These are good games that somehow do not require matching abstract objects:

    Shoot-em-ups___________________________________________________________________________
    Absolute blue by Intermediaware
    Bullet Candy by Charlie Games
    Desperate Space by Jagged Blade
Any of the DemonStar games by Mountain King Studios
Jets 'n' Guns/Jets 'n' Guns GOLD by Rake In Grass(repeat)
Platypus by Squashy Software(published by Retro64 and Idigicon)
    Scavenger by PiEye Games
    Star Blaze by Gladiators Software(repeat)

    Platformers____________________________________________________________________________
Aquaria by Bit Blot(will be released tomorrow)
    Gish by Chronic Logic
    Gumboy Crazy Adventures by Cinemax
    Knytt by Nifflas
Wik and the Fable of Souls by Reflexive Entertainment

    Other__________________________________________________________________________________
    Alien Shooter by Sigma
    Arklight by PiEye Games
    Chromadrome by Alpha 72 Games
    Crimsonland by 10tons(published by Reflexive)
Gibbage by Dan Marshall(might not be suitable for the kiddies, though)
Heavy Weapon by PopCap Games(what they made before clones)
    Mighty Rodent by Charlie Games
    RIP by White Elephant
Soldat by Michal Marcinowski(like Gibbage, maybe a bit too violent for little kids)
    The Blob by Banana Games

Actually, there is one match-3 that I like, due to its originality:

    Match-3s_______________________________________________________________________________
    Zzed by NevoSoft

But I hate all the rest.

If you like ZZed, you'll probably like Zodiac. It's not got the cartoony feel to it, but in my opinion beats Zzed for game play. both have similar game play. There's another one in my collection, but the name escapes me at the moment and there are too many to search through (over a thousand) I have most of what you mention above and agree they are a cool bunch of games. I think Star Defender 4 should be included with the space shooters though; also you could maybe have subdivided the space shooters into their specific types, for example, third person, 360 degree shooter vertical scroller etc. I have several 1st 3rd person arcade space shooters but much prefer the fast and furious fun of the non 3D ones (personal preference of course)

You hit the platforms perfectly. The only ones I couldn't comment on are aquaria and kyntt. how can something that's not been released be a favourite unless you were on the beta test team? :)

I would add the following games that aren’t boring in my opinion:

    Arkanoids:
    Gem Ball
    Acky's XP Breakout
Action Ball Deluxe (and probably Action Ball 2 which from the game description and screenshots looks awesome (release: sometime this month)
    Aqua Ball
Arklight(this is a cross between breakout and space shooter and already mentioned above)
    Arcmania 2
Aztec Ball (similar to Shattera and Shattera 2)
    Ball 7
    Break Quest
    Clash
    Fairy Treasure
    Funkiball Adventure
    Incrediball the Seven Sapphires
Little Gods (Pong meets Arkanoid in a gothic setting - if you like gish or Gumboy Crazy Adventures then you'll like this one)
Magic Ball 3 (despite it's ease and slowness)
    Musikapa
    Nuclear Ball 2
    Reaxxion
Ricochet Infinity (or any one of it's predesessors)
Rival Ball Tournament (another Pong meets Arkanoid, with online play)
    Ultranium 5
    X-Bound Deluxe (360 Arkanoid)
    Break-In (360 arkanoid)Breakball Gold
Quadronoid (4 way, three ways, two way (pong like) and 1 way breakout)
    Super DX Ball Deluxe
    Bricks of Atlantis
    Neo Ball

    Hidden Objects Games:

Abra Acadamy and the sequel returning cast
    Little Shop of Treasures 2

    Mah-Jong:
    Luxor Mah-jong

    Word Games:
    Acadamy of Magic Word Spells
    Acropolis

    Inlay Games:
    Adventure inlay Safari
    7 Lands
    Arctic Quest 2

    Platforms:
    Barrel Mania

    Marble Games:

    Slick Ball
    Marble Worlds
    Marble Blast Gold
There's a new one that's better than any of the above, but I've only played the demo so par and can't remember it's name offhand; I'm sure it's similar to Slick Ball, lol

    Match 3 style games:

    Alchemist
    Big Kahuna Reef
    Sproink
    CirculateZen Gems
    The Treasures of Montezuma
    Sky Bubbles Deluxe
    Sparkle
    Luxor 3 and 2
    Atlantis Sky Patrol
    Magic Tea
    Glyph

    Other Shooters:
    AirStrike II Gulf Thunder
    Star Defender 4
    Platypus II
    Scavenger

    Other Arcade:

    Peggle
    Moleculous
    Steam BrigadeParadoxion
    Pacific Heros
    Mexican Motor Mafia
    Gutterball 2
    DDD Pool
    Breakout Shooting
    Bagh Chal
    Breakout Shooting

    $50 to $70 games:

    Crysis
    Battlefield 2
    Battlefield 2142
    Silent Hunter 4
    Stalker:Shadow of Chernobyl
    Unreal tournament 2007, 2004 and 2003
    Battlefield Vietnam
    Battlefield 1942
Vietcong Perple Haze and Vietcong Fist Alpha and Vietcong 2
    Men of Valor
    Medal of Honor sereis
    Call of Duty Series
    War Hammer
    Cossacks: European Wars
    American Conquest + Fight Back
    Civilization series
    Battle Stations Midway
    Armed Assault
    Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
    Conflict Global Storm
    Full Spectrum Warrior
    Conflict Vietnam
    Oblivion
    Wizardry 8

    budget games:

    Worms Blast
    Lemmings
    Hidden & Dangerous II
    Taxi Racer London 2
    3D Marble Flip
    3D Mini Golf
    Pro Pinball: Fantastic Journey
    Big Mutha Truckers 1 & 2
    Supreme Snowboarding

There are so many more, but I've only included those that you can find in my favourite games folder. This changes as time goes by; especially when I rediscover games from my main games library, or my games folder.

