's available, and what's in the works, yes?

But I'll tell you this, that I'll do my best to drop by and say hello, OK? OK!

    Be good... :-)

  24. Hey everyone. I just signed up. No, it didn't discourage me hamstergirl. I'm not doing anything on here to be concerned with. I have vista premium now. I want it just so I can have an actual OS install disk rather than the manufacturers disk that came with my puter (that's filled with all kinds of extra crap that I uninstall right away anyways)

We'll see how it goes I guess.

~ just call me guinnea pig from now on! LOL ;)

I finished the survey & downloaded/installed the Microsoft auto feedback software.
When do you get to choose what MS software/product to receive for free? I haven't seen that yet...

    Thanks!
