I downloaded comfort Keys and followed the activiation instructions. Every time I started it I got a message saying it was unregistered. Finally today I got a message saying it was unregistered and that I needed to buy it or it would cease working today.

What is going on here? I activated it properly. How do I stop this from shutting down today?

  2. As the giveaway has finished - there isn't much you can do. If the problems activating were posted in the forums while the giveaway was still running - I could've helped.

But everyone is limited to activating software only while the giveaway is running. It sounds like your copy of comfort keys was never activated, and now even the trial is over.

I realize this is free software, but that kind of sucks. How can you know on day one that you will have a problem on day 28?

    You answered your own question.

Every time I started it I got a message saying it was unregistered.

Check the About box or look for any messages that are asking you to still register the software is usually a good hint that the software isn't yet registered.

If it looks like you are having problems while the giveaway is still running ask in the forums for some help activating.

Mentioning it 30 days after the giveaway finished is just too late, unfortunately. The activation can only be done during the original 24 hours of the giveaway.

I can't argue with that. Maybe in hindsight I should have questioned it at the time. But here's my point: Every single day there are comments and questions about the activation process, registration messages, etc., so it's not unusual that these messages pop up. Since I had followed the activation instructions, I assumed that it was registered properly and that there would not be any problem. Now you seem to be saying that it was wrong to assume that following the instructions was sufficient.

I know, I know, you're probably thinking that I didn't follow the activation instructions. But if I remember right, that one was a simple "run activate" then "run setup." I believe I also got a message saying the activation was successful. It wasn't until the next day's startup that I got the registration message. But we know it was too late by then to do anything about it.