No. Not Platypus II. That game is evil.

    Also, I already mentioned Scavenger.

How would we get those "$50 to $70 games"? You might as well ask for BioShock.

You're right, I'd forgotten about the Worms games.

Still, I don't think that there's much of a chance getting them on this site.

You never know, there are several worms games, I only have Armageddon, blast and even a worms pinball (that came free with Blast).

I didn't realize you meant only Arcade games when you posted your original comment Lockett, otherwise I would not have included the larger games.

A couple of those I did mention may very well become free like GTA 1 & 2, Castle Wolfenstein, Hidden & Dangerous and lots of others, especially some of the earlier versions of some of the games. I bought Hidden & Dangerous just before they decided to convert it to abandonware. I saw Silent Hunter II for less than $10 the other day, which seems to be following in the same footsteps as H&D. Though I suppose the size of them would be a problem. :(

Personally I have far too many games and consequently rarely finish any of them. there's on )ly the odd ones that I keep on playing time and time again.

The makers of Hyperballoid (your favorite games house Lockett  ) have just released Hypeballoid 2 to their Beta Testers; although the original was a favorite when it first was released, I soon found it boring as the ball speed, even on the fastest setting was too slow. This latest offering that should be released sometime in the early new first quarter, is an improvement on the original, though it's lost the rainbow colors that initially drew me to it. I'm still helping with the Beta test, so can't say any more about it as I signed an agreement about disclosure.

Alawar have however just released Action Ball 2 which is definitely an improvement on the original. The only negative side is the number of levels you get. I think they are going to do the same thing as they did with Hyperballoid, which is to release add-on packs every few months, which I find really annoying and feel it eventually destroys the fun of the original game (as it did with Hyperballoid after I'd stupidly bought virtually all of the expansion packs {seperately} at nearly $15 each, which totalled aroud $150. (yoiu cxan call me stupid if you wish as I know I was, but this happened when I first started having to take morphine, which definitely clouded my judgement. Despite liking Action Ball a lot I will definitely not pander to Alawar's trick of extracting more money than the game is worth, this time. My only other excuse is that I do find it too easy to buy these games online.

I didn't mean just arcade games, I just meant games that you could find on GameTunnel(or an equivalent indie review site). There's no way that this site is going to offer Crysis.

I agree wholeheartedly about Alawar - if you buy a game from them you might as well buy a car without a warranty.

As for my selection, I have a few corrections to make. I said that The Blob should be a giveaway, when it is freeware, and I would like to add Ice Puzzle Deluxe by Static X to my match-3 list(doubling its size!).

    You're a beta tester? Neato.

Hey Lockett, you too can become a Beta tester if you wish lol. They have been advertising recently. When you say the Blob, do you mean that one level wonder produced by some Scandinavian college students? I think it's called De Blob. Or are you talking about another game?

I think at around 4 Gigs Crysis would definitely be a no no, especially with the download speeds we get via WikiFortio, even four or five years down the line. I buy all my big games when they are released most of the time and would never expect to get them free. Arcade games are another matter though as I think apart from a few gems, they are the biggest rip off I've ever seen. Despite many of the giveaway games being a little naff. I still appreciate the occasional good ones. Many of those I wouldn't keep myself but my children actually love a lot of them. I've spent thousands of dollars on Arcade games though as I find them an excellent way of distracting me from the pain I get. I've lost faith in the medical profession as it was their fault (partly) that I'm in this situation as they sent me home with 4 broken vertebra with no treatment as they thought I'd just sprained my back. They later said I'd not complained enough of pain.

Thanks for the links BuBBy, and also for adjusting the mistakes I made in my comments over the last few days. It's much appreciated.

Yes, I mean De Blob. The English translation is The Blob.

I agree with you about all of the clones. They're ruining the casual gaming industry.

As for your back problems(what an understatement!), I was wondering what was wrong with your health. The whole "not complaining enough" thing made me chuckle - you'd think that they'd notice a few lumps on your back. How'd you break it? Can you walk?

whiterabbit....I can feel for you...I was born with a congentital dislocation, of both hips....( means neither of my legs have socketes,,,and doctors are still wondering how I learned to walk....lol)....I still worked as a waitress for 25 years and doctors came from all over country to watch and test me....personal physician said I was just to mean to sit down and say when....lol....(he knew my family well)...My motto???? they got to catch me to put me in a wheel chair.........and then I want a big engine for it!!!!...I am only 4 foot 9 inches tall but I can out run any body trying to put me in a chair without a good engine!!!
Keep running.......they will never catch you!!!

You learned to walk with detached legs? Sounds like something from the Twilight Zone.

Silly....Legs are attached....Just have no sockets....They are only supported by the muscles of my back and pelvic area....And yes doctors seem to think it is pretty much twilight zone that I ever learned to walk, let alone have the stamina to work on my feet all day. But when I was born nobody told me that I was not supposed to walk...lol...and us hard headed rednecks don't listen well anyway. Medical world has progressed ..(?) Greatly in the last 55 years. I was well into my teens before they figured out what was wrong with me.....And I'd already learned to walk!!!! No sense sitting down then eah?....I do ok and have good days and bad just like everyone else....Besides...as one doctor told me when I was 20 ...it does tend to give me a nice swing!!! I waddle like a duck on my bad days, but what the hello!!! I can and do laugh at myself sometimes because although it sounds funny ...or weird to some people...I have always been like this and all said and done I'm better off than some.
I enjoy life, I have a very sarcastic witt and always see the ironic side of most things...I smile...so my face has something to do!!!
