Anyone else notice the Alawar Neoball glitch?

I've found Alawar's Neoball an amusing way to kill time during those 3 to 5 minute brainrest timeouts FreeCell used to fill. However, around Level 25, all the obstacles began unpredictably disappearing. During such disappearances, their positions still act as obstacles indicating the coordinates are still live barriers. The video display stops showing the buildings and moving artifacts except the soccer ball, the defendercopter, the background and any contact explosions. Then, everything refreshes and the game proceeds normally until the next Level. It's happened on almost every level from about 25 to 39. Anyone else notice this?

Second question. There was a long exchange on another thread about Alawar's CPU usage and temperatures. Do you use a special thermometer to take a computer's temperature or do I just apply some fresh vaseline to my kid's thermometer and stick it in a USB port? :-)

The more experienced computer users make use of KY jelly for that sort of thing. It doesn't corrode the USB contacts!

On the real side of life, use a program such as MobileMeter or any of several freely available programs to monitor your CPU temps. I just posted a list of system monitor programs a day or so ago, why not cruise through that list until you find one you like?

Thank you very much for the unexpected break my tired brain got!!!
Have a very nice day :-)

Hi, Runesage Magi,I bet you play games such as Oblivion (one of my favorite rpg's) and Might and Magic.
With respect to Neoball. Does the dissapearing buildings occur right at the beginning of a level?

There is a power up that causes everything apart from the ball and a few objects to disappear. It becomes available later in the game, which is why you may not have noticed it earlier in the game.

I bought the game when it was first released a couple of years ago and never got the problem you describe.

note down exactly when the problem starts then let me know. Watch out for a particular power up called the ghost, which looks like a red box and see if the problem happens when you pick it up. (it will, lol) Tryy avoiding that particular power up.

Go to the games folder to see what power ups there are available by checking the html help files.

Also try changing the type of background from 3D to 2D from the options menu and see if it still happens.
    I hope this helps.

Alas, whiterabbit, I play very few games. Never tried the ones you mentioned, never explored RPG much. I'm a real wizard. Neoball's features just happened to have the right design - opens fast, simple to learn, allows me to play a level, save that game and then get back to whatever work I was trying to avoid. :-) The unpredictable disappearances usually occur mid-game, often after the copter thing snags a prize. Then, after the soccer ball bounces off a couple of suddenly invisible objects, all the objects reappear. It might even be an intentional part of the programming rather than a glitch, meant to throw a player off his stride. Thanks for taking time to commment.

Speaking of feedback, FREEWAREFAN - you should have clarified which KY product to use. The new self-warming version throws the thermometer readings off, and hooo boy, all that moaning! I'm not sure a HARD drive should behave that way. Seriously, though, thanks muchly for bringing a whole raft of freeware downloads to my attention. I'd have certainly missed your links posts as I rarely have time to read all the forums I've joined over the years.

Now, to LeKanaw - what can I say? A day where I can't make someone snort coffee through their nose or wet themselves giggling is like a day without sunshine.

You are very welcome! Now, all you have to do is to find the time to investigate all those links.. :-)

Since I already have both Need to Download This and Free Download Site urls folders that are overflowing, many were familiar names. What's depressing is that with every passing day, I'm not only falling further behind with the downloading chore, I'm unable to spend as much time mastering the applications or even remembering which might be best for a particular task. The hamster wheel feeling's bad enough, but the craving to gnaw on green pellets and curl up in wood shavings is very troubling. Anyway, thanks!

Hi RunesageMagi; I do hope we see you here more often despite your lack of time. As already commented above your writing is a wonder to behold. I spend a lot of time (in between all the sleeping I do {which on average is between 14 to 17 hours a day}) in front of the monitor, either playing games or writing on forums (or more often waking up with a keyboard impression in my forehead), lol. It's great to come across someone with such a great sense of humor, thanks for the lighthearted break.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Yo, whiterabbit - glad you enjoy my warped POV. More such warped mammerings can be found in a prolix reply I posted on speech recog software yesternight.

FWIW, as a wizard, I take note of omens... so, a whiterabbit compliment coming on the heels of a jabberwocky-esque cheshire cat spoof I recently emailed to a friend is welcome coincidence indeed. I see you're retired. Sadly, the corrupt US congress is doing its level best to make sure the majority on this side of the pond never achieve that status.

SIDEBAR to whomever pointed me toward the games - BLOXORZ and Terrain. THANKEW! Both now hold esteemed positions in my Preferred Games folder. I was already a longtime Kye fanatic, and coincidentally sent kudos to the Edis Bros about their Slime series a couple months back.
